Medusa, current king of the HM-2 hill. Hard to beat the features, quality components, effects loop and form factor. Great video and list of ten. I may have swapped the Humongous Fuzz for the Swollen Pickle. Merry Christmas, Dom!🌲☮
Same shared number #1 as you but with a twist-The medusa is my actual in-use top pedal, but for myth busting purposes its co-winner is the HM2 cult stockhom. The fact check we were all waiting for :)
My favorite right now is the Lichtlaerm Medusa because it has the 4 cable method (internally) gate that is built in, so its a fast and very clean gate. It has the cut which allows you to tighten it up for chuggy tight palm mutes, which is not something the chainsaw tone is really known for. Also you can use the blend knob to dial in some clean signal to tighten it up even more, or you can add another distortion pedal into the built in loop and blend the completely different sounding gain stacks together to come up with something unique. Right now I am using the Gehenna for that, but want to experiment with other pedals as well. Maybe a VH140C clone or something.
@sinistrousdiabolus I have used the snk vhd, fleshrot 2, and the misanthrope. All great pedals but not quite what I need. I am considering trying the Effigy of The Distortion, but now you have me curious about the TC Fangs. That thing is cheap so I might as well test it out, can you get the 90s USA scooped deathmetal tone from it?
@@cizmar1972 Absolutely nails that tone to my ears, even better when paired with something like the Ugritone sdm IR's. It also has a really good hi-gain rat type sound with the tone switch in top position.
Maybe I missed you mention because I was busy doing stuff while listening to this video but I'm surprised you haven't reviewed the VM/LWA Trendkiller or that it wasn't included on the list. I grabbed one and it arrived the other day and I haven't had a chance to rip it yet, I was hoping to live vicariously through your demo sounds haha.
Dude, you HAVE TO get the TRENDKILLER that Joe made. Blows the LHW/LHP out of the water. It is fucking GNARLY! Also the JUDAS by ACID RAIN PEDALWORKS is fucking brutal as well.
here is mine: 5- Dead Stag (perfect for doom and other purposes) 4- Pepper's Pedals HmTmc 3- Lichtlaerm Medusa 2- Left Hand Wrath V3 Deluxe (i find it slightly better than V3) 1- ThisHeavyEarth Crustifixion (perfect chainsaw and highly tweakable)
It’s strange why Klirrton Grindstein, who would kick the butts of many of the winners on this list, was not included in the top. Without a doubt, the most accurate clone is the silent snickers Decibelics Angry Swede V2
@@DomeNightbearer No. They have a new model out. It's made with bass in mind so the frequency range is shifted a bit. But the controls have a little bit extra to play with.
Mit dem Medusa hab ich direkt als Platz 1 gerechnet. Der Rest klingt recht interessant und muss ich auf jeden Fall auschecken. Wieder mal ein richtig gutes Video!
@@DomeNightbearer my bad lol, i didnt know the rat you used for chsinsaw files was modded lol, im looking for a chainsaw pedal but im limited to what my local guitar store can get their hands on
Thank you! There are a lot of good pedals on the market so it's not easy to make a top 10. Have a bunch of HM clones myself and some originals. We living in a golden age when it comes to gear; and for that it becomes more difficult what to use in a recording setup (stepped away from bandsetup in 2012 - disappointed when it came to reliability on co-bandmembers). I like your top ten - makes my GAS bigger than it already was 😄 Anyway: good days for you Sir and the best wishes for 2024! Cheers, B. The Eyemaster is an incredible pedal; with a post eq you can't go wrong. One of my favs
I actually think it's the easiest time to live in to come up with a decent recording setup. However option paralysis is real! I f.e. have my Steinberg interface for ages and from time to time I consider buying a new one... but on the other hand it still sounds good and I get the tone I want with it... Same with all the gear. I do have TONS of it, but that's just because of my YT-channel and well... I can. I could easily do everything I do right now with just of the fraction of the stuff I have. Happy holidays, bro!

Yeah, I was thinking about including the Humongous Fuzz. Might be on the 2024 list :D

Still haven't built mine yet

I couldnt sell my left hand wrath fast enough, unbearably noisy and crooked knobs. This heavy earth crustifixion is my number 1.

I use a tc fangs with mine, which gets that SS tone for maximum bang for buck.

Just got it too. HOLY SHIT! Nasty sounds. Very versatile.

I was going to ask when we would see a demo. Im really keen to see how the Q-peak control works.
Trendkiller is coming!
Yeah, I’m convinced to get a Medusa now 😂
You should at least watch a demo, bro 😅
@@DomeNightbearer I already watched yours, bro ;)
Then by all means... buy one :D

yeah, closer to home for over 3 years now!

That's a taste thing. I don't like the pedal this much, at least for chainsaw tones. The plugin however is awesome for bass.
Hoping in 2024 Dom you can try the Boss XT2 and DF2 chainsaws!
Well, might be time that I save up some money for those units!
God City Instruments Jugendtief is also insanely good sounding even if it's meant for bass.
You mean Jungendstil? Not my cup of tea tbh, but I see why people like it. I prefer the Dungeon Master for such sounds 😉

Du Fuchs!
Danke 😊
You use the Medusa with preamp pedal or amp/plugin for studio use?
Can you do a chainsaw file video on the joyo splinter? Thx!
looks like a rat clone with 2 more tweaking options. Not sure if this will work as a chainsaw
@@DomeNightbearer i mean if the og rat can chainsaw, my bet is that the splinter could do it too considering it is a rat clone
The rat can't really chainsaw unless you out an eq after it. But witht he right eq every drive pedal can chainsaw 😅
