    As long as greedy importers are selling these huge fish and ignorant hobbyists are buying them we will need rescues. I am glad places like OFR exist. People need to stop buying Pacus and all of the giant catfish and gars but as long as importers (even predatory fins) continue to offer them for sale fools will buy them and perpetuate the problem. I don't see a solution unfortunately.

      You could say the same about large/dangerous dog breeds that need good training. Or worse, exotic animals that are seriously dangerous (e.g., big cats, poisonous snakes). There needs to be some attempt at real legislation but there's often no will to get it done. Because naive animal enthusiasts will want these interesting animals without recognizing or worrying about their inability to care for them properly. If this is what happens when the pros get these animals in a 50,000+ gallon pool, imagine the damage they'd do in a smaller tank!

    Any chance of a 24hour underwater stream in the monster pond, wouldnt be too hard to implement and have a few mods. I would love to have it on in the background while I work. The bigger aquariums are boring - this would be more entertaining.

    I don’t keep fish but I enjoy watching a multitude of monster fish keepers’ cannels and I still haven’t seen anyone else keep such a massive monster pool pond so well and so naturalistic looking outside of OFR. Those goliaths obviously require a habitat on a grand scale and these folks are doin’ it proper. I love when Josh showcases this one!!

    Get those Paroon sharks in a separate tank that you have by themselves. You have plenty of big tanks. Don’t risk your other big monster fish that live in harmony to accommodate 1-2 other fish. That’s the way I see it. I’m not a pro at all. Just hate seeing beautiful monster fish get put into jeopardy because of 2 bad fish.

    • @FinnishLapphund
      @FinnishLapphund Рік тому +4

      I know they have many big tanks, but as far as I know, none of them are empty (except maybe Lavaca's tank, but I don't think you'd fit even one of them into her tank). So first they'd have to move all the fish in one tank to other tanks, and hypothetically, those fishes might not get along with their new tank mates, so then they'll need to be moved again, and you can't overcrowd the other tanks, so even OFR's options aren't unlimited.

      They have the 2000 just outside the building and under the tarp. But it needs some repairs and where would you put it right now even if it was repaired and back up and running? That being said, those paroons are likely already too big for a 2000g anyway.

    Target feeding should work! It's the method big aquariums use to keep their hammerheads, tiger, bull and sand sharks from attacking one another and also to stop them munching on the other inhabitants of their exhibits.
    Also i believe i read somewhere, paroon sharks are seasonal eaters. In the drier seasons, the rivers where they live run lower and the fish populations are more concentrated. Thats when the parooons gorge themselves and fatten up When the monsoons arrive and the rivers flood,the parooons travel upstream to spawn ( like salmon). So I'd definitely keep them over fed for the next 2-3 months. Sad to see that beautiful catfish all chewd up 😫

We saw that the aggressor fish can jump over a seine net across the pool too easily so try the acrylic bed with a net weighted down over top as a gimp ward? U could even drop a circulation pump in it if dead flow zones are a concern.

    Mekong cats are more herbivores than predatory. That's probably their saving grace because if they were that mean they would be persecuted for it.

    Sorry to see your damaged fish. Personally, I'd try an re-home those Paroons. It's a bit like a dog that bites. Once you see it's capable of aggression like that, you can never fully trust that it won't do the same or possibly worse again. Good luck and love your videos.

    I'd say that it's time for the paroon sharks to go bye bye. Set them up in a smaller tank. Y'all got some really big tanks there. There's the 2 out under that tarp that you usually quarantine koi in. Use one for the sharks. That still leaves one for quarantine of the koi. If you don't take them out, then you will loose every fish in the pool pond. By leaving them in there your not doing right by the other fish. And no, the sharks won't have as much room as they have in the pond, but they would have adequate room in one of those tub ponds. And that's all they need to survive. But the better point is that all of the other fish will get to survive to. Your already feeding them enough for them to be doing this out of hunger. If they were doing it from hunger, then those red tails would have huge chunks of meat missing. The sharks are doing this because they're mean. And no amount of food is going to help with meanness. So for the sake of the other fish, take them out. I don't usually question anything that you guys do. But this is the one time that I am questioning you. Take them out.

      @FinnishLapphund Рік тому

      But even though the tubs are under a tarp, they're still outdoors, so I presume the tub would need a big amount of isolation material added to it, plus something heating the water, for the Paroon sharks to maybe survive in one of those tubs during the Winter. It sounds like a very costly option to me.

    • @cathyhendrix7552

      @@FinnishLapphund Also, they could move the tubs inside. Somewhere. Or wrap it with insulation and put in a couple of heaters. That wouldn't be all that expensive.

      @@cathyhendrix7552But we don't even know yet, if feeding the Paroon sharks more will stop the problem behaviour, or not. Admittedly, I don't know anything about the cost of electricity in Ohio, but judging by the rampant cost of electricity in my country currently (I've e.g. bought myself fleece gloves to wear indoors), I'd say it's fully possible that trying to keep Paroon sharks alive in an outdoor tub could end up costing much more than an arm and a leg.
      And considering the size of those outdoor tubs, I don't get where they'd be able to squeeze one of them in, indoors. Maybe they could remove the seating area near the pond, but then guests have nowhere to sit down indoors, and guests may give donations, which helps the rescue...

    • @cathyhendrix7552
      @cathyhendrix7552 Рік тому

      @@FinnishLapphund IDK. But if those sharks had been biting the cats because of hunger, then there would, at the very least, be a couple of big, meaty chunks missing. That's just common sense. This seems more like a power play or like a bully picking on the scrawny kid on the playground. BUT I don't know everything about fish. So all I did was give my opinion. I really do have to bow to Josh and Big Rich. They do know way more than me.

    I appreciate you guys emphasize that these monster fish should not really be in the hobby. sometimes online i see people keep multiple alligator gar in a glass aquarium, but it's almost impossible to keep them full size.
    anyway could part of the issue with the sharks be territorty? even with a whole pool, when fish are so large they might get mad when they see each other. they already have a bunch of driftwood so idk if more hides would help or if you just have to cope. good luck though lol
