I really like this format, the combos you can do are crazy. The DDT build especially, going 2nd it can obviously otk, but people underestimate going 1st boards: you can setup 3 Plasma or 2 Plasma + Dogma if you are running dogma, making an almost unbeatable board (if you get lucky with reasoning you can also get a jinzo to stop crush card) yes the combo is a bit glass cannon, but its really fun. I enjoy this format a lot, the amount of draws you do in a turn are crazy, making for some really fun duels
13:34 love the insight you give here, things you would change with what you know now and what knowledge you have from playing for so long. I'd heavily appreciate more of this and in depth explanations in the future :) Great video as always.
Love the editing and explanations man. Could you maybe do a tier list for what in your opinion is the most skill formats from 2002-2012? I think it would be cool if you took 3 or 4 formats from each year and rated them based on skill and gameplay. Just an idea 😄
Jesus christ, I took some of the tips you recommended here and tried them out on ladder. cut the trooper, reaper, plasma goats and torrie for an extra duplication, two upstart and a doom lord/diamond dude. the speed Is just insane! people have been uploading the original lists and just getting blown out. I feel like a god whose only problem I have is what do I cut for a third upstart goblin
You could watch Lithium2300's "Cross Banlist Cup" series, where he matches tournament topping decks against each other, among which there is a DAD-Return list.
Such a black hole of a format that so few people remember the decks and match ups of. Easily confused with teledad format wand which cards were available. My favorite memory was getting crushed while I had DMOC, reborn, amd armageddon knight in hand. OTKd because I was crushed lololol
I actually built this deck back in 2016 to play with. It's a lot of fun and I enjoy it. Sadly, my play group is in the corner of "this formats bad all you do is draw out your deck and get otk'd by dark armed dragon" so I don't get to play it often but even just drawing 6 and seeing how far you can go is fun to do on your own. If you were to cut card trooper and reaper what would you replace them with? You mentioned upstart but is there any other cards you might consider? Love the profiles! Can't wait for more!
One of my favorite decks of all time. Sadly I didn't play back then and when I first started messing with it, I had no idea why it was good...until I discovered the Cyber Valley Dimension Fusion loops and I freaked out. This deck truly was art and Jerry Wang is a genius.
At my locals we're starting to play 2008 format up until August 2008, before Synchros were released, using the May 2008 banlist. I did a bit of research on my own and saw the Gladiator Beasts were meta back then, what else was good that format? What was fun? What was degenerate? I started playing in 2012 so I'm not very familiar.
Cold Wave+Prisma+Test Tiger was the best thing you could do during 2008. Other top decks included the watered down DAD variants (ex. Cesar DAD), pre-Charge Lightsworn and Corn Monarchs (the variant with Prime Material Dragon). I think GBs were the best deck - by a considerable margin. The format actually was very good. Top players consistently did well. Just look at the Nationals top cut. Scurry, Bowling, Ackerman, Corn, etc. Heck, we saw an epic SJC finals between Adam Corn and Lazaro Bellido. What more could anyone want?
Could you expand more on activating Return from the different dimension as chain link two to avoid torrential? Having difficulty wrapping my head around how that resolves / makes torrential useless.
If Return is CL2 (for the sake of argument - say Destiny Draw was CL1). Well, Return will fully resolve as CL2 and summon all of the banished monsters. Then Destiny Draw needs to resolve. Once the chain has ended, there is no window to Torrential since the last effecting was to draw two. Torrential cannot be activated mid-chain.
Awesome video as always. Do you plan on making an X-Saber profile? I really liked that deck back in the day and the build you played against Pak had some really cool tech choices.
Yes. Synchros came out at the VERY end of this format. I remember topping a regional in NY with watered down DAD - and playing against a "Colossal Fighter deck" round 1.
Despite purchase and selling lots of high-end cards while playing semi-competitively for the better part of the last decade, I've never seen a Gold Series 2008 Crush Card Virus in person, which just speaks to how rare it was back at the height of its playability. As always, a phenomenal breakdown of the format. Any plans to do Gladiator Beasts, either at the end of this format or with Rescue Cat later on?
*I love your stuff dude; hands-down the best Yu-Gi-Oh! content on UA-cam in every possible way.*
Wow! I really appreciate that!
I love any deck with dark armed dragon. one of the sickest boss monsters ever
Very true. I remember I got my first dark armed the day of the pre release. Lol I traded a destiny draw for it 😈

I like that each path to victory is slightly different.

I am not against a different style of video. It has definitely been something on my mind. I still have quite a few profiles to do.

soul release and dimension fusion/return from the different dimension is an insane combo
Whenever people say yugioh is just now crazy expensive , tell them about Dad Return
Ok I won't be poor, snob.
The price hike over 2 formats was crazy
Would love to see a duel with this deck
I will see what I can do!

That is a wild sequence.
Shout out to Paul Leviton for maining 3 shadow imp mirror lol

It might just be Upstart. I want cards that get me closer to combo pieces (I might even cut Torrential for Upstart too).

Yes. I plan on profiling several X-Saber decks!
@@YGOHistory Looking forward to it!
Could u possibly cover the BA decks that were out before new challengers was released
I have never played a single game with BA - so that one might be challenging (no pun intended) for me to do well.
Hell yessssss
dimension fusion is my favorite yugioh card. so funny the bs you can do with it.
Me too. Took too long to become popular.
Good times
Absolutely.
I think jerry wangs list was the most creative
What video editing software you use?
iMovie
So this is the last DM format before synchro mosnters?
Yes. Synchros came out at the VERY end of this format. I remember topping a regional in NY with watered down DAD - and playing against a "Colossal Fighter deck" round 1.
Do you have a discord? would be cool to have place to find people to play these formats!!
I do not. I am not well versed in Discord. Maybe I can look into it.
What sleeves do you use?
damn no 1080p? D:
I use OBS. These videos are already 3GB+ to make. Is there an effective way to do that? I absolutely would if I knew how.
Oh wait - this was a deck. So I use my phone at 4K - then AirDrop it over to my MacBook for editing on iMovie. Is there a better way to do that?
Do you ever stream on twitch?
I would not say that is something I regularly do.

Once I get more CP Bestiaris - GB is on the way!
@@YGOHistory It's all about the Ultimate Test Tigers. Everything in the videos part of your collection, or do you borrow to mix and match?
