Doctor Who B&M Quest Disaster!

- Join me on my latest quest to find the recent wave of Doctor Who B&M sets, including the 1st Doctor TARDIS, Earthshock, Five Doctors and History of the Dalek sets as well as the Fourth Doctor Robot set!
I happen to work for the company . Might I suggest you make a friend or two within the store. I personally keep in contact with several of my preferred classic whovian customers and give them the heads up when new sets land. They get their figures and the scalpers leave empty handed and pissed off. Speak with management as well as the warehouse guy, most of us are nice folks wanting to help out.
Great video. I have tried looking literally EVERYWHERE for that First Doctor Set and the Dalek sets as well so I feel your pain!
It's so frustrating isn't it! The thing is I know my store got the TARDIS sets in at least twice...I just wasn't quick enough to beat the scalpers!

Lovely video, one that will resonate with any Doctor Who fan with a B&M store in town. I live in the North-West, have three stores in my town, and as so many other people noted never saw the First Doctor & Tardis. Didn't see The Five Doctors set either. History of the Daleks set were 'blink and you missed them. And as you demonstrate in your video the search was an ongoing one, across several weeks and even months - every Sunday I get in the car and check out the big b&M branch on the edge of town...
A couple of months ago I came by an old comment on the Doctor Who toys site where someone said they had seen a cache of the first Doctor/Tardis sets in my town, and just before Christmas. This tallied with the arrival of 'Earthshock' sets in another nearby branch so has the ring of truth to it. Clearly a scalper was at work, and so neither me nor my friend got the sets. But then the obvious collectors item of the 'Robot' set arrives, and my friend snatched me one the moment it was on the shelf - Success, the scalpers thwarted I though!
But then the branch on the edge of town had about eight sets on the shelf... and the same the next week. Even now, nearly two months later, they still have those eight sets, now reduced to £14.99?! *What* is going on?
The distribution and allocation of sets for B&M is baffling, I have given up trying to find sense in it. But with three branches in my town it does seem quite likely a scalper comes in and will hoover up a particular set or two, a curious reality we have noted is that each of these branches appear to get different allocations - it isn't a uniform share. So one branch might get the three-pack figure sets in surplus, another will get the speciality set (Tardis/Doctor for example), and the other store might get neither of these... It's why whenever a new wave is announced by CO I can no longer assume I will get the set I want, I have to resign myself to a "maybe I will be lucky..." sort of wishful thinking to it all. And all things considered, with three stores available to me, that is an absurd reality to have to live in.....
I’ve given up chasing these B&M sets. I’ll pop in now snd then to have a peak but it’s just ridiculous. Congratulations on your quest!
My heart sinks every time they announce these sets because of how hard they are to get...I don't blame you for giving up trying, I'm close to doing that myself!
I get so frustrated, 4 B&Ms near me, my local one got absolutely zero stock in, the others had 1 maybe 2 sets that was it, I heard from one staff member, that they sold most of it to one buyer, which is just so annoying
I remember watching one of your Instagram live streams and you mentioned that leather jacket guy. Can’t believe the shop allow that it should only be one or three sets max if you happen to be getting some for friends. Also I do remember someone saying the ninth doctor is taking all the b and m sets lol so remembering that made me laugh
I wish they'd limited how many sets one person could buy but I guess it's hard for them to put a limit on it as they'll just send their friends in to get them although it might deter them a little. I swear if I ever run into leather jacket man though we are going to have words!!
Really? I think there SHOULD be a limit and I've said as much to the Barnsley branch.
There's an ebay seller who had THIRTEEN 1st Dr TARDIS' when they came out and the Barnsley branch sold him the lot.
I had to buy mine off ebay as a result. (but NOT from him!)
The maddening thing is I was in on the Tuesday and they'd not had them, then on Saturday I found his listings and seen he'd sold LOADS.
I don't blame him for taking advantage, I blame the shop. Although if he was local, he could have bought them all over a few days.
Thank you for posting Adam. I feel your pain as up here in Yorkshire we hardly get any sets. In fact I have given up. It is good to see you get them and post the boxes and figures. You have very good friends to help on the quest. Kudos to them.
Thanks James, I feel your pain too…I wish they would distribute them fairly to stores across the country. Grateful to my friends for helping me otherwise I would of ended up with one set!
I feel your pain, my friend. I live on the South coast and we have just the one B&M (which is still a train and bus ride away), and which hardly ever has anything related to Who. Very luckily, I have a dear friend in the North who has occasionally been picking sets up for me - I don't get them all unfortunately, as I wait for him to offer (can't bring myself to ask). I do buy from Ebay, but only if the cost is around what I would pay here (factoring the bus and train fares). Otherwise, I have to go without - No 1st Doctor set, No Dalek sets... :(
I share your happiness. I managed to get my copy of the Tom Baker and K1 just before Christmas by a seller of one of these on Ebay. My set came in mint condition and was reasonably priced. I never unbox my sets because I feel they lose their value so my spare room is almost full of Doctor Who, Batman 66 , Star wars and Star trek figures all boxed. Great video my friend. Still would love the Robot set. In my local B&M today all they had was the bobble Daleks and Matt Smith and David Tennant sets. May go into the other B&Ms later in the week to try.
I understand the struggle you face my fellow Whovian. I live in Scotland and my local B&M only ever seems to have the 3 packs. There was only one time I walked in and they actually had the two pack Dalek sets, though unfortunately I could only afford to buy one at the time. The next time I went in about a week later they had all vanished. I absolutely hate it when people buy multiple of the same set so you can’t get one, it’s really frustrating for those of us who are doctor who collectors, attempting to buy the rereleases to add to their collection because they couldn’t get it the first time round. I’m also not a huge fan of the Online exclusives if I’m honest. eBay sellers ask way too much for the sets as well, though sometimes you can find one in good condition for a reasonable price. However I only Turn to ebay as a last resort. Great video happy figure hunting, I hope you found the other sets. Xx
Great video, Adam! I missed out on the 1st Doctor TARDIS set in this wave, but hopefully I'll get my hands on the 'other' 1st Doctor TARDIS that should be coming out this year! Also, love your TARDIS console display in the background at the end! 🚀
I relate to making multiple trips over months and for none to be on the shelf. My local decided not to stock any of the Robot set, until a week after I bought it on eBay.

I have also given up trying to obtain these B&M sets as i have never seen any in the stores in my area despite going in now and then
I'm lucky. My B and M isn't out of town, just a short walk away, and I go at least once a week. I have _never_ seen any Doctor Who sets whatsoever!
I really wish B&M didn't have the exclusivity on these sets, it's so frustrating how many stores don't seem to get any!
Enjoyable video mate, was really horrible to see the montage trying again and again to get the sets. That person in the leather jacket is the reason why so many people miss out. Hopefully one day you can add the 2 Dalek sets, awesome your mate has a 1st Doctor & TARDIS for you!
And to be honest mate this was only a fraction of the footage I shot....I went back time and time again! I swear if I ever see leather jacket man clearing the shelves there's gonna be trouble lol
I’ve given up trying to get these sets, where I live on Hayling Island I’m so far down south we don’t get any of them, not even when we head inland! Such a shame because they are such amazing things, really wanted a Fourth Doctor/Robot one too!
Imagine how I feel. I’m an American and I would really like some of these Doctor Who sets. Even the ones you weren’t there I would buy if they had them in North American Stores. It’s hard being an American Who fan.

No nothing in the North so far ...but I did get a Dalek set reduced to half price because of a damaged box....so half a result..
I just spend 3 hours this Friday going to 5 B&Ms, I found nothing. That is until I decided to go to my local B&M which never has them and managed to find the five doctors set and earthshock set for 5 quid each!
The only way you can your hands on these generally, is to be there on the day they put them out. All the sets I've managed to get have literally either just gone on the shelves that day or they're being physically stacked on the shelves. As an exclusive they should put them on their website so we all get a chance at buying them, and also stop selling sets directly to certain ebayers.
I’ve been hunting high and low for any of the new sets, I happened upon a solitary Robot set but absolutely no sign of the Earthshock, 5 Doctors, History of the Daleks or 1st Tardis sets. So disheartening. I really don’t want bobble head daleks or weird cartoon 10th or 11th doctor statues from 10 or so years ago…
It honestly drove me mad trying to get these sets, and too see so many of them going straight on eBay for ridiculous prices is just infuriating! Here's hoping the next wave is easier to get!
@@thegeekshandbag I only ever bought one B&M set on ebay and that’s because it cost the same as in store (plus shipping) which seemed odd but worked out fine 🤷♂️
I do hope sometime that Character does a reissue of the 1st doctor Tardis, there's barely any on Ebay and no sign in any B & M around my way, its ridiculous.
That looks like Aylesbury B & M - I have never managed to get any sets in here that I want... nor in any local B & M stores -- I've given up collecting these now as it's just impossible and frustrating.
What annoys me the most about B&M’s handling of Dr Who products is that it is clear from this video that there has been a second wave of these sets, as they were originally released last year, yet there has been no announcement from them or anything. I missed out on the Hartnell TARDIS and nearly missed out on the Gold Dalek when that was released.
The main problem is the scalpers. I truly do not mind if someone wants to buy 2 of the same item (1 to keep in box and the other for use) but to clear the shelves is completely unacceptable. I refuse to buy from them on eBay and I hope that they get stuck with those items for the rest of their lives.
Worse, still, is that B&M’s customer service is atrocious. Only today, I was shopping in my local store and an elderly lady came up to me to ask me where the tea and coffee was because she could not find a store assistant who was willing to help her...

Great video, I’ve been looking for some of these sets mainly the five doctors set and a planet of the daleks set but sadly no success but I’m happy with that robot set for now
I normally just collect the small hero collecter figurines (mostly just Cybermen). I like to look of that 5 Dr's set with the Cybermen figure in ut, and that Giant Robot looks awesome! Might keep a look out for those two myself!
In future, it’s a godsend to find a staff member and ask them to check whether or not they have those sets in the back! That’s how I got mine, even 4 months after release because my store was incredibly slow at getting them out. They’ll tell you when they have more coming in
Oh I spoke to numerous members of staff, to say they were unhelpful is an understatement….except for one woman on the till who was nice, but she still said she couldn’t check!

it is very painful to be a Doctor Who fan and no such luck in B+M everywhere, but I did get the Hartnell Tardis and Robot set.

Had to get Unearthly Child 1st Doctor &Tardis on ebay £80 a total rip off won't be bothering with buy any sets that going be 3 times I originally priced
If I were you I'd go back to B&M, as a lot of these sets are back at half price. Even the K1 robot is now selling for £14.99
I really don't like people who take more sets than they need. I still need to get the Fourth Doctor/Robot set and refuse to pay over the top on-line. Maybe B&M should limit the amount they sell to a single person.
You’re after these a bit late. But it’s fantastic that you’ve been able to find a 1st Doctor Tardis so late.
I started the quest the beginning of December 2021 when the figures were first released! Thanks though, I’m happy enough with the figures I got but would of loved those Evil Dakeks with the lifting lids!

I was so happy to get the Earthshock set coz we didn't have a 5th yet. Will hopefully get a non-dirty one some time haha.

Yep many times, most of the staff either didn't know what I was talking about or couldn't be bothered to check...none of the stores I went to were particularly helpful.
God I feel terrible! A B&M style shop called Homesavers in the back arse of nowhere in Ireland had literally ALL these sets! It had about 6 first Doctor TARDIS’, countless History of the Daleks sets and a load of earthshock ones… I feel guilty because I don’t collect them myself and I know there’s about 8 Doctor who fans in total in the whole of Ireland so I’m confident that shop hasn’t even sold any yet ye guys in the UK are struggling to find any 😂
Funny enough my friend managed to get all the sets whilst she was visiting Ireland!…maybe it’s time I popped over for a visit myself!

Pretty sure with all your travelling costs and expenses you could've just bought off Ebay...but interesting video all the same.
Oh definitely….I just refuse to get them off eBay out of principle because I don’t want to encourage all the scalpers that buy them all up to sell at silly prices rather than letting fans get them for the retail price!
@@thegeekshandbag I know what you mean - I think I paid £28 for the Jon Pertwee set, I usually do pretty good on prices but they can get very silly very quickly.
I wonder why B&M insist on producing greater numbers of the awful bobble head daleks and the big chief drs rather than the nice sets fans actually want.
They are made by Big Chief. Nothing to do with CO. B&M stock dr who items from many companies not just Character Options
I hope RTD/BBC address this disaster.
They don’t care aslong as they making money if anything b&m have asked for an electric tardis and 1st doc due to high sales of the other one

Just like me, I hunted for a long time for the Dalek sets etc, none of my nearest B&M's had anything except then ugly ass bobblehead Daleks. Pretty sick to death seeing them crap Daleks everywhere - we need the proper ones not bootlegs.
It only takes one scalper to ruin a hobby for a whole town. Some even have UA-cam channels showing their hauls and boasting. They don't see anything wrong with it.
