I've read that the 2022 G14 was designed for these almost boiling temperatures. Also buyer beware of bios updates. there have been a few that have trashed this laptop.
Best buy with this at under 1100 USD is an insane deal right now.

This G14 6700s got even cheaper today at best buy for $1199. Returning my 6800s that I received 2 days ago for this one since it's defected on arrival due to lines on the screen.
Return it for the 6800s. For $1,350 that’s an amazing deal for a way better gpu

Had this since day 1, there's alot you need to know to make sure this is what you want. Am very happy with this laptop the G14. A nightmare with Windows and AMD like always though gets fix fast nowadays so at least that's all I can say lol. I've tired this on every game, with no issues really. Unless your playing for E Sports for alot of cash.

Awesome machine is playing all I want, wifi card def getting changed but all problems are resolved with a unplug from the charger and a hard reset. Ram is next pretty much a Xbx/xbs that’s portable in my opinion. She gets hot

It's not plastic construction it's metal, you can literally go with a razor blade to get to the metal I wouldn't though 😑 But this does cause heat to go to the chassis which seems very hot but the inside is pretty chill.
I found one for $950. Cant wait for it to arrive
Picked one up open box from Best Buy for $720 🤪it was marked down because whoever had it had dirty hands and stained it pretty bad lol, nothing a drop of dish soap and a lightly damp rag can't clean in 2 minutes. Now it's like new 🥰amazing machine
I would recommend getting a USB-C 100w GaN charger for on the road, still lets you use the iGPU and CPU at full capacity but caps the dGPU. That charging brick is bonkers when next to the laptop lol
Loved the review Sean, I was looking to buy a gaming laptop and was very interested on this model, however because of the thermals I decided to go with a legion 7i that seemed a little bit better. However, with a bit of undervolting this laptop may get more acceptable thermals.
the thermals are fine this is bullshit. It's designed to hit 95c while gaming no problem its a damn 14" gaming laptop ffs like really?

Cooling pad arent that heavy and you can bring it pretty much anywhere so its a win

Not really looking to play triple AAA titles, mostly like Rainbowsix siege maybe some WoW and perhaps diablo 4 a lot.
I've had this since March and it's a great little laptop. My only complaint is how hot it gets!
Thank you for talking about the differences in Turbo mode and custom along with the wattages that you used. I just bought this laptop and think I was using the wrong usb c port for the dgpu I thought it was on the left.
After doing some research it seems the dgpu is the usb c on the right side of the laptop. Need to test it again as I was underwhelmed initially. No wonder wrong usb c port lol
I have this laptop - got it on sale here in New Zealand for $2699 NZD ($1700 USD Approx.) I have the 1920x1200 model and at this size its PERFECT and sharp for all types of use.
I game on this with it connected to a 1440p monitor and I get 120+ fps on mixed settings on MW2 (With FSR1.0 Highest quality). When I game on the laptop display at native resolution I get about 10% more performance (as it becomes more CPU bound at this resolution).
You can also create custom wattage/fan curves --> I only need to run it at the 85w maximum on some games and I get similar performance with about 20celcius less temps!
How much fps do you get on DMZ?

How did you limit the cpu watts? I did what he did in the video (18-25 watts) but Afterburner overlay shows the cpu using 90-100 watts instead of the cap from AC

What I don’t like about my ROG Zepherus that I didn’t know before o bought it is that it gets HOT and it shuts down windows in about 3 minutes if you have the lid closed while gaming. So, they apparently designed it so that the cooling comes through under the screen and keyboard keys. Ridiculous.
Is this typical, that you must have the lid open?
Just got this laptop used for $500. It's a freaking steal. I can definitely see this thing being worth over 1k.

@@superpixelgamer7775 Mostly luck, but A bit of persistence. Was due for a new laptop so I would check FB marketplace and Craigslist a few times a week. One day I saw the 2022 G14 pop up for $500. Messaged the guy right away and went to meet him. I was a little worried that it was too good to be true and the laptop would have some kind of problem, but that was a couple of months ago and I use it a lot with no real issues.

Hey Sean, I know most of your reviews just use the software available to you (in this case armoury crate). However, perhaps you can make a video on AMD APU Utility.
The advancement of this software (rather than ryzen controller) allows users to set a CPU temp limit, undervolt the cpu, and much more. When you set a cpu temperature limit, the cpu will use the highest clock / wattage it can to match your set cpu temp limit. Lastly, armoury crate Ultimate-mode on this laptop will cap gpu wattage to 80w, that's why you seen it stuck at 80w. This model can hit 100W.
Try setting the profile to turbo mode in armoury crate + capping cpu temps with AMD APU Utility. You should see your GPU boost to 100w more often. Another option is disabling Cpu Turbo Boost depending on the game. 80w is not in this small chassis, but ideally you want smart shift (amd's 'dynamic boost') to give more power to the gpu whenever possible.
Most of the temperature complaints about the g14 can easily be fixed with some setting changes. The out of box experience is hot though, I agree.

ve only had problems using AMD's software minus turning on super sampling.
I’ve done what you said and can never seem to hit 100 watts on the gpu, using “standard” or “optimized” gpu mode in AC and turned off boost from processor management and still no difference

late but mw2 is extremely crash prone on all types of hardware and is a terrible port so i wouldn't blame the laptop for that

Some models of the G14 have it. The ones sold at Best Buy do not.

Oh and can you start filming at 4K 60 fps? I know the iPhone lets you, probably Samsungs too. Would be good for those gameplay shots shoring the screen.
I use a dedicated Sony video camera (AX53), it does 1080/60 or 4K/30. I wouldn’t be able to get the same shots as well if I were using a phone. I used to upload in 60fps but some people complained about the 60fps and said it would lag on their phones compared to 30fps videos 🤷♂️

Edit: The problem actually had nothing to do with the computer. I've been pushing it hard for 3 weeks and it's excellent.
I am also thinking of purchasing one. Can you let me know if you were able to fix it or in case there were other issues mate?
@@altcointactics7289 Yes, the issue actually had nothing to do with the computer. After you read this comment I will delete that comment I forgot about it. I started playing plague tale on an Nvidia machine so when I re-downloaded it to my zephyrus it carried over some of the Nvidia specific settings which caused it to crash.
Hey man I just found you. This is honestly a really great review. I appreciate the information about the performance of the 6700s.
The only critique I would give is that you’re somewhat monotone which will limit your audience. So maybe experiment on your own time with ways to present differently. The other thing I’d say is your description of the keyboard and trackpad is pretty minimal. Maybe tune in on the details and really convey the positives and the responsiveness as compared to something else.

I just bought this model at Best buy for 900. It is on sale right now. The one I purchased was open box but it had never been opened so I saved about another 80 bucks. It's a very nice machine. I travel every week for work and this fits the bill for lightness and performance. The price is great!
