    A detail that I thought I might point out:
    The puzzle near is playing with symbolizes the kira case as a whole. It only having a few pieces left, shows how L was not that far from solving the case. When we see near dumping it out, it’s a visual representation of how he has to completely start from scratch due to all the data being deleted. To add him finishing it in a quick manner symbolizes, how quickly he solves it

    • @vhaelen326
      @vhaelen326 3 місяці тому +10

      another part of that:
      the puzzle is entirely white/blank because at the core there is no information, all the informations L got on kira where from lights mistakes, there is no murder weapon, no dna, no fingerprints or hairs next to the victim, realistically speaking there is no evidence and no information, all the information available is based on lights ego, so in other words L almost solved a case that is (in theory) unsolveable similiar to a blank puzzle which IS solveable but obviously alot harder

      @gowiththeflow363 3 місяці тому +1

      @@vhaelen326I don’t think Near ever planned on trying to convict Light using evidence traditionally. At that point, if Near were to say someone was Kira 100% and had evidence like THE NOTEBOOK, Then they’d either kill him or secretly imprison him. Witnesses are evidence in a court of law anyways.

    • @vhaelen326
      @vhaelen326 3 місяці тому

      @@gowiththeflow363 i never said it represented nears plan, im just saying that the virtually blank puzzle could also represent the kira case in other means namely that there is no evidence, and no witnesses in the technical sense i mean there is Light as a witness but he isnt gonna rat himself out, and ryuk but he isnt gonna snitch either and even if he would that would spark the question if non humans CAN be witnesses? oh and also good luck finding a judge willing to prosecute this trial, i mean who has jurisdiction anyways? japan? well Light did commit the murders in japan but the victims died all over the world, also is it even against the law to write names in a note book? but im getting away from my point:
      my point wasnt "near CHOSE this puzzle because HE thought it represented the kira case" my point was "the animators chose this puzzle because it represents the kira case"

    Fun fact: Near’s “N” logo contains all the letters of his real name, Nate, in its design. The “N” is… well obviously there. There’s two “A”s, one being upside down, made by the lines connecting the vertical and diagonal lines. The “T” is the right line. The “E” is backwards and makes up the left line. I like how each letter gets progressively harder to find.

      They're both fantastic characters. Shame the plot doesn't give either much chance to shine. 12 episodes just wasn't enough. It doesn't help that Near is compared to L so heavily and often either.
      It's also annoying that Light never meets Mello and only meets Near by the very end. It makes sense to be cautious, of course, but the 1:1 interactions between L and Light were amazing. Those were dearly missed in the second half.

      2). Near isn't L we already knew that from the beginning, it's just a flaw in his job as a detective similar to how Mellow's flaw as a detective is his emotions getting to the better of him and how L's pride and ego is his. These aren't valid reasons as to why he's a "bad character" as most would say.
      3). Near winning isn't "BS" it was stated that it was thanks to Mellow's interference that the SPK was able to find out about the fake Notebook. Mellow was able to deduce that his plan would eventually lead to the arrest of Kira due to all the information he was able to get from Lidner. By indirectly working together the two successors of L were able to beat Kira in the cat and mouse game. If you wanna say it was "BS because he got lucky" then don't forget about the time Light almost got caught before he even met L due to Naomi being at the Police station the exact same time Light was.

    There's actually a funny story as to why Mello's name doesn't quite match his fiery personality.
    Due to an error in the naming process, Near and Mello had their names swapped, with Obata (the artist for the manga) only realizing their names swapped when it was too late. They decided not to go back and put the names back in the right place, so now Mello is the fiery one that's breathing down Light's neck and Near is the calm one.

    The accidental death thing might be another one of the weird quirks lost in translation, the Japanese seems to imply it is "within 6 minutes and 40 seconds." This is another case of just the creators having some roughness with their English and we are very fortunate to have the original Japanese directly on-screen.
    To be specific, the Japanese phrase is, "これから6文40秒以降、最短で不自然でない事故に遭い、死亡する。” which is something along the lines of, "Afterwards, within the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds, the most immediate accident that will result in death will occur."
    For how the Death Note functions I think this does make sense - if someone is on a busy road then an accident can occur very quickly but if it's someone, like, in a warehouse then it might take a little longer but the Note could result in an accident to cause a death. But it makes sense that if there is no reasonable way for someone to die of an accident within 6.40 then it would default to heart attack like the guy targeted by Yotsuba who was written to have an accident at a specific location.

      Glad to see comments like these. When analyzing something that has been written in multiple languages, it's always best to find the literal meaning and the actual meaning so you can fully understand. Not all languages have a 1:1 translation, you would need to use a bit more brain power to understand what they really mean. This isn't to speak badly about the homie, just commenting on languages cuz I see these patterns a lot.

    I’m pretty sure pilots have died while in flight with passengers before without the plane ever crashing due to passengers (untrained in aviation) accessing the radio in the cockpit and receiving instructions to land the plane. I think the weird rule kind of proves my thoughts on how accidental death works. It doesn't take 6 minutes, the Death note spends between 1 second and 6 minutes to determine whether the 'cause of death requested is possible and arranging it to happen. If it determines the 'cause of death is impossible (no cars around for a car accident for instance), than it just defaults to the heart attack death which takes 40 seconds. Ergo why it takes 6 minutes and 40 seconds for the death to happen. So the truck one at the start, the truck was already nearby, so only took 40 seconds to have it come over and crash into the guy. The Police Officer was driving past cars, plenty of candidates for accidental death there, so took less than 40 seconds. That seems to cover up the discrepancies pretty well.

      plus the manga also showed his thought process better. in the anime there's scenes where it seems like he just gets information from nothing, like he's a psychic or something, while in the manga it's shown what information he got from where and how he applied them to come to a conclusion. Reminds me of how Sherlock Holmes in the Arthur Conan Doyle books comes to conclusions by applying logic to information that the reader is also given, while in the BBC show Sherlock the information is hidden from the viewer until after Sherlock says his conclusion. One seems like the investigator is really smart and lets the audience also have a crack at solving the mystery (except in DN we know who's Kira from episode one) while the other seems like lazy writers making shit up to make the plot work and make the character seem way smarter than the writers are

      The anime cut out a lot. There are 108 chapters of Death Note and L died on Chapter 58. The last 12 episodes of the anime adapt nearly as many chapters as the first 25 episodes did.
      Do keep in mind though that Death Note came out as 1 long run of 37 episodes as a single season, which started after the manga ended. So they likely planned to rush the later half of the manga from the start after seeing the negative reception to that part of the story.

    I think that if a pilot's name was written in the death note while that pilot was piloting a commercial airplane, he would die, but either his copilot or the autopilot would take over. The Pilot's corpse would be put in some corner until the plane lands, and nobody else is hurt. If the plane is in some stage of the flight that requires human input that is (most of the flight is handled by the autopilot). It could even be that the pilot in question tells the copilot to take over because he's not feeling well, just to avoid endangering the passengers and other staff. Remember that suicide is viewed as plausible for all humans, so the simple act of asking for help, which cooperation is the main quality of humanity that has helped them survive and prosper as a species, shouldn't be implausible for any pilot.

    My guess on why the director of the NPA only gave out the names he did, is because those are the people already known o be working on the Kira case by the police. The director probably knew Kira had some sort of ties with the police force, so most likely Kira would know of those members, and since Kira hasn't killed them they should be safe. The other ones, on the other hand, are new or have come back, and considering how much power Kira has, the director wants to keep it all as secret as possible, and as such, only gives the names of the previously known active task force

    The Larry/Rally error is a translation thing. Since japanese pronounce L as R, they translated the name Larry into "Rari". Its an animation error, since the right translation was Larry but the animators probably mixed up the placements of L and R.

    I think matsuda calling her pretty was more of an awkward compliment. I don't think he meant as anything by it. Just trying to compliment her for growing up into a beautiful young woman without being attracted to her. As for the mafia, it's likely either that there's not enough evidence they actually are mafia, or power vacuum, that he doesn't want to cause gang wars to escalate due to everyone wanting to be the boss and thus causing a bunch of good people to die

    30:35 The reason why his deduction is impressive is because he didn't have connections to the police while near did, making it much harder to gather information than near. Near would've easily be able to find out who was at the Higuchi incident while Mello would've had a much harder time finding out what a Death note even was.

    In the pilot scenario, my guess is the pilot would feel a sudden need to use the lavatory and then suffer the heart attack there while the co-pilot has the stick. Commercial aircraft have both a pilot and a co-pilot for a reason, while especially long flights tend to have a third man in the cockpit who can spell either so they don't get too fatigued.

    Light's apathy towards Misa, as always, is one of the strongest reasons why so many fans theorize him to be gay, myself included. Everyone else in that scene is salivating seeing her, blushing like crazy, meanwhile Light's just cool and composed about it lol. He dgaf

    • @crimsonfire6932
      @crimsonfire6932 18 днів тому

      I disagree that characters like this are gay. The author simply has no interest in fleshing out this characters sexuality. It’s completely unrealistic for light to be like this. Someone in his position should’ve pounded misa out at least a few times before getting bored. Shonen MC’s are notoriously virginal not because they’re presumed gay or asexual, but because the authors are not confident about introducing any element of serious romance to their stories and the audience likely wouldn’t relate to the character as much if they were too successful with women.
      Romantic interest and actually succeeding at pursuing it would also change characters in intrinsic ways that would make it so the show has to be different.

    As far as the causing no other deaths rule, this likely is context sensitive.
    The Death Note, for a lack of better terms, has an effect on fate. So if say, a pilot's name was written where they should die mid flight, I could see the notebook basically responding based on the situation. Can the plane just crash safely? Is there a copilot or someone else who is able to take over? Does the plane have any passengers in the first place? WHERE is the plane when the pilot would normally die? If basically every single one of those questions came up something that would cause more death, the death would be delayed, however if there was a way to arrange things such that the death could happen mid air and everyone not written survives, then that pilot is going to die mid flight.
    This might sound insane, but at the end of the day, we're talking about an object that is for all intents and purposes, divine. Causality means nothing to it compared to the hard coded rules of it's function.
    Also, with regards to the accident clause and it's nonsensical timing, all those can effectively be explained.
    The episode 1 accident was specified as a traffic accident, not just an accident. This could be enough for the workings of the death note to not trigger the generic accident 6+ min rule.
    The Higuchi accident notably has the same sound effect that triggers when someone has a heart attack (something that didn't play for say, Naomi), so while it did seem to be a generic accident (rather than traffic accident), I suspect that the only accidents within that timeframe would result in other deaths. Given that the cop also died while calling for backup, it might be related to the cop having an accident when other cops start entering hot pursuit creating a situation where others would die. So the heart attack replacement happened, and he had a heart attack in the minimum time, and his corpse crashed a bike into the back of a truck in what still appeared to be an accident to an outside view.
    And yeah, the bus jacker accident was also not only a specific accident, but a highly specific one with a specified time, and also a time well past that 6+ min mark, so that rule wouldn't matter there.

    Worth noting that image boards were a thing and well known. Futaba channel, or 2 chan had been a thing for 2 years by the point Death Note released, and that worked with the internet of the time, images and all. Add in those kira fan pages you see Light look at in episode 2, and you get a fairly time accurate representation of what is going on social media wise at the time. Still kinda funny to think that Light is basically having to force himself to look at 4 chan to get criminal information though.

      If Light was having to deal with a troll nest site on a repeat basis to get his stuff going, I can see why he's irritated well before Near and Mello start giving him fits. Having to rely on scummy people to get rid of scummy people, when the site itself is absolutely dubious anyway, so Light would have to spike his double-checking frequency to make sure Kira is still credible and it would burn him out. Yikes.

  • @VelkanKiador

    I think the reason Light killed the director is more that he doesn't want a hostage negotiation where they trade the directors life for their death note. Like if he wanted to prevent a information leak he probably would have killed him much earlier, and it's only after Near asks for their notebook that Light kills the Director. So he knows there are people out there who know of the notebook, and clearly one of them wants it. So it's not unreasonable to assume Light came to the conclusion that this is the reason the director was kidnapped, and that he had to stop the notebook from falling into Mello's hands.

    Funny enough, in the manga, upon his appearance with the SPK, Near was not suspecting L to be Kira undercover. So he just went "I can't believe you had 6 whole years and did not do anything about it, you're no closer to catching Kira, you did not study the Death Note in any meaningful sense. Hell I don't even know why L let you take over his name when you are clearly so inadequate" and Light is just like "... who dafuq is this guy and why is he scolding me?" It was only during Mello's kidnapping scheme that Near starts suspecting Kira might either be in kahoot with or have infiltrated the Japanese Task Force.

It's simply that what we have regardless is somebody still worth having a crossbow out and about for to pin the dangerous threat willing to resort to delusion-bolstered extremism in his messiah complex.

      @@joshuaagee-bass4049 I will say that screaming for the investigators' deaths before going into Villains Want Mercy mode, after making no effort to make Takada's death any more comfortable at least (I'm hearing immolation is particularly painful, but even in that case, Light and Mikami caring only about evidence disposal), isn't exactly a pretty site. Of course, I'm still with Matsuda in the epilogue in practically asking why Light did all this, why he went down his dark path. In that sense, Light still is a CM, but nobody said he can't be pitied in the midst of him being tight-laced without recognizing why that's an idiotic idea.
      There is a comment by Shadao worth providing here where he's talking about Aku and Vaatu:
      "You know, it's poetic to upvote both of them since I always use Aku and Vaatu as examples of truly evil villains that theoretically a thousand times worse than many Complete Monsters, particularly the self-righteous kind. Oh, the self-righteous fanatics are more real to us... but there is something truly scary about beings who are under no self-delusion of what they do... and yet still do it because it amuse them."
      I imagine Shadao is actually thinking about Belos from Owl House with the self-righteous fanatics point, but his point works. You MIGHT convince a Lucifer analogue intent on delivering their idea of justice to see the error of their ways, and even getting them to use any gifts they truly do have to contribute to the community's welfare is still a possibility simply made easier by having them depowered and under lock and key for life, even if the percentage for the chance of that happening is still inevitably a junk value. I would not expect even that much of a chance to exist with the likes of Roger Retinz who throws about and incites sadism like no tomorrow. If they will kill loyalists purely for cruel gain with no sense of pragmatism, if they will have people needing help subjected to slavery "where they can live miserably ever after", then that's not even survival efforts or the deadly sin of Wrath. That's straight up cruelty for its own sake, and letting it go unanswered inevitably sets an objectively bad precedent.
      The likes of Light and Misa are those who still actively need to be neutralized, but not killed if it can be helped if it means they can live as permanent Boxed Crooks with Light's detail management and Misa's creativity still put to work for healthier causes even by hook or crook, breaking the Kira philosophy in the process at that. Roger Retinz is the sort who would have me happy with the moment of the order for his execution being signed for his rampant, unmitigated, and unchanging cruelty that would have him refuse to do anything helpful to the end.
