To everyone saying he was in denial and that he still had a drug habit when he died - he didn't. The autopsy upon his death confirmed he had no drugs or alcohol in his system but unfortunately the damage from so many years of abuse had already done the damage. Please don't disrespect the dead and leave him to rest in peace with all of the other great stars. RIP Andy gibb

According to his brothers and mother, he was drinking heavily in the days before his death. There were no drugs or alcohol in his system because he had been in the hospital for a few days before he died. He was an addict and failed several times to quit. It is tragic and sad but the truth is his addiction killed him.

Carmel de Bertaut You are correct about that. In the video posted titled 'The Final Days of Andy Gibb,'.. his mother Barbara talks about Andy phoning the little liquor store there in Thame, at 2 o'clock in the morning to try and get liquor. And Robin saying that Andy was so intoxicated he was crashing into walls and hurting himself, and not even aware of anything anymore. So very, very sad. Poor Andy had to be absolutely miserable towards the end.

I truly enjoyed this interview. Andy looked healthy, he had gained weight and was in a good place.
He couldn't deny anything she asked him. His life was an open book. The tabloids were relentless and exposed everything.
It seemed Victoria wasn't to blame, from what I've been reading lately. However, hearing Andy talk about how she walked away and didn't look back, she truly did hurt him.
I've been there and done that. It feels like something inside you dies and your self worth takes an enormous battering. This explains quite a lot.
      Poor sweet Andy.
He was ill-equipped to cope with the success of his amazing talent.

Andy was a lovely young man in many ways....however, he seemed very sensitive and insecure, and maybe he sought relief thru the drugs. It turned out to be a *fatal* choice for Andy. He became very addicted, and it first destroyed his life.. and then took it!....Yes, I know he died 'clean' ...but the damage had been done from the years of drug abuse. HOW SAD!!.... Sure wish things could have turned out different for this beautiful young man.

He was such a gentle and deeply sensitive soul; an archetype Pisces. I wasn't surprised when I learned he was born under that sign. They have a tendency to be dreamers, often with a wild, escapist side that expresses through drugs and substance abuse. That sensitivity really shone through, in his song-writing and performer, and was part of his innate gift and appeal. Such a beautiful guy, and I love his openness and honesty here.

beautiful he didn't even love himself the more victoria!!! he was attached to her because he thought his happiness depended on her. I saw love myself from a couple who have been married for 30 years. he's not that innocent, i don't want to think he used fans to get fame. he made them think that one day they would have a chance with him. but he wanted ibope, money, someone to buy his records. he lied to those poor girls, abandoned his pregnant wife to enjoy Hollywood's fame and ended up alone broke and loveless. what was the use of all this!! huh??!! And worst of all, I love him rather than hate him. My heart beats to a different beat when I see him.

He broke many hearts but the only one who really broke his was Victoria and he couldn't seem to move past it. Victoria did act very weird about their breakup. He seemed way more into her than she was into him. When he died then she seemed to be much more emotional that she was before so you wonder if it was fake to look better. Andy was extremely honest in interviews and vulnerable which was something that allowed him to be hurt. A troubled soul, very talented.

That being said, no1 knows how or when we are going to die, just that we are. Did ARG make mistakes? YES. However, individuals such as VP CONTRIBUTED SIGNIFICANTLY to his decline & subsequent demise. I have seen this before and I may have commented before but this interview is so sad/touching. Andy loved his family but I think he was overwhelmed by them. I think his whole life is the story of a sensitive person being overwhelmed by their family, success too early (due to his family's help), wealth too early, entirely too much cocaine & alcohol for too long, etc. Andy overshared when he talked about himself, in my opinion. This is something "subjugated" people do. I know that is a harsh word but I couldn't think of a milder one. It is like he never learned to have a "self" that you keep to yourself, especially the line between he and his brothers - its like he didn't know where he ended and they started. He never had a chance to develop any coping skills or a core identity. It seems that drugs where his only coping mechanism. It is a shame that he couldn't make things work with his first wife and child but again....he was so young and immature, only 19. Being the youngest in a family of very powerful brothers who can "make you or break you" and who have so much influence and control over your life can be crushing, I would think. Even if they meant well. Looking back objectively it seems that a successful marriage / life with his wife and daughter, would have been his best opportunity to become a whole person - make his own family while enjoying his siblings from a "safe" distance. Its just sad.

This interview is very telling for me. Andy is clearly still recovering from his personal issues, and as he is answering the questions you can tell he is struggling not to break down and cry. People may not realise, but this interview was filmed after his stay at Betty Ford Clinic in 1985 - the very year Victoria Principal Marries Harry Glassman. I have watched interviews Andy had himself given before this relapse, and it has to be said Andy was showing signs of getting his act together and appearing to be moving on with his life. Seeing Victoria Married to someone else would have crushed him, both mentally and physically.
I believe Victoria's Marriage to Harry would not only have been a slap in the face for Andy, but all the emotional scars would have reopened all over again. While his parents have always vehemently denied Victoria was no longer an issue by that time, I don't think they ever appreciated or understood just how much Andy was in love with her - according to his final interview with People Magazine in 1987, Andy mentions how he and Victoria were so close to marrying several times and for him to see she had done just that, with the man she was next in a relationship with, would have been soul destroying.
There has been speculation Victoria left Andy for Harry, and even if she didn't, it still would have been a difficult time for Andy - since Victoria, Andy didn't appear ready or able to move on, and until his death, I don't think he ever did. In his own words, Andy admits to having other women in his life, but they were never serious and he wanted it that way. That to me was the most telling thing of all - he felt he couldn't function in a serious relationship, all the while his own daughter was in Australia and he didn't try to put the effort in for her. Peta is a humble and beautiful woman who has been through so much without her Father - I just wish Andy had made as much of an effort for Peta as he had done for Victoria.....

@@dhurley8522 Thank you for your reply. I agree with your comments, and I still get moments of sadness watching these old clips with Andy. I am still surprised after all he had been through, he couldn't keep it together for his daughter. As much as we all talk about Victoria Principal, the fact is Andy didn't make Peta a priority. There seems to be some who make comments here on UA-cam about Andy's issues being everybody else's fault bar Andy's.
I have watched the VH1 Behind the Music documentary on Andy, and I was impressed with how Andy's ex wife Kim, and Peta, both handled themselves - that wouldn't have been an easy interview to give, and hearing Kim say Andy didn't contact her after Peta was born - his assistant did, to find out if she had given birth to a girl or a boy, showed a big failing for Andy right there. Kim was left with many broken promises by Andy, and while I have read some comments blaming Kim and her family for not allowing Andy contact with Peta, I have to be honest and say if I was in her situation, with no financial or emotional support from Andy, knowing he didn't prioritise them, yet he found time to prioritise buying drugs, cars, boats, and living a lavish lifestyle, knowing what he left behind - I would have done exactly the same thing.
Let us all be real, in his prime, for a good three or four years, Andy was earning millions of dollars a year, and Kim was back in Sydney raising Peta as a single parent with no financial help from Andy. I think Andy and to an extent, The Gibb Family, had blinders on - Barry, Robin and Maurice all had families, just like Andy, and they made sure Family always came first, yet when they gave interviews after Andy passed there wasn't any mention of the family he left in the shadows.
In saying that, I have seen where the Gibb Family, in particular Barry and Maurice's daughter Samantha, keep in regular contact with Peta, and she is now being included in Gibb Family projects. Andy's life, while a tale of sadness, lost love, and depression, needs to be recognised for also being a man who couldn't handle everyday life - but I also recognise Andy was luckier than most, he had his Family, who could afford to continually encourage and support him - there is so many in this world like Andy, but they don't have the financial means, love or support that he had.
Andy's stardom came at such a large cost, and one can only wonder if he ever truly saw how lucky he was to have Kim and Peta - they clearly stayed grounded, and that, to me, is what Andy needed most.

@@alanalightfoot1514 I think Barbara and Hugh Gibb babied Andy.. they didn’t encourage him to grow up ! He left school at 13 years old to go and perform. They coddled Andy, and you’re right he couldn’t handle everyday life.. how could he have possibly been a father to Peta. It’s a well known fact that Victoria used men for success. She eluded to that fact herself in a Barbara Walters interview that’s on UA-cam. She saw that Andy was truly an immature mess..and cast him aside.. rather than circling the wagons with the Gibb family to get him into rehab. If she truly loved him and cared she would have done anything possible to help him, not as a lover but a friend ! Shame on her! You’re right a lot of people are at fault here, but most of all Andy!

I don't say this just as a 'belief' - I had a life-after-death experience where I went to heaven and during a few moments there God allowed me to hear the thoughts of people on earth. SO...it's kind of foolish to speak ill of the 'dead'. Andy, that sweet soul, is in heaven, young and more beautiful than ever - and those of us who get there will see him again someday.
