    A review of the Foxwell NT809 automotive diagnostic scan tool. This is a mid-level, pro grade scan tool with bidirectional control (also called actuation tests) that will pretty much handle about 99% of things that you could need to repair your own vehicle. It is very well built, it has a nice bright touch screen, with a kickstand on the back, and it’s very intuitive to use. If you can operate a modern day smartphone, then you should be able to easily operate this tool. The included, printed owner’s manual is very well written, easy to read, and includes definitions for all abbreviation that are found on the scan tool. This is handy for users who may not be familiar with all the abbreviations and/or acronyms used in the auto repair world. This Foxwell NT809 scan tool comes with a hard formed canvas case with a handle, the scan tool itself, the OBDII cable, the charger cable with USB-A to USB-C, owner’s manual, and quick start guide.
    I did notice the OBDII cable is a tad shorter than I would like, but inexpensive OBDII extension cables can be found all over the internet. In fact, I believe all corded OBDII scan tools could benefit from an extension cable regardless of how long the included cable may be. This way you can easily move about the vehicle while staying connected during auto repairs. Also, I noticed the tool does not come with a power brick (charger). Again, not a big deal because by now, most people probably already have a bunch of these laying around from other devices…. But I still feel it should’ve been included with the tool.
    Bottom line, I’ve used many different brands and models of automotive scanners.... This tool seemed very well built and very easy to use. The software was intuitive and functioned smoothly. If you’re in the market for a mid-level pro grade scan tool with bidirectional control, be sure to put this one on your consideration list.

    Appreciate the reviews you've been doing.
    I was leaning towards the Autel MX808 (new BIDIRECTIONAL updates sounded great), or the MS906 Pro TS. Big difference in price and functions. Not finding a list of functions of the MX808, so I sought out other brands.
    Then I found your channel. Now I've abandoned the Autel MX808. Just can't find all the functions that have been added (BTW the mk and mx are essentially the same, Autel has a piss poor way of explaining their tool line up).
    So now I'm looking at the Foxwell 809TS, 819TS, and the XtoolD8.
    I'm not seeing an Xtool with TPMS, SO, I'm probably leaning towards the 809TS or 819TS, mainly for the few extra functions possible with the 819TS, like tire size adaptations and a few other randoms, such as tpms.
    For those on the fence, consider each brand and their tools POSSIBLE functions. Foxwell seems to have a few more, plus tpms, AND OBD1 cable kit (809 model only it looks like) for roughly the same as the xtool brand. I compared the NT809 gainst the Xtool D8, as close to apples to apples comparison within $100 of each other or so, I thought. I don't think you'd go wrong with these Foxwells, with the exception of using FCA AutoAuth. My understanding is AutoAuth only works with USA serialed units, and who knows what you'll get from Amazon. You may not be able to register with AutoAuth (if you have, did you get yours from Amazon?).
    NT809BT is $369, WITH obd1 cable adapters its $499. BLUETOOTH
    NT809TS is $399 with obd1 adapters is $528. BLUETOOTH/TPMS
    The tpms functions win me over. More function at a minor extra cost.
    Again, thanks for the reviews!

      Good information, Sir! Every little bit of info can help a viewer decide which tool is right for them. And as you said, scan tool manufacturers don't really make the difference between tools very obvious. Thanks for the informative comment!

    Hi, Always review on top, what is your feeling about Foxwell brand, better than Xtool ?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 роки тому +1

      They are both good. I have far more experience with XTOOL so I can't really say fairly either way. There is a new wireless Bluetooth version of this NT809 tool. In fact I'm doing a video this week about it. Stay tuned for that video. It's basically the same tool as this one, but wireless. Thanks.

    I’m in the market for a bi directional scan tool
    I saw your vlog on the Xtool d9 pro would you recommend I purchase that one?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 роки тому

      I would need to know more about how you use scan tools. Do you use them every day as a professional mechanic? DIY part time mechanic? Only work on friends and family vehicles? Do you do all major repairs, or only basic stuff? The D9 PRO is probably not my first recommendation. The D9 (non pro) or the D8 is probably more than most DIY'ers could ever use. And in fact, now that the D7 had that major update a few weeks back, it's now near the top of my recommendation list. This particular Foxwell NT809 will be coming as a Bluetooth model soon. It's the NT809BT. I will have one of those in the next few days to look at.

      @SlipFitGarage  Рік тому

      I wish I could but I don't have a 2003 Benz w211 e40 to physically plug my scan tool into.... and being plugged into the vehicle is what populates the on-screen menus and functions. You should able to visit the Foxwell website and see which reset function this tool supports on specific makes/models.

    With the nt809 can i reset an airbag module after changing the airbags and sensors?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 роки тому

      I do believe so.... however, usually the ABS system does a complete system check with every key cycle.... I've replaced airbag sensors in the past and the airbag system (and the light) resets itself. I've never needed a scan tool to clear airbag lights after sensor replacement. I'm not saying every vehicle is this way.... it's just my personal experience.

      Yes, I believe it should. However, I do not have a 2009 Honda to plug into to verify that options appears in the menu. Maybe a quick email to the Foxwell's customer service email address listed in the Amazon listing would verify either way, just to be sure. Thanks

      @@ericcabigting4094 I wish I had answers for you..... Unfortunately I am not on the Foxwell Tech support team. I would suggest either contacting Foxwell's customer service/tech department directly, or just send it back for a refund. I can 100% guarantee there is NOT a single scan tool on the market that works 100% with every make/model ever made in the world. ALL scan tools have problems with certain makes/models. Even the most expensive Snap-on scan tools struggle on certain models. Sorry.

    How would you compare this to say the XTool D7 or D8. Better, worse, or comparable (opinions are subjective of course, just wondering what you think)

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 роки тому +3

      This Foxwell NT809 has basically the same functionality as the XTool D7. I've used the same truck in all my scan tool review videos to keep things fair. To give you an example, neither the NT809 or the D7 will reset the fuel/alcohol composition or the passenger presence sensor in the passenger seat of that truck. To get those features, you would need to set up to the next level of scan tool. In the XTool line that would be the D8. And currently I am not sure what the Foxwell model number is for the next level scan tool. Both tools are very comparable. There might be a slight difference if you compare the details at 17:00 in this video, to the details of the D7 that can be found near the end of my D7-D8 comparison video.... but that is up to your personal opinion. Thanks for the question.

  • @stevenperry2157

    If none of the tools apply to your vehicle, what good does it do. Absolutely nothing. My car has tpms, but magically it doesn't work. If the car has it it should function for the cost of the unit.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 роки тому

      LOLOL..... ther isn't a car on the market that can use EVERY function on this scan tool. If I had to review this scan tool with EVERY car on the market to satisfy EVERY car owner on earth, the video would be 114 years long. C'mon.... think about it! If you have this scan tool, and it doesn't work for you, then just simply return it for a refund. Easy.

  • @stevenperry2157
    @stevenperry2157 2 роки тому

    For the cost of the unit, it's a deal breaker. The manual DOES NOT EXPLAIN PROCEDURES OF THE MACHINE. NOT WORTH $500

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 роки тому +2

      I can guarantee you that NO scan tool comes with a manual that explains EVERY function, on EVERY car ever made! The manual would be 42,673 pages. Just return your scan tool if you're not happy with it. Thanks for the comment.
