    I understand the Mazda3 2.2 diesel engine (2015) has a dual turbo and a lowish (for a diesel engine) compression ratio of 14:1.
    What impact will this have on a stage 1 remap?
    The spec says 210 bhp from 150 bhp and a torque increase from 380 nm to 480 nm. Does this sound about right?
    Great presentation btw, keep 'em rolling.

    Very good explanation !
    I have an Audi A3 8P '11 2.0TDI Stage 1. 138 > 185 HP, EGR&DPF OFF, INOX DOWNPIPE.
    I was thinking about a Cold air intake and bigger intercooler but after watching this video I'm not sure if I should put the Intake since u guys said on a diesel u wont gain power, what are ur thoughts on my case??
    Thanks!

      When I put a K&N Cotton panel filter in mine after a remap I noticed it would hang on to the revs more and decelerated more slowly, but didn't really feel any extra power or faster pickup. If it was on a dyno you might be making a few more ponies at the top end with a panel filter. So don't bother with an induction kit and don't expect much from a panel filter, but I think I would still do the panel filter again in a similar situation. Remember that these air boxes are the same as they are on the 170 so they already flow enough air for that higher power engine.

    Ive got as diesel peugeot 308 with an hdi engine you think i should remap it , and what about coolers and overheating problems

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  2 роки тому

      That would be a good option, depending on your engine you'll see around 25-40hp more power. If heat is a problem then an oil cooler will dramatically help - our article on our main site may help you to address any potential overheating problems, simple coolant choices can make a difference www.torquecars.com/articles/engine-cooling-methods.php The intercooler will also be a potential weakspot and you should think about replacing this.

    nice simple to understand video... i have a bmw 120d e82 with a n47 engine... i want more power.. i have the remap file for 215hp ready to do....already did dpf and egr off... swirls i have not touched... i noticed the car its smoking very little on ralenti, i figure it was on dpf removal... what would you recomend on doing? thanks

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  2 роки тому

      If the DPF is removed and the ECU is not adjusted you will often get smoke, the DPF is expected and this can cause limp home mode. Smoke in a diesel is usually caused by rich running but improving air flow can help (K&N Panel filter or similar). A good map file should put the car at the peak of power without excessive smoke but this is a fine line. Other things to check are the injectors, if they are dirty you might not be getting good fuel/air mixture.

    Great video. What do you think of the 1.6 tdi engine? is it reliable. And what is a safe remap for a 105 hp 1.6 tdi ?
    A lot of people in asia have this diesel engine in their cars and not many experts to talk about it.

    • @torquecars

      Which one, there are a few 1.6 TDi engines around VW, Honda, Kia etc... Most should map 20% more quite easily but there are a few that go much much higher. Most modern 1.6 TDi are very reliable, the DPF filter issues were a big problem around 2008-2012 for most makers, but these seem to be sorted out now.

      A simple remap on that should give you around 45hp more power and 55lbft of torque for max economy a remap of around 30hp should be in the sweet spot for power vs economy and be better than the stock setup. It has the EDC17C64 ecu on it.

    For a 1.6 Ceed, whats the maximum egt do you consider safe? What's the max safe boost the turbo can safely take? And finally, are the huge power upgrades still safe for the driveline?

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  2 роки тому +1

      Good questions, and sad to say I have no experience at all with this engine so can only give very generic support unless my contacts come up with something. So my rule of thumb is to keep the EGT to 720c on the daily commute but many engines/dpfs will tolerate spikes over 1100degrees. NB The Size of the exhaust and type of DPF fitted will all have a bearing on this.
      Expect around 140hp from a remap on the 115hp and 155hp on the 128hp keeping the car in the safe region. If I get any more specific information for you I'll be sure to pass it on.

      In the UK it is illegal to remove a DPF from any car which originally had one fitted. There's nothing stopping you from getting a better flowing DPF though. The rules MOT testers and police use are not always the same which is crazy.

      The 1.2 is a good solid engine and my recommendation would be to get it tuned, a simple eco map will give both more economy and a little more performance. You'll see gains of around 10-20hp if you are in the UK Celtic Tuning are worth chatting to.
      The video I did on the 1.6 CRDi is the closest thing I have to your engine, so might be worth a watch for a few other tips on upgrades although the specifics will vary on your 1.2. ua-cam.com/video/oVzD6qNjTuE/v-deo.html

    Hey! I have 2002 Hyundai terracan 2.5 CRDI turbocharged diesel, d4bh engine. Its actually horrible in terms of power (101 hp) I would like to boost it without affecting my fuel economy, to hopefully 150hp. Is it remapable, or do I need a new ECU? And where do I start?

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  2 роки тому +1

      There is not much around for the Terracan. I did find a few plug in chip solutions online but as I haven't tried or tested them I can't vouch for them the one I found was Racechip (UK) - they are claiming power gains between 29 and 43 hp which seems realistic to me (I would go with the 36hp option personally). Please do your due diligence first and let me know how you get on and what you find. It's a shame people aren't offering remaps on these (yet) but it will likely change.

    I live in Australia and own a 2013 Ford Territory diesel 2.7 turbo, same motor as a Landover discovery I believe, I find it has bad turbo lag, it's really annoying, is there a way to tune it to remove some of the turbo lag and give it more power? cheers

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  2 роки тому +1

      A remap if available over there will help remove this, and these engines seem to give very good results after mapping, typically with power going to around 230-240hp. A piggy back box may be easier to source. The lag on those has been designed to "protect the turbo" but there is IMO a little leeway to work in and an earlier boost will really transform this block. Ideally you should swap out the turbo for one that has a faster spool up, and there are a few hybrids around over here in the Uk.

I owned a 1.4 tsi golf and remapped that and misfiring is quite a constant problem for it so is this the same for diesel engines?

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  Рік тому +2

      No. Definately not. Don't worry about this because diesel engines don't use spark plugs or coilpacks. I must do a video on how diesel engines work, they are quite different to petrol engines.

      @@torquecars ah i see! also is an EGR delete necessary before a remap? i have my DPF removed (gutted) however EGR is still there with no blanking. if i get a stage 1 tune will the EGR cause problems

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  Рік тому

      @@joshlaw354 The EGR doesn't really cause any performance issues unless it is allowed to clog up with soot. At load (on throttle) it doesn't even open, so a remap will work just fine with it still in place. Remaps in my opinion if done right will reduce soot build up as the engine is running more efficiently, but it depends more on your driving style and fuel choices and the map profile.

      There are potentially some turbo upgrades around. Didn't the Hilux use a very similar engine series to this? I'm not actually finding much info on these though. A hybrid may be the way forward, with your turbo case and some improved internals. The Turbo seems to be the weak point on these engines.

    Fantastic video! Can I get your thoughts on the Biturbo TDI engine from VW, ill be getting a Tiguan R line soon with 240 HP and I was planning to do a remap for extra power. Would I need to upgrade anything in the engine bay to keep up with the remap since a lot of the parts they'd be using are the same as in the 150 HP models? And as for a cone shaped air intake and aftermarket exhaust, even if it doesn't give more airflow, wouldn't it give a nicer exhaust note? I'd really like to make the car have a nice deep roaring sound and not the typical diesel engine noise.

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  2 роки тому

      Great questions my friend. The Biturbo is pretty solid and has better injectors and IMO is better built than the typical 150 models. Intake and exhaust noise is not improved on these, it's just a diesel thing really. You can make it louder, but personally I find the noise of a diesel a little annoying, but the power, torque and MPG more than makes up for this. Take off the air filter for a few minutes and see what you think of the intake roar, if you like it then go for it, but I doubt you will prefer this. The engine will sound different at high RPM after a remap, I guess with everything tightened up it runs better.

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars  11 місяців тому +1

      Good question my friend, they want cars to be
      1) Reliable, and assuming most drivers will neglect the servicing and allow components to deteriorate they build in a wide margin of safety to accommodate for this wear and tear and neglect.
      2) Economical - meeting emissions regulations are often the primary aim, with little thought to performance.
      3) OK in all regions, as fuel and weather conditions vary wildly the engines are generally setup for the worst possible environment
      4) Cheap - extra R&D and higher quality parts will add to the cost of cars significantly. For example a better flowing DPF will cost twice as much as a factory OEM one but will last much longer and in most cases perform better.
