Making a Leather Bag Satchel with an AK-47 / AK-74 Sling. Leatherworking ASMR

- In this leathercraft video I make a looked-over fashion accessory: the man bag (some may call it a man purse). I had some military surplus Russian AK-47 / AK-74 slings laying around I used as the shoulder strap.
I filmed this a few months ago and it was the first real project I made with my Cobra Class 26 sewing machine. Hence, why I don't look too confident using it.
If I were to build this pattern again, I would add a small gusset to it, just to increase it's carry capacity..

What a cool use for those old surplus slings! Nice touch!
Awesome! As usual.
Love the two-tone!
Great job on this bag. Really enjoying your videos.
really nice
Yeah looks fantastic, please make the one with a gusset!
Beautiful work Thanks you God Bless
Gave me a good idea for a passenger seat bag to hang from the headrest.
Хорошая сумочка получилась, можно ещё что-то похожее сделать?)))
I love the videos but erm surely you don’t prance around Texas with that shirt and that bag buddy!! 😂😂
Wow! You should make a matching one for your boyfriend.
That's a wonderful purse, unless your fighting Nazis in the ruins of an ancient culture then that's a cool satchel.
But I said it was a satchel, haha man purse , no it’s a cross body bag, lol man with a purse. If it doesn’t fit in your pocket or holster don’t Cary it in your man purse unless your ok carrying a man purse and owning it.
👍🏾
"It's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one!"
👍👍❤️❤️❤️
I need this in my life
Very nice project, you use a set of blued steel cutters for corners, slots, etc - who carries those? They look very useful
Thanks! They're on Amazon. Just look up "leather corner cutters". There's several kits from different sellers. Cheap too. Like around $10-$20.
@@RoadAgentLeather Many thanks, you are right, very cheap!
Any possibility that you could link the two sets of radius cutters (for the corners and the zipper) you used in the first five minutes of the video? It would be greatly appreciated.
There's several variations of these sets on Amazon. Use keywords "Leather Corner Punch Set" or "Leather Semi Circle Punch Set". They're all inexpensive.
@@RoadAgentLeather Thank you, I appreciate it.
What brand/model is your sewing machine?
Cobra Class 26
I think it'd be nice with a small gusset, which wouldn't be hard to add... Great project. Thanks for the video...
Agreed. At the time I was more concerned about making it slim. If I were to build another I would ad a small gusset (maybe 1-inch) to the front zipper pouch.
Trying to duplicate your version of this bag, but running into plenty of "issues" - especially challenging sewing! But the bigest problem I have encountered is finding "D rings" of sufficient size to allow the surplus slings to be mounted. I bought two separate sets of 1" ones but they are not TALL enough to allow the fittings on the slings to pass through one of them. Where did you get the ones you used?
BTW - don't take any crap about "man-bags", etc. It's a good looking bag & versatile enough to be useful without respect to gender. Call it gender neutral. Nice job!
@@HermanChelette Hey! I purchased the hardware from Tandy Leather.
@@RoadAgentLeather Thanks! That's where I got my first set (which were too "brassy" as well as too small). The plan calls for 20mm (about 3/4") so I went with 1" from Amazon worrying that they might be too big. I actually put one in a vice and drove one of the strap's snap end through it with a hammer. It works, but not well. I'll try to find some 30mm ones. The other problem with the "D rings", of course, is color. I haven't really found an "antiqued" one that matches like yours do. The 1" ones are gunmetal & tolerable, but less than desirable. Did you blue them like you did the zippers? If so, what finish did you start with?
@@HermanChelette Just measured them. They're the 1-1/2" antique nickel. Getting the sling's hardware through the D-ring was the limiting factor (and was difficult for me as well.) Of course it depends on what exact sling you're using.
Thank you again! You're making my life easier! BTW, I was drawn to your channel by admiration of the gorgeous holsters you make. I really like your use of contrasting colors/textures to give your articles "WOW!" value
Glad you dont have pat# for it
Lmfao!!!
A man bag ? Guess I hit the wrong button. lol
lol. I can only do so many cowboy holsters before it gets repetitive.
@@RoadAgentLeather well, you DID add an assault rifle sling to it...
BTW, nice pre-weathered leather
@@RoadAgentLeather Yeah just ribbing ya. Great content.
It’s European!!!
I sent you an E-mail- please check it out and keep up the great work..
thanks for the heads-up!
Love the bag, however, I’ll stick with a side holster. I feel I would have better luck taking my shoe off, cutting my big toe nail, and stab a person in the eye than trying to get that pea shooter out of that pocket.
You can't camouflage it by calling it a "satchel," that's a PURSE!
lol. At least I didn't call it a man-bag.
with your leather working experience, WHY would you use somebody elses pattern???? Dude, just make your own pattern.
You got it in the bag 🎒 🛄 🧳
