I forgot the nickname there because of weather changes quick from hot to heavy rain to snow (not in order) n vise versa. That was crazy for 19yr old from California, lol
Was @ Fort Leonard Wood in 2004 for BCT and AIT 31B. Miss it.. Seems like not much has changed. Pack light people and let family know that you'll not be able to talk much, you will get home sick, don't let that distract you, keep focused and know your mission. Don't let drill sergeants scare you, it's their jobs, they are actually very nice people after week 4. Wish I could do it all over again. I was a Drill Sergeant at Ft. Leonard Wood from 02/1969 thru 09/1970. Trained many soldiers that I was very proud of and have no regrets other than knowing everything I taught them from my own combat experience would get most of them thru the toughest of times in Vietnam and enable them to return safely home. Times have changed and after viewing this video I realized how much tougher it was for recruits when I was a Drill Sergeant. It seems like today the DI's are limited in what they can do to make civilians soldiers and the training seems easier. Tougher training makes much better soldiers.
Yeah it is definitely way easier but most videos you see of Army BCT don’t show what really goes down, especially motivational ones like this. No doubt easier than during your time though.
I remember when I went to FLW in 83....there was a handsome black guy in my company named Franks....there was a young black female civilian chow worker with huge natural-beautiful D Tits....she used to always flirt with him in the morning on the chow line......if I could go back I would have gone in the stall at night and jacked off to her image in my mind.....those fuckers had me so stressed out I never jacked off once in boot camp....
That was about 2 weeks before I graduated from Basic Combat Training, I am at Ft Leonard Wood as well. It will be a great experience for him like it was for me.
I was drafted into the Army in 1968 during the Vietnam war. They sent me to Ft. Leonard Wood for basic. NOBODY failed basic training during that period, the Drill Sergeants “fixed” it so everybody graduated basic training. Uncle Sam needed body counts in the ‘Nam!
I went through BCT in August, 1966 at Leonard Wood. It sure has changed a lot. Wish I could do it again now. The new recruits have no idea how GOOD they have it today. My very best to all new comers... Jim
I have been in many situations,,through some tough stuff after graduating Ft Leonardwood, Engineers, you with the ENGINEERS and made tough, like the tankers in Big Red One. I did some research about other training facilities...you were selected to go here, by your recruiter because you have something good, a particular skill ...you are trained very tough here, but you are not a grunt at this Basic ..you have a skill that the Army wants. All the other Army Camps treat you like a Cannon Fodder ..You are taken to Ft Leonard wood because you are smart on your ASVAB ..FT Leonard wood is the SMART SCHOOL, entry to MI, Officer Training, Leadership positions...Army ENGINEERING. If you was dumb, you wouldn't be going to here..Take advantage of this, do what is expected...Graduate from this fine basic Camp...you will go places and achieve. Best basic training of all the others.

You broke me down, my friend. When my son was 19, he signed up for 8 years in The Guard. Next month, he will be 5 years in. Reply to me? I'm 60, and he was my only live birth, of 5 pregnancies. Would love to hear your story. Are you still in? Family? Doing ok? I love and pray for our First Responders several times a day. If you do, please share... many people need encouragement and comfort these days, right?
@@majoroldladyakamom6948 wow...I don't even feel worthy of your recognition. You and your family's contribution to our armed forces are incredible. So many people don't understand that americans have a false sense of security because of the hard work and sacrifice that soldiers and public service endure every day. I'm an oregon native but could never tollerate too much "Get rid of guns" or "Hug it out talk". Our safety was established and is maintained for the highest price...blood. My family is more famous for crime drugs and toughness more than anything. They don't trust the government. They were angry at me for pushing my son too hard.I never did serve but 2 family members I know of did. One in the Pacific on the uss Robinson (rip jack)the other an army sergeant that served in korea established the line that my son is holding as I write.I spent my childhood in group homes and the children's shelter till I earned my release at 17.One smack of the gavel and i was a legal adult the following day I was released before breakfast with $1.50 and a bus pass in east san jose.being told what to do and when every day was last on my list. Freedom was unknown to me and I wasn't about to sign up. I was a huge fan though. kicked my son out because he was adult age and not working or attending school. He had more opportunity and support than anyone in the history of our bloodline and I refused to watch him piss it away on my couch. He told me he had signed up and talked like it was all cake.I thought going from the couch to basic was too big a leap.I told him we couldn't do anything for him now and even if he was a runway model for combat fatigues stationed in Switzerland they were gonna make him a soldier first.Tried to make him more aware without discouraging him.The words you read were just another example of how I use creativity as a coping mechanism.During the blackout period I saw the first photo of my son and was convinced he was going to quit.I wrote about what I went through and the tools I developed to get through it as a tutorial to help not knowing if it did.It seemed up to that point that I couldn't do anything but anger him. When I received the next photo there he was marching in the snow carrying his m4 with his battle rattle on and the intro to "the rifleman" came on the t.v.When I did finally speak to him I discovered that my letters inspired him and all of charlie co. and even the drill sergeants knew about me.He not only made it through he medaled for his record performance for expert. marksmanship. That whole group was the highest declarated and promoted ever.I had no idea how powerful my words could be.I now write "any soldier" letters to ft. Leonard wood hoping to inspire more and after much encouragement am compiling those letters and attempting to publish them.Never occurred to me that I was smart enough to publish a book.Songs-shine by breaking grass(possibly the song that drove my son to sign),travelin soldier dixie chicks,he walked all the way home blue highway, the river runs red and sticks that made thunder steeldrivers, private malone by? Other noteworthy material too many movies to list but To hell and back, band of brothers, the big red one,and patton george c scott. The intro speach alone is incredible. The real footage from documentaries give you a better understanding of why ww2 era are known as the greatest generation.Thank you for reaching out to me.Let me know of other ways I can possibly connect with more soldiers and vets.
Mind? By all means...do so. For family friends and soldiers going through this it's an experience that's hard to put into words for all parties. If you can't find the words yourself use mine. To people trying to support their troop... write letters. The impact you have will carry them through every single day. Sandboxx app letters get to them immediately and let you send a picture so you don't have to wait to get their address. That picture and that letter will be their only and most prized personal possession. While your at it take advantage of your captive audience and give advice or life experience. Relay to them coping mechanisms you use and examples of how they've helped you through your struggles. Inspirational quotes from powerful figures can pull a soldier out of despair and restore his or her game face. Even all the wrong words spelt incorrectly will be cherished so lighten up. Don't be surprised if you find out you helped a whole lot more people than them. Thank you justin for your recognition and your contribution. When you are struggling through this and doubt tries to creep in dig deep come out swinging twice as hard and keep punching all the way to the bell.
My father went in 86 to "lost in the woods." He still loves it to this day. Swears he would go back if he wasnt too old now lol. It was hard and he is only 5'3" and 130lbs but he not only survived and thrived. Also has one of the fastest 2 miles at the base. Nickname in his yearbook is "Flash." First name is Gordon. I'm going in a month to the fort, wish me luck, I hope i can do half as good as he has
I just graduated from Fort Leonard Wood, and the best advice I can give you is to be a good soldier, means obey all rules. Learn quick and respect your fellow soldiers! And you will succeed my brother and sister!
Ahhh... The memories... The kids have it tougher than ever but this vid brought back those days and nightmares like they were just yesterday instead of 43 years ago. I wish I could do it all over again. I had an insane amount of fun and adventure over the 20 years I served! I started my military life in E/3/3 at Ft. Leonard Wood and did my first pushup for Uncle Sam 43 years ago.
Wow.....!!!! some things have changed. I was there in 1991, it's amazing that now I look back and cannot believe I made it through. Hated it at first, but I learned to respect and admire my drill sergeants. Make no mistake; they gave me hell ten times over.
I am class of 1995. Dalta 3/10. My instructors are SGT. Gee and SSG. Garbel - Combat Engineer. Never forget them. I learned from the best . I survived Iraq! Learn and take your training seriously.... Someday will save your life or your buddies. One thing my Drill Instructors taught me... As much as we all loved our country don't sacrifice your life for our country, make sure the other basters ( Enemies) sacrifice his life for his country . Uncle Sam needs you!
I went through training at Ft. Leonard Wood in August 1979 through Dec. 12th. I was in E. 1-2 I/ I 'm trying to find the cadre that trained me. One turned out to be Command Sargent Major Richard Jennings. Another was SGT. Fredrick Dickmeyer. I sure would like to get in contact with these Men to tell them Thank You.
i graduated in 1984 echo company as 12c i was a fat kid at 6 ft 1 240lbs when i graduated i weighed 185lbs could do 90 push ups in two min and run 2 miles in 11 min looks like thing have change a little but i will remember one drill sargent ssg w. katzur he always motivated me to do my best and his words we expect great things from you.thanks for the vidio.
super nostalgic intro... I wanna be a truck driver since my last name caries a strong trucking influence and i've always loved driving with a misson.. currently working in the elevator union that pays real high.. starting is $27.... I know I'm gonna take a heavy pay cut. but I might love it because of feels and adventure.....
+Roxanne Santori - Thank you for your Service. I joined the Marines in 1999 and can't believe time has flown by so quick. Seems like yesterday I was a MEPs signing the papers. I had to comment because being you joined the Military in 1999 like me it brought back memories.
Justin Porta Keep your head up and don't do stupid shit (a saying from my drill bully lol!) Run as fast as you can, get your rifle sights correct, and you will be fine.
I was at Ft lost in the woods in 72 hot and miserable but I lived thru it and everything the Army threw at me after was gravy including the 12 months I spent in Korea looking at North Korea. So everything gets better. Hang in there and thanks for your service.
When they put you in the gas chamber, there is about 20 soldiers standing in a line. You will have to take your mask off and count from the first person to last... like person one says one person 2 says two and so on. If one person slips up or runs out, you will repeat the process.
Hard to believe it's been 12 years since I went through the Wood. I was in Delta Company 35th for OSUT. Looking at this video little has changed since I was last there. Honestly, if I had to go through it again, I would do it with a smile. Believe me when I say Basic Training is NOTHING compared to the day to day BS you will put up with when you get to a real unit.
Oh yeah, the Guard was a totally different world than the Regular Army. I did two years after I left active duty. It's almost like a family atmosphere during drills. At least with my old unit Officers didn't want you to salute them, you also could actually carry on real conversations with everyone regardless of rank.
But don't get me wrong, they expected you to do what you were told and get work done. And we did, and I think we respected our leaders even more because they were so cool.
I Did 16yrs In The Military, They Were The BEST Day's Of My Life... I Did My Basic & AIT (11-Bravo) At Ft.Benning, Ga... I Was At Sand Hill, Bravo Company 1/19th, 4th Plt... My Final Rank Was SFC-E7 & I Was A Training/Operation NCO, 2000-2016...
Do take time to savor the great woods you will train in. Love all those oak trees. I can still smell the crispy leaves of late fall. Ft. Lost in the Woods is a special place. Charlie 3-3, Charlie 3-3 the best damn company in the BCT! Good luck future Soldiers.
Cal Crappie I have a pretty interesting story during night navigation heard some growling in the trees next to me one time and still not sure if it was a bobcat or what it was but it was deep and a long growl lol
Raphmaster23, yeah, who knows. Probably a bobcat, but there have been 64 confirmed mountain lion encounters/sightings (photos, carcass, films etc.) since 1994 in Missouri according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. They are apparently repopulating areas as they spread back east. The map on their website has lots of dots near/south of FTLW.
I trained here in Ft Leonardwood in 1989. It seem more "mellower" nowadays than back then. The ride from reception to basic training was by cattle truck not bus back then.
Was in the process for army reserves until I talked to national guard and offered me 12 b on reserves so 12b soon to be after all this paper work again
I ship to Fort Lwood On March 11th, I was suppose to go to Benning but there were complications with my reserved job so I was switched. I was so excited to go to Benning I knew almost everything about it but now I’m just worried and nervous about going to Lwood.
Lol, 5:49 "Three square meals a day". I remember that: "Since all of you decided to be 'late' this morning, you will only have 10 seconds to eat your breakfast, One.. Two.. TEN, GET UP PRIVATES, STOP CHEWING, GET OUT OF MY FUCKING DFAC" lol. Don't get me wrong though, wouldn't trade that experience for the worlds. Good luck to everyone that's coming in.
In 1988 I was stationed at FT Leonardwood for Basic Training (D CO 210) and the night I got there via ST Louis airport on a Grayhound bus. I stayed 1 or 2 nights in the WWII barracks before getting to my regular Basic Training unit!
I remember when I went to FLW in 83....there was a handsome black guy in my company named Franks....there was a young black female civilian chow worker with huge natural-beautiful D Tits....she used to always flirt with him in the morning on the chow line......if I could go back I would have gone in the stall at night and jacked off to her image in my mind.....those fuckers had me so stressed out I never jacked off once in boot camp....
i was there back in june 1989 , this film brings back a lot of memories for me ! i was in charlie company , i will never forget sgt. cruz and sgt. hernandez !! you will never forget the drill sgt names.
BCT at Leonard Wood dead of winter 75-76. Lovely weather! We froze our asses off crawling through the snow and sub zero temperatures. Then they put us on busses and planes and made us burn 2 weeks of our 30 day annual vacation time because the post training was closing for the holiday period. Kind of fun to go home though during a "half time" break in Basic.
Yamilet, not 100% sure, but the implication was that it was mandatory. Caught us by surprise and we did not expect to be going home for Christmas/New Years. Ask your recruiter if you're going in. Good luck.
Its fun watching this before going to OSUT there, and then after. I remember 2 weeks before graduating our my Drill SGT took us to this location at 8:58 and made us rake all the leaves with our hands by the tree line right behind where the busses dropped off in the video. Fun seeing all the locations I have been too.
HOOAH! Bravo 35th! It's good to see most of my Drill Sergeants again :) If anyone has any questions on what to expect, shoot me a pm! Graduated with honors in 2013, there has probably been a few changes with how things work since then but I assume most of the training has stayed the same.
Our son PV2 Peterson Jacob went in to basic training 15 October 2019 At Fort Leonardwood Missouri Now PV2 Peterson 5 November 2019 3rd week red week rigorous training PV2 Peterson loving all the training. Weeks are going by so fast having fun liking his Drill Sgt. Basic training is the best! A Co. 1st Infantry 48th REGIMENT 3rd Platoon Warthogs Fort Leonardwood MO.

this is crazy I have a passion for the army , I've done research and watched videos for at least 2 months now, and for the mos i want (12B-Combat Engineer) i would end up here for BCT at Fort Leonard. One of the major things holding me back from signing a contract is believe it or not my huge huge fear of neetles. I think id be great for the army but the Bicillin (Peanut butter shot) is freakin me out. Is it a absolute must that I would have to get the Shot?
As someone who did basic at ft Leonard Wood (in 2006) I can assure you they aren't treated with respect and they are hazed.... Especially the females! I remember a male drill sergeant too all the females outside in the snow and made us work out for over an hour until the captain came and told us to go in. And you do get to make phone calls.... On Sundays if you have the money and priviledges. It was a challenging experience that changed me in a good way... AIT is definitely easier and more fun. Ft bliss was it for me!
Went to basic at fort leonardwood in 1975 drill Sargents were very tough i made it through in pretty good shape next duty was ait at Aberdeen once i completed this i was off to Bamberg Germany for permanent duty station wouldn't trade any of it for a million dollars
Certainly has changed since I went their in June 1973 ! C - 1 / 52 Vietnam Era Vet - Feb 85. Disabled, Ret. U.S. Army. 63B10 Wheel Vehicle Mechanics Course next door. Upon Re-up after first enlist 63H20 at Ft. Meade, Md. 1977 2 nd Service School. The Above M.O.S.'S = A perfect match to become a future Battalion Maintenance Sergeant. Awesome high position at Battalion Level Command ! I made this position as an Sgt, E - 5. At Ft Cason, Colorado after 1 Years Special Duty with the AGI as An 2nd Infantry Divisional Inspector. Normally this Position it takes an E-6 - E - 8 for Battalion Maintenance Sergeant. WHOAAAAAA

Scopes? Elbow and knee pads? What type of white phase was they in. I remmber iron sights and we shared five IOTVs between our whole platoon. XD gotta love Ft lost in the woods though. Delta 1-48 for life.
Hey guys, what do you think about the 15 series (Army Aviation Stuff)? I think its a pretty cool job, like 15T, 15J, 15Y, 15U, or 15R. A lot of the time they step up (mostly 15T and 15U) to being the door gunner on choppers. Do you think you could get behind the wire with these MOSs or the 15T one? You know....I don't wanna get my head blown off. I think that since the chinooks are used for transporting equipment and supplies they shouldn't really meet any combat, no? But of course any MOS could see combat.

Alepta Liam L Carman Jr I scored a 35. And I’m leaving on August 5th to Ft “LOST WOODS”

So many sleepless nights
For this one day
I'm ready for your worst
Show me the way
The more that i suffer
The stronger i grow
The harder i throw
Each days one day closer to home

I'm going to send this poem to my family when I am shipped if you don't mind.
I just graduated from Fort Leonard Wood, and the best advice I can give you is to be a good soldier, means obey all rules. Learn quick and respect your fellow soldiers! And you will succeed my brother and sister!
Great video. I attended BCT in 1972. Retired in 1998. It was an interesting 26 years.
Ahhh... The memories... The kids have it tougher than ever but this vid brought back those days and nightmares like they were just yesterday instead of 43 years ago. I wish I could do it all over again. I had an insane amount of fun and adventure over the 20 years I served! I started my military life in E/3/3 at Ft. Leonard Wood and did my first pushup for Uncle Sam 43 years ago.
my boyfriend left to go here a few days ago. i miss him so badly. i really hope he’ll be alright

One thing my Drill Instructors taught me... As much as we all loved our country don't sacrifice your life for our country, make sure the other basters ( Enemies) sacrifice his life for his country . Uncle Sam needs you!
I was there from Sept. 7, to Nov. 14th, of 1967. I remember a lot, and even have my target that I shot at, from the rifle range!

I was not speaking of Fort Benning. I was never there. I was commenting on Fort Leonardwood.
I was at Ft lost in the woods in 72 hot and miserable but I lived thru it and everything the Army threw at me after was gravy including the 12 months I spent in Korea looking at North Korea. So everything gets better. Hang in there and thanks for your service.
I was there in 1976, made me stronger but i'm still fighting a few bats in my belfry from it ;)
When they put you in the gas chamber, there is about 20 soldiers standing in a line.
Sir Arnold you are the first guy i read say that.
That is of course if you're active duty. Not sure you could say the same about Nasty Girls.
Stu Jones
ha then im saved.

I was at ft Leonard Wood during the winter. Miserable is the key word of my experience. Had me wondering why i didn't enlist in the Airforce LOL

Cal Crappie do they make you go home or is voluntarily?
Yamilet, not 100% sure, but the implication was that it was mandatory. Caught us by surprise and we did not expect to be going home for Christmas/New Years. Ask your recruiter if you're going in. Good luck.
Its fun watching this before going to OSUT there, and then after. I remember 2 weeks before graduating our my Drill SGT took us to this location at 8:58 and made us rake all the leaves with our hands by the tree line right behind where the busses dropped off in the video. Fun seeing all the locations I have been too.
Good luck recruits. It's just the start of a long and life changing journey

this is crazy I have a passion for the army , I've done research and watched videos for at least 2 months now, and for the mos i want (12B-Combat Engineer) i would end up here for BCT at Fort Leonard. One of the major things holding me back from signing a contract is believe it or not my huge huge fear of neetles. I think id be great for the army but the Bicillin (Peanut butter shot) is freakin me out. Is it a absolute must that I would have to get the Shot?
so what happened

NO= Numerous opportunities. YES= My career ends now
