The Southern Fells include the highest ground in England, a horseshoe which begins with Scafell and Scafell Pike in the west and then curves around the north of Upper Eskdale to take in Great End, Esk Pike, Bowfell and Crinkle Crags.
In addition to Eskdale, Bowfell has a footing in two other well known valleys. It stands at the head of Great Langdale - its east ridge dividing the two branches of Mickleden and Oxendale - while to the north is the Langstrath branch of Borrowdale.
From all of these valleys Bowfell presents a striking profile with a conical top resting upon a wider summit plateau.
To the north-west of Bowfell the main ridge drops to the depression of Ore Gap, named after its reddish soil, rich in haematite.
Below the col on the northern side is Angle Tarn. This round waterbody occupies a corrie beneath Hanging Knotts, small trout lurking in its 50-foot (15 m) depths. Its outflow is a tributary of the Langstrath Beck, making for Stonethwaite. To the south of Ore Gap runs Yeastyrigg Gill, the main headwater of Lingcove Beck, flowing into the fastness of upper Eskdale. Beyond the Gap the ridge makes the stony three-tiered climb to the white-rocked summit of Esk Pike.
Southward of Bowfell the ridge falls steeply to Three Tarns, the col separating it from Crinkle Crags. The depression takes its name from a number of small pools, often two, but sometimes more after rain.
Busco Sike flowing to the east is the longest feeder of Oxendale Beck in Great Langdale.
Bowfell sends out two subsidiary ridges to the east. The Band is a descending rigg starting from the southern end of the summit plateau. It is this ridge which divides Oxendale from Mickleden, making straight for Stool End Farm on the valley floor. The Band has a minor top about halfway down named White Stones,[2] although most guidebooks do not consider it notable. The second ridge begins at the northern end of the summit plateau and crosses Rossett Hause, a sharp depression at the head of Rossett Gill, to make for Rossett Pike. The continuation of this ridge provides the connection to the Central Fells, forming the northern wall of Great Langdale as it crosses Martcrag Moor, bound for the Langdale Pikes.

Wonderful video…again. You are now along with Black Crag and Lake District Films are making the best films the Lake District has ever had made. Please keep going.
I agree. These 3 are my constant go-to when I need a fell fix and can't get out myself. Three very talented film-makers 😊
@@Happy_Hiker Hi, yes we are so lucky to have 3 so talented film makers. I genuinely have no favourites they are all so very different but so good.

Great video Andy, thoroughly enjoyed it, you got a great day and such a beautiful area, stuning drone footage and walk. Sunset colours were really quite stunning. My wife and I were up on the Langdale Pikes on Sunday with the snow on the tops and clouds coming in and out making the views stunning when the sun shone through, we loved it. Always appreciate you sharing your adventures and putting so much effort into your videos. Take care
Awww I missed ya Steve I was back down Langdale Sunday we walked from New Dungeon Ghyll did Harrison Stickle Pike of Stickle and Loft Crag what a strange day starting with a beautiful sunrise then rain then a blizzard ending with a beautiful afternoon...sorry me and Blillybob missed you guys 🙄

Another belter of a video, Andy and Billy and the two Daves. Absolutely beautiful sunset colours. We love the Crinkles and Bowfell although we did them separately, Bowfell from Angle Tarn as we bagged Rossett Pike on the way. We're back home to Somerset after two brilliant weeks in The Lakes - can't believe the amazing weather we've had. ATB Brian and Jill 😊
Unfortunately as I'm writing we're back to rain and gales....boooo no Fells this weekend...hopefully Tuesday

You certainly had the weather Andy ☀️🌞if a bit cold 🥶 😂Bowfell & Crinkles is a terrific walk ! Been sometime since i been there mainly because of too many people in that area 😢 great addition to the channel the 2 Daves👍 all 3 of ya are experienced walkers that's for sure😊 loved the sunset as you were descending from the fells & what a great choice of music for the finale like a spaghetti western finale with Clint Eastwood & Lee Van Cleefe 😂😂 which one are you Andy 🤔🤔🤔😂great vlog with the 3 of ya AND of course the legend that is The Rockstar 🐕🐶❤
Haha I'm pleased you picked up on that music at the end... the spaghetti western finale was what I was trying to achieve 😁
Thanks as always David...not much Mountain stuff going on at the moment with all this wind about but I've another video to come later in the week...then hopefully we'll get some better weather and back in'amang it 😁👍🏻

@@RockStar67 Been bloody horrible wind yesterday evening & now it's returned & another batch coming tomorrow Andy ffs! 😱 I recognised the music style straight away! Me n dad used to love For a few dollars more & the like but mum wasn't so keen 🤣🤣🤣
Nice one Andy. Lovely light.
Thanks as always buddy very much appreciated 😊 👍🏻

Brilliant video Andy. Love that route to the Crinkles! I subscribe to Daves O's channel too, quite a character haha. Hes lost me a few times on his ascents especially Eagle Crag 😊 but he always gets there in the end! Great drone footage as per usual just stunning scenery. Looks like you all had a super day. All The Best
Aye he's a good Lad is Dave...a good genuine lad no bravado or bullshit....great to spend the day with me Marras...i mostly walk alone with Billy but I am in fact the most sociable hermit you ever meet 🤣
Thanks for watching Tony hope your keeping well
ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Love your videos!! It’s really hard to find walking videos where the person filming doesn’t have the camera on their face the entire time! I like to look at the scenery!!! Love the balanced mix of you (and Tracey when she’s with you) and of course, the gorgeous Billy! Love how you say how dog friendly the stiles are. I have a Rottweiler cross, and it comes in handy to know about the stiles. I certainly couldn’t lift him!
If walk requests are allowed, I’d love to see more walks around Ennerdale water, especially including red pike, high stile, seat, haystacks, great gable, pillar, and steeple.
Have to slow down watching your videos now as I’m running out!!! lol!!!
Thanks Sally very much appreciated I try my best to focus on what I see rather than keeping the camera on myself...im much more interested in my surroundings and views clouds light from the sun etc... Than I am in just clocking off miles and ticking off Summits.
I've UA-cam walks further back featuring most the Hills you mentioned but yep Ennerdale's a local starting point and a favourite of mine so in't future there'll be more walks from there
Thanks for watching Sally stay safe 🙏🏻
