The Binding of Isaac (Rebirth) OST - Heverlasting Hymn [Cathedral]

THERE IS BIG CONFUSION. Saxon people are of no use when dealing with latin in most of the cases, so I traveled from Minnesota to Vatican City, and asked a cardinal to translate the lyrics of this song for the sake of the internet:
Dei, quod reliquum est, nolite metuere. De ossa tua liberabit, expectans.
=
You shall not fear what remains of God. Awaiting, he will free you from your bones.
Now you can spaculate on the hidden meaning but at least the translation has been solved once and for all. Dei is genivive, nolite is imperative plural, quod reliquum est refers to dei: what remains of god, you shall not fear. Awaiting (expectans), he will free you (liberabit) from your bones (de ossa tue).
HOWEVER,
the cardinal told me that there is another translation as correct as the first one:
Dei, quod reliquum est, nolite metuere. De ossa tua liberabit, expectans.
=
Oh gods, do not be afraid of what remains. The one who waits, will free you from your bones.
"Dei" can be genitive singular or nominative/vocative plural. In this case is nominative plural, because the verb: nolite is plural and refers to dei. So dei=gods, and is the subject of the first sentence. Expectans is the subject of the second phrase.
The old cardinal explained to me that in latin, most depends from context. Actually, I think that the first translation is the one that make more sense and the cardinal (Monsignor Novarese) agreed with me. I spent a lot of moneay to finally solve the riddle, please, treasure this truth.
tyvm. seriously, you've done a great job for me to know the truth. again, i'm very grateful to you
just so you know, your comment is at the very top of the comment section, the second one to be exact. So even though doesn't have much likes - people who go onto this video still see it. it's just that there aren't many people that do after all these years it has been uploaded
I come here for these kind of things. Great work!

the second interpretation makes me consider isaac is the one they're referring to. up to that point isaac has killed everything in his path, and is even the boss on this floor
The Strange thing about it: although Heaven is supposed to make you feel safe, this makes me feel like I'm approaching my imminent Doom.
Patrick Spragoo In Isaac’s mind, he is a demon. So for him, he is invading Heaven.

This is useful for the Five Nights at Mom's achievement, having a run thst ends one level earlier makes it easier to get it to count as a victory

The lyrics are in Latin: "Dei, quod reliquum est, nolite metuere, et ossa tua liberabit, exspectans".
One of the most widely accepted translations is: "You, who awaits God, do not fear, what is left, and he will give you strength."
From the wiki
+Anthorio I don't agree with this translation, actually. The "et ossa tua liberabit" can't be translated as "and he will give you strengh" without (questionnable) projection.
+Spargus Then you don't agree with the Wiki ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't know latin, then I look for the lyrics int he Wiki.
Well it's not a big deal to disagree with a wiki, since pretty much anyone could fill it with anything. ;)
The fact this hypothetic translation haven't met a divergent one doesn't make it true per se.
As I said, I think this wiki translation is a projection and not a litteral one. This is just my opinion after all, not a hateful criticism about your commentary bro
This is a thread so I don't see why I'd go elsewhere to discuss its subject. You're the nonsensical one here. As we say: the most embarassed goes so just deal with it.
If you're not happy, just delete your reply. I bet you still can do this on a smartphone, douche
Where was I.. yes: "de ossa tua liberabit" would be translated roughly as "he will free you from your bones" but this translation could mean opposite things such as :
1. he (God) will accept you as worthy of resting in Heaven so he will free you from your physical body ( = let you die) and forget the pain you endured.
2. he will make your mind stong enough to surpass the pain and sorrow your journey induced (we reach here the most accepted translation, which I kinda disagree with)
3. by going to the Cathedral, Isaac is bent to kill its residents and opposes to God himself (on other hand, he opposes Satan by defying him in his own land: Hell) and these lyrics could have a very ironic meaning as "we're going to free you from your body" => "we're going to kill you, don't you worry about it".
Whatever the actual meaning is, maybe we could find even more projections.
Despite floor orders, due to the fact that the chest or delirium comes after this. I think the Cathedral symbolizes Isaac’s final struggle with himself mentally. Isaac, craves his innocence back and he basically battles a perfect depiction of himself of what he once wanted to be so desperately (sinless) hence why he has angelic wings in the fight. Beating him (yourself) symbolizes self acceptance I think.
oh that makes a lot of sense actually
Wow that's a really good explanation.
This comment underrated af
id also like to add on that note i think the chest is his survival instinct kicking in, and beating ??? signifies accepting death
I think there was an explanation given by the writer of the story that in simple terms, Isaac is trying to unbirth himself, going back to where it all started. He's getting over himself so to speak. On the next floor you face of against "???" which essentially is a metaphorical character for Isaac's will to live/die. I think that ending was summed up in Isaac wanting to live if you defeat ???. This game posses no good ending how ever.

Muczkapl, I used sad bombs in the only safe corner when Isaac used his light attack
This song is what hooked me on Isaac.
Just dicking around one day on my iPhone, beating boss after boss with this ridiculous bomber build I had stumbled upon... Expecting to make another easy sweep past the Heart, when a different ending appeared. Next to the chest, was a beautiful beam of light. Thinking it might be a different ending, I ventured into the light -
And came across an entirely unknown chapter of the Binding of Isaac.
Good god that music... I had no clue what I had just come across... But I knew it wasn’t going to be good.

I really like it , it's one of the most fitting tracks in the game (considering the map it's been placed in )
This song makes me feel as if I'm coming to accept my fate, no matter if I actually did anything worth being sinful or divine.
And the fact you confront _yourself_ as the boss proves that you have conflictions with wanting to die. But beating that side of you is what helps you accept your fate and that God will be waiting there for you.

Dei, qoud reliuum est, norite metuere, et ossa tua liberabit, expectans...
A person with account i respect you
A somewhat rudimentary traduction would be: "what is left of god ores fear, as your bones still wait to be freed."
@@irvs5922 Don't fear God, who has been abandoned, and He shall set your bones free. He is waiting.
So im gonna translate the lyrics for you:
"Dei, quod reliquum est, nolite metuere, et ossa tua liberabit, exspectans!"
"Dei" is either Nom. Pl. (= the gods) or Gen. Sg (=of god)
"Dei" is genus m and "quod" is genus n Sg., that means "quod" can only refer to "nolite".
Because "nolite" is 2. Sg. , "quod reliquum est" can only translate to "You, who is left" or "The one, whose left"
"nolite metuere dei" literally means "you dont want to fear the gods" but you can also translate it "shall not fear god" or "do not fear god"
"et ossa tua liberabit" literally means "and he will free your bones" but this doesnt sound very well so im translating it "and he will strengthen your bones"
"exspectans!" just means "expect!"
So if we put the parts together we get the final translation:
You, who is left, shall not fear god, and he will strengthen your bones, expect!
Don't fear God, who has been abandoned, and He shall set your bones free. He is waiting.
You, who is left, shall not fear God, he will free you of your bones (meaning freeing you of your body, your mortal coil), expect (it)
Thanks for the Lesson on Latin
Other lyrics are ''You, who has been waiting for god, do not fear, what is left, and he will give you strenght''
Well i guess it works since Forgotten is a just easy mode 2.0
This music could still be disturbing and creepy but it can still be one of my favorite songs from this game
I was playing without really paying attention to the game, because I wasn't expecting anything from that run. But I was really lucky, so I easly defeated mom's heart. The angel room appeared, so I went in. I was new to the game, but I knew that the beam of light will teleport me somewhere cool. I didn't know it was cathedral. I putted my headphones back on, so I could hear new OST. And I was blessed with this masterpiece...
Thats the good thing about playing games for the first time, same thing happen to me when i heard Fiekd of Hopes and Dreams from Deltarune Chapter 1 👌
I will never forget that feeling when I entered Cathedral for the first time and heard this banger.
In fact I had that feeling second time, when I entered Mausoleum for the first time.

i like how heaven is supposed to make you feel safe but this song makes it scary and you feel like youre about to be judged, exactly what isaac would feel when entering since he saw himself as a devil
I never understood who was actually trying to help Isaac in the first place cause they both had different benefits to help Isaac during this time the devil would take something making it harder not to die but could give you a rlly go Benefit, Jesus would give items without needing to sacrifice an item or anything, iv also seen a little confusing thing about the talk between his mom and Jesus it showed that it wasn’t Jesus there was a spirit similar to Isaac but more manipulating than he was and he was the one who was actually speaking to his mother making her try to kill her son to please him.
..
There is so much of this game that makes it harder to understand like new items the new things you incounter when repeating, issacs dead cat and his body parts somehow being in the basement without knowing how guppys parts made it down there...
There are so many more things to question about this game and it’s the reason why it makes it so much better to play
So gothic and mysterious...incredible
