This is such an informative class. She demonstrates her process so clearly. The things I learned here will improve my paintings a great deal. Love the artists you invite.
Our mentors are very generous with all the valuable information they provide. We are very grateful and it our pleasure to provide the public with these tips and techniques. psscwebsite.org
I have two of Liz's videos and she is such an incredible teacher, very methodical and clear in her instruction. I learned a lot and still learning! Thank you!
Best underpainting video I've seen. I like to use a wash of color that represents the ambient light in my oil painting, but I am good with charcoal, so I'll give it a try.
Thank you so much for sharing your techniques and experience. Fascinating. Even your under painting looks wonderful- I would frame! You are such an artist! The highest compliment I can ever give :)
Wow ! Oh I’m just thrilled with this knowledge of a wonderful instructor . I have never seen her or even heard of her work I’m in awe!! I’m fairly new in pastels been an oil painter most of my life .. But I will definitely go to her web page.. thank you for such a beautiful presentation.
Liz you are simply the Best by far👍🏻love your paintings, Videos and book! Your style seems so effortless yet so masterful. Unfortunately I am too far away for attending your workshops. Do you plan to do online workshops or something likewise. Greetings from across the Atlantic. God bless🙏🏻
I Have just discovered your channel and loving it as I am new to pastels. Do you use alcohol to set your charcoal. Underpainting as well? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents with us 😊
I am learning so much as I watch and rewatch this! I'm totally rethinking my approach to underpainting! Do we know where this resource photo was taken? It looks like California. And, is there someplace where we can see the final painting?
Such a helpful workshop!!! don't understand why the dark underpainting doesn't interfere with the colors of the pastels that are laid on top, muddying them up?
Not quite so, when I take a photo of a landscape, the colours produced are precisely true to life, sorry to disagree. I use Canon 40+megapix mirrorless equipment, and the colours have never, ever let me down
Great lesson! Thank you Liz. I’m much more informed about the importance of value now. Just one constructive criticism - slamming your paint brushes against your jar is really loud and it hurts my ears. It would help alot if you moved the jar away from the microphone.
Wow!!! Beautiful work!! Dulcie from Norwich UK
She's a wonderful teacher ❤
'Colour gets all the credit but value does all the work' Brilliant!
One of the most useful videos on pastels I have seen. Thank you!
She is clear and to the point. A wonderful teacher and mentor. Such important info to creating better paintings. Thank you for posting this!

You are most welcome!
Amazing. Thank you!
Realy loved this and learned so much!
Exceptional video! WOW. Thanks. Not sure why during the underpainting you aren't using the grayscale copy.
Do you sell DVD or give classes in real time.?
Wonderful lesson, thank you so much !
I am a total beginner in pastel- I have found that knowing a little about High Dynamic Range photography helps me understand values better

But if you like looking at all those beautiful pastels and enjoy buying every collection there is, and that makes you happy. Go for it.
Hello. I'd like to ask you something. What kind of paper is this painting on?
Sure would be awesome if you could put a materials list up with links.
Such a helpful workshop!!! don't understand why the dark underpainting doesn't interfere with the colors of the pastels that are laid on top, muddying them up?
That’s the beauty of pastels!
Because the pastel has settled into the paper with the alcohol and doesn't come off or mix with next layer of pastel.
Great tutorial thank you so much ! You mentioned what sounds like girole pastel? Apologies if I misheard but what are they?
"Girault" is a pastel brand
What is the brand of your pastel
