Thank you for your helpful videos! I purchased the 5000 generator and I 'm wondering what kind of regulator I need to connect into my current 500 gallon propane tank that I have for my house? I have a regulator on the large tank and then a second regulator at my house. What regulator would I need for the generator to connect off of my existing propane line? It would be great to not have to use small tanks all the time!
I would contract a gas company to come and install the required fittings for the house connection and your generator. As a plumber I did some minor stuff with propane and natural gas on my home and realized I would be better of contracting it to the gas company.
Hi Rod, Unfortuanly if I'm not there to see your equipment I can't tell you exactly what is needed. You'll have to hire a contractor to take a look at everything.
The generator comes with a two stage regulator. ( don’t need another regulator). Just make sure that you are connected to a “vapor outlet”, so, you don’t have liquid propane going through your regulator.
Just bought this inverter/generator for hurricane Helene. I’ve been running it almost two days now and I’m taking the time to learn tricks of the trade. Fantastic video. I never thought about replacing the spark plug. Great tip! I’ll be buying a few next time I’m at the parts store. And you’re spot on about counterfeit plugs and oil filters. Do not trust mail order for these items!
There is no need to replace a spark plug; Spark plugs made in China are just as good as those made in America. The collective subconscious has been an attempt to lower the quality of everything that has been done in China for many years.
I did disassemble the regulator and installed a quick connect to connect to my travel trailer. I also made a 25" hose with quick connects to be able to leave the generator in the back of my truck.
Hi, I need to edit the video and restate that you will need to search on amazon "Harbor Freight Generator" when looking for the dipstick. You can click on the link here to purchase it. tinyurl.com/bdhpsc9j
Why buy a battery tender and a jump start when all one would have to do is use the pull rope to start if and when the battery may be too low in voltage to start it. Once running, the generator will recharge the low battery. Just asking. And when it comes to the spark plug, why throw away the spark plug that come with the generator, when the generator runs fine with the plug it came with.
More importantly, the risk of freezing and thus damaging the battery is greater if it is discharged (lead acid). A 100% fully charged lead-acid battery will freeze at around minus 50-75 degrees F. A fully discharged battery can freeze at around +32 degrees F, or when water freezes. If the battery comes out easy enough it may be best to remove and at least keep in the garage where you can monitor and keep it charged from time to time.
If you recommend an immediate NGK upgrade, why not upgrade the battery to AGM, Lipo, Life, or similar? The tent looks like a good idea, but overpriced.
Thank you for the video. I'm thinking of buying a Predator generator. A lot of good advice condensed into one video. All this will ensure the generator runs when you need it most.
Nice Video, I let the gas go bad in mine and its a pain to clean out the carb. Its almost impossible to even get off the motor because of a bolt hidden behind the airbox... I got it cleaned out and running great, but noticed that the carb never stops filling with gas even in the "off/storage" setting. So either my petcock is shot or this is a weird design with the plundger on the bottom. I drained all fuel from it to be safe as I dont want gas sitting in the float. When the bowl off the gas would only stop flowing once the float was raised which obviously means it has to have fuel in it. The drain valve just flows continuously... Are you selling the extension piece? if so Im interested!!!
Hey Adam, sounds like the fuel shut off valve has failed. The rubber seal inside that valve must have broke or the ethanol content in the fuel has dissolved it. If you have warranty I would try to get the whole genset replaced. I haven't had a chance to finish up the exhaust extension, but I'll get to it this summer!
thank you for the thorough video ... does the generator have an hour meter installed from the factory ??? ... if not, would you recommend putting one on ???
Thank you for your video ! Just purchased the 5000 and your detailed information is very helpful, I know will help me keep my investment last longer… $900 is lots to me and you have help to make it the Inverter last longer. Thanks again
So my plan is using this to charge my house batteries on an automatic generator start module from magnum. Whats the deal with that switch and the power draw? Is it because of the remote start? I plan on using the remote start circuit for my AGS.
The Predator 5000 is Recalled and out of stock. If anyone bought one, check out serial number and take it back if a bad unit. Many complaints that they shut off under substantial, but within specs, loads. Until they get this one correct, the Champion 4650 w/ dual fuel and remote start is the ticket. Just as quiet. No issues. If you really want a Predator 5000 they apparently will be restocking a 'fixed' unit Dec 21st.
My thinking is how often is this generator going to be used. I believe Harbor Freight stated some $300 or more for 2 years. Odds are you you will not see any problems till after 3 years. Thus then, out of warranty. The monies saved by not purchasing said warranty can go for future parts and oil.
Did that iron pipe just thread into the exhaust port? Looking for options to extend the exhaust on my 5000. haven't removed the spark arrester yet to see what's behind it.
Hi, I mocked up a bracket welded on threaded iron pipe. The bracket bolts on to the muffler of the generator. It's all custom work, but I haven't had a chance to catch up with work to make these. Maybe towards the end of the year I'll make them.
You do a great job on these videos. One request… If you could post links on where you can buy the stuff online. For us first time, generator owners, taking off panels and showing installation would be helpful. Again, enjoy your videos, and keep up the good work
Sir, I watched entire video and I learned a lot. Thank you for making it. I am in the research mode, learning about generators. Can you explain how to attach and hookup your natural gas conversion adapter and hose? I’ve seen other videos where the man had to hookup the conversion kit to the generator’s carburetor via an adapter plate. So, your explanation sounds like there’s no carb modification?????
On the gen 2 version of this gen it has a circuit that shuts down the system so you do not drain the battery. It is nice to have that but you have to press the button on the system to wake it up to be able to start it with the remote.
Man, Thanks for the video. Bought my first generator and really needed this information. Remember the internet is full of self hating trolls that just ant someone to take their anger out on. I.G. exhibit A below. Also, great come back about watching turtles on a log. Very clean and PG.
You can do both. But a battery tender will do a better job monitoring the health of the battery more conveniently than you having to pull out the generator from storage and start it up just to only charge the battery.
I need to know what kind/size 100ft extention cords to get. I know the "dryer vent" extention cord, but what guage/wattage. I also need to buy a 100ft regular (2 and 3 prong) extention cord. Help!
That’s something you’ll have to consult with your local electron who will properly address all of your appliances and power loads you’re putting on the equipment. Questions like these can not be answered online, I’m not at your home to see your total wattage or amp requirements. Or see how the transfer switch divides the loads.
that length at a minim 8 gauge i believe is correct. hard to find but check with your "local" electrician shop. if you can bury it. use the correct wall wiring. but FOLLOW THE CODE FOR YOUR AREA. the live you save will yours.

that exhaust ex can also be turned up via electrical conduit. into a 3 or 4 in pvc stack-able stack to get the exhaust to go up and away from where the unit is parked. just need to build a base to keep the pvc up right and inches off the ground. (allows cold air in the bottom). no cap on top, unless you will be running in heavy rain. then place a T and a couple 6 in lengths on top to help keep the rain out. all this would exit a good two feet over the roof of your rv, or home. gets the exhaust up and away. will also cut back on some of the DB's, coming from the unit.
What size ngk plug did you get? I was looking for one. I just bought the 5000 a few weeks ago. It did great powering up my 30ft toy hauler for the week up in Talladega.
Have you any knowledge on the predator 8750 inverter generator? Was considering this and a natural gas connection. Whole house back up. For 220 deep well, 100 amp service, boiler heat and a fridge and free standing freezer. Planned on an interlock. Do you plan on doing a video on that particular generator? Thanks
We do have the Champion 8750 and Wen 8750 which are the same generators. This is a good generator but you mentioned 100amp service. That generator will not be enough. You'll need something bigger such as the Duromax 13000
Just bought that inverter yesterday. CAN take an aftermarket kit for NG and propane hook up. Power our entire home (200amp service) backfeeding through a 40 amp welder circuit using the 30 amp 240v outlet. Any lights or light electronics, no problem. You can add any ONE major appliance at the same time. Load management is key if not using a generator switching system, but you get use of everything.
I don't understand why anyone would run this dual fuel generator on gasoline instead of propane. Propane can be stored indefinitely. You also have a choice of tank size for propane from really small to very very large. With gasoline, your best option is a 5 gallon can that you have to dump into the fuel tank every time the generator needs fuel versus just swapping hoses with propane. Added bonus, the propane burns cleaner than gasoline so there's less wear and tear on the engine.
Good question, I've been getting a lot of push back from the other crowds about propane and I believe its simply due to poor product experiences with propane with DIY kits and they assume all propone related items are an issue as well. Currently I'm the only one trying to build a "run's right out of the box" tri-fuel kit that is drill free, cut free, and modification free.
Propane is a dry fuel, it’s harder on the rungs and cylinder wall, some propane has paraffin for lubricant but wax build up in carb etc… and requires maintenance to clean it out
Hi, I apologize for the incorrect info I've stated. Please return the old dip stick and purchase the one here in this link. I've bought this part and verified that it fits. ----->www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07643J11X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You don't want it longer. Or else it will put too much stress on the welded flange when you lay the hose down. These are welded on to the thin walls of the muffler. I use it to exhaust the fumes the other way.
Hi Joyce, I only made one as a prototype and sold it to one other person. Maybe later in the year when I have some time I'll get working on these and offer them for sale.
I have dual fuel generators and exclusively use propane. I figure the oil drain and oil fill are EPA approved so I drain and fill oil in the driveway and any failures in the EPA drain and fill are returned to the EPA.
Sorry I haven't had the time to experiment further. But you can follow this link to do the conversion but do remember its only good to power well pumps and is only single phase 240v. ua-cam.com/video/6HEgTc7q2ps/v-deo.html
11:50 More importantly, if you arrive at a gas station while there is a tanker off-loading fuel, LEAVE and do not get any gas there. That tanker offload is churning up all the fuel, water and sediment sitting at the bottom of the underground tank and there is then an increased possibility that fuel could then be pumped into your vehicle. Just leave and come back much later or use another gas station.
I heard about that before, its more common in states that are at sea level where the water table is high. If the gas station did not up keep their equipment, water can seep into the underground fuel tanks.
@@GrenergyTriFuel The fuel pick up is away from the bottom but if they don’t “stick” the tanks with the paste, they won’t know how much water is at the bottom, if it’s below acceptable limits, but if there’s any appreciable amount it can be churned up by the tanker making a fuel drop, which can then be taken up by the pump.
Foolish question: would one leave the add-on aluminum drain/fill attachments installed always or only when needed? Do the OEM caps fit onto the new parts? What engines and generators doestge Pred use? Are those components something unique to Harbor Freight?
I don't understand what is "add-on aluminum drain/fill attachments" and what "OEM caps" are you referring to? If your unsure of the names of these parts, I can't really help answer those questions. The engines in all Chinese made generators are China copy Honda engines and it is not unique to Harbor Freight. Same engine used in Champion, Westinghouse, Duromax, Generac, Wen, etc.. they all come from the same two factories in China. Only Honda and Yamaha makes their own engine.
By end of year I was told by my local HF store manager prices will increase an additional 100 or 200 dollars. Coupon or not just buy it now before they possibly raise prices again during the holidays.
Can you show how to change a spark plug and oil on this Predator 5000w inverter generator ? As a nurse I know how to help a cardiac patient but clueless about mechanical stuff. I followed your advice on getting the other items. Thanks 😊
Hello, thank you for watching our videos. Unfortuanly I may not have time to do videos as you've requested but the oil change process and the spark plug removal is roughly the same as other generator make and models. If anything you can bake cookies and have your neighbor help you out :)
I would Love to buy the generator exhaust extension from you I have a race trailer that had a onan in it that blew up and I’m replacing it with a 5000 and would use that to run it out the floor of the trailer like the onan was if need be
Thanks for watching, glad you liked the video unlike one other guy who just commented on here complaining about this video I made free for everyone to watch. I’m not good at videos but I’m good at sharing what I know. Also I would take out the generator out of the box and start breaking it in. I would do 100hrs minimum, you want to put the generator through its paces and test for failure. That way you can return it for warranty rather than find out it was a faulty when you really need it.
I just started my own channel....I don't worry about negative comments.. I will get it out of the box next week and make my own video too....Have a great weekend...keep making then and dont worry about the negative people....they are everywhere...@@GrenergyTriFuel

I heard this model was "flying off the shelves" :/ Hopefully it's just the right time for things to be on sale and there's nothing nefarious goin on. You still confident with your 5000? Thanks man
So far I sold a ton of the tri-fuel kits for this generator and I haven't heard much about these being super bad bad. Just use your warranty and you can't treat these things like a Honda. They are cheap Chinese generators and you can't expect much out of them other than saving money. If you want peace of mind, you'll need to go with Honda or Yamaha. But for the price you can't complain, it'll pay for itself in a year or two during emergencies. Cheaper than staying in at a hotel when you don't have power at the house for 1-2 weeks.
@@GrenergyTriFuel I get it, thanks. In the motored bicycle world several years ago. china was knocking off one of honda's 50cc four strokes. i bought the honda motor for my bike :)

just need to build a base to keep the pvc up right and inches off the ground.
Thanks for your input.
Great video! The water fuel filter I used for boats for fuel tank corrosion issues in the large tanks.
Thanks for watching!
What is the number on the NGK plug? Stopping on my way home from work and i don't have the other plug with me.

I appreciate your video very much and your time to care for others
It's my pleasure, thank you for your support.

Love your intro! Thanks for the advice. ❤
Any time!
Thank you for this video. I got what I wanted out of it. Bravo.
Glad it was helpful for you.
Wonderin if i'd get a genuine NGK if i bought them from autozone or o'reillys?
Hi, yes they are authorized dealers of NGK.
Are the Natural Gas Equipment for the Predator 5000 for sale?
Yes it is avaible for sale. please head to grenergy-us.com to purchase from our website.
Great video dude 👍 thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your time making video bud
Glad you've enjoyed it! Thanks for your support!

Burns a lot faster than reg gas.
Gas burns longer. I get 20 hours running my 5000
Options
Propane is a dry fuel, it’s harder on the rungs and cylinder wall, some propane has paraffin for lubricant but wax build up in carb etc… and requires maintenance to clean it out
Thanks a lot for all information about the generator , thank you so much for you time bro god bless you.
My pleasure, and thank you.
I bought the dip stick and oil tube but neither one fit. Love the oil bowl extractor. Also got the fuel filter.
Hi, I apologize for the incorrect info I've stated. Please return the old dip stick and purchase the one here in this link. I've bought this part and verified that it fits. ----->www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07643J11X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Appreciate the knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome.
Awesome video, well done. Subscribed because of this video.
Awesome, thank you!
29:05, I’m interested in the exhaust extension
Will be in the works later towards the end of the year 👍
On your exhaust extender. Is there any benefit in making it even longer?
You don't want it longer. Or else it will put too much stress on the welded flange when you lay the hose down. These are welded on to the thin walls of the muffler. I use it to exhaust the fumes the other way.
@@GrenergyTriFuel yep, makes perfect sense now. thanks!
Your welcome
I purchased wire with SA plug on one end and lugs at the other and connected to the battery. No need to connect / disconnect.
Nice 👍
How do you check the fuel level?
There is a fuel gauge on the top
@@jonathonchisum6079 Thx :)
Yes, it has a fuel gauge
Am interested in extension you made for exhaust. Any information about how you created it or if it is available now. Is it welded in?
We purchased 8 ft ext for exhaust is there a trick to removing cover for exhaust side after removing 8 screws
Hi Joyce, I only made one as a prototype and sold it to one other person. Maybe later in the year when I have some time I'll get working on these and offer them for sale.
Thank you
Welcome
anyone else notice the 5000 not listed on Harbor Freight site any more?
There has been a recall, I was told they will be back in early November.
I just noticed the same thing. Didn’t know if it was simply out of stock or other reasons. Where did you hear of the recall? What was it for?
Our store just received a load of them...I drove 45 min to get one.😊
I just purchased my Predator 5000 in February 2024.
Not true! I bought 2 months ago
I have dual fuel generators and exclusively use propane. I figure the oil drain and oil fill are EPA approved so I drain and fill oil in the driveway and any failures in the EPA drain and fill are returned to the EPA.
Thanks for your input.
Did you do video on 220 volt plug yet ?
Sorry I haven't had the time to experiment further. But you can follow this link to do the conversion but do remember its only good to power well pumps and is only single phase 240v. ua-cam.com/video/6HEgTc7q2ps/v-deo.html
@@GrenergyTriFuel I am not aware of this Predator 5000 having 240 volt supply. I do not see it on my Predator 5000.
Seafoam also has fuel stabilizer in it
yes.
Than you for your time to make These videos!!!
Appreciate the support! 😎👍👍👍
Price just increased to 1099. Was going to buy but 10% increase I just left the store. Hoping for a sale or coupon.
By end of year I was told by my local HF store manager prices will increase an additional 100 or 200 dollars. Coupon or not just buy it now before they possibly raise prices again during the holidays.
Thanks
Just got one for 870 with coupon
@boneyard8705 wow that's good.
I also just purchased 1 for $880 with a 20% off coupon, of course, I also purchased the 2 year warranty for another $300
Can you show how to change a spark plug and oil on this Predator 5000w inverter generator ? As a nurse I know how to help a cardiac patient but clueless about mechanical stuff. I followed your advice on getting the other items. Thanks 😊
Hello, thank you for watching our videos. Unfortuanly I may not have time to do videos as you've requested but the oil change process and the spark plug removal is roughly the same as other generator make and models. If anything you can bake cookies and have your neighbor help you out :)
I would
Love to buy the generator exhaust extension from you I have a race trailer that had a onan in it that blew up and I’m replacing it with a 5000 and would use that to run it out the floor of the trailer like the onan was if need be
Unfortunately its been super busy at the shop and I haven't had the time to make any yet. Please check back in a few months.
Where can I get Nr. 4?
what is Nr. 4?
Good stuff here.....new subscriber....I just bought one of these machines but wont open it up for a while....
Thanks for your support. 👍
1:30 tell 'em dude -- keep up the hard work
People leave negative comments but don’t realize that any comment or dislikes is considered increased user interaction, which boosts my video search ranking. Ultimately bringing in more views and more customers. They can cry and complain all they want, in the end I always win.
Thank you for the info.
Our pleasure!
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I for one love it that you stick to business - i get you. If i need to be entertained, i know what to do :)
I'm right on the verge of buying this particular generator, so ima needing all this information. Thank you very much!
This one, oct. 2024 is on sale for $850. That sorta gives my pause.
I just found this channel.. Thanks for the info.. Ignore the haters..
Thank you for your support. I hope to be uploading more videos next month.
Love the detail...
Glad it helped!
Appreciate the information.
Glad it was helpful.
Love the video. Just for my curiosity, why do you have so many generators? i thought I was doing good with 6 until I seen your garage. Great job, and pay any attention to the haters. They have nothing better to do.
Thanks for your support. I'm a small business owner and the generators are all for development for my tri-fuel kits. I've been getting a ton of requests for different makes and models so I had to buy what is being used in the market.
Good Stuff.
Thank U.
