I'm a big fan of the series and sometimes run into Drew into TBP and the speedrun discord. He is a lovely person and I am so glad to see him covering this. If anyone is curious you too can play some of the cancelled content (but not to the extend Dress played as I presume he is playing the most up-to-date cut content recovered and put online by various people keeping tabs on any and all cut content being slowly recovered and put out). I own "Twisted Metal: Head On Extra Twisted Edition" for the PS2. It comes with "Twisted Metal Lost" which is a slightly different collection of cut content deliberately packed by the developers to be put out for people to play as apart of an official game. What Dress is playing in the video is stuff put out by fans who are collecting and recovering various builds of the game and other misc cut content. If you're not tech savy and interested in experiencing this I'd recommend picking up "Twisted Metal: Head On Extra Twisted Edition" for those that just wanna play the cut content without the fuss, but in my opinion it's worth the time and energy to go out and play the content for yourself although I feel Dress does a great job in this video of showcasing all the neat cut content.

I wonder how "intensive" it would be to get this game to be nearly fully functional. Obviously on foot/Sweet Tooth story side would not be easy or really in demand to finish. But finishing the car combat aspect of the game is something I would love to see fans do. Just getting the environments, car models, animations, hit detection, and other rough edges smoothed out would be something I think fans could possibly take crack at. We can only hope some talented fans do it.
My guess is that Sony wanted to support the PSP instead. They needed a high profile game to sell PSPs in the NTSC region. This game had to be sacrificed unfortunately.

I still think there's a way that something like Harbor City could be successful today. But I can see why this game was left aside. Despite being so far in development, it’s clear the game didn't know what it wanted to be.

I think the concept of "Open World Twisted Metal" is fully realized in Roadkill (the game, not the character). But finally seeing what COULD have been it's pretty awe-inspiring.
It's fun to spot textures re-used from War of the Monsters. The Cafe sign and Orthello sign are just two of many. I believe the volcano in the carnival level also re-uses the volcano textures from WOTM's Club Caldera arena, which also contains a giant volcano.
That makes sense. I wondered why there weren’t more reused assets from Black, but they actually recycled a bunch of War of the Monsters stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Instead they kinda stealth released twisted metal 1&2 on ps4 and 5. They're solid ports from what I've seen, but I'm not sure what the framerate is. Only reason I'd buy is if it was at least a solid 30 or 40 fps
To be honest, I would've preferred this game over Head On. Some of the levels were very creative and it's a shame they never got to see the light of day, especially the Blackfield Mall/"Goth" level. I also thought some of the bios featured in TM: Lost had some very interesting story concepts, despite most likely just being made up by David Jaffe. Still, it makes me wonder what the initial stories were, though I do like the idea of John Doe being cloned or Mr. Grimm going completely insane and actually thinking he's The Grimm Reaper. Those are pretty awesome. Also, I love the TMHC logo you used in the thumbnail. It almost looks like the logo I made for my upcoming Harbor City Stories project, though I'm probably mistaken (it's cool if it is though). Still, I can imagine combining the assets from Head On, Lost, and this build of Harbor City and we'd pretty much have the ultimate Twisted Metal game on our hands. But I know it would take a lot of time and effort to pull it off, but still. I could only imagine. It was fun watching you play this cancelled gem of a video game. Sucks that they cancelled it.

I really do feel like as a community we could come together and put the final 25% onto twisted metal Harbor City. It would really tell the developers that hey we want new twisted metal games.
I think that the playthrough should've taken on a midnight club/need for speed mist wanted story line where you were a good battler but you lost last year's match and have too start over and build your vehicle up. You could do that by beating different rivals until the main characters and yourself are selected for the final tournament match tip determine the winner and you can have story lines for a few cars so that there's room for a sequel etc. With that the game itself would have more depth and it'll have a longer playthrough time. Idk just a though 😅
Ghetto is not a slang term, it's been a word since the 1930s with a dictionary definition although the meaning of the word has changed since then to fit with what we consider ghettos today. It isn't a disparaging term either, it's just truthful of what those places are especially when you know the original definition and how it originated

the loading screens integrated is really fun! tony hawks american wasteland had this. you would occasionally get small few second loading laggs, but overall, it was really cool and seemless. we made jokes about them just adding the loading screens as the lagg moments, but looking back on it, it felt awesome.
I remember 12 pack. His special is insane handles great . it'slike roadkill or crazy 8. Plus , darkside special getting a side slam bonus damage could take bring down almost everyone health deep into the yellow bar. Roadkill got buffed in his special in this game. I'm trying to remember of it was the special edition on 2012 tw or the black special edition you could play a few levels.. what was funny, they said in the game. Before you start the sweet tooth run out of jail, you can't die in the game at all. Plus, sweet tooth gold could kill any car if got all missiles hit bonus.
In 2012 Roadkill's Special was a Chaingun or mines, they're not really that good and as a vehicle the chaingun is basically just a reskin of Deathwarant's special and the Mines are kinda useless in my use
There was a live service twisted metal that was announced but unfortunately scrapped due to the studio that was working on it being shut down as part of sony’s company wide layoffs a few months back. We could only speculate and theorize how the game could’ve functioned as a live service.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of racing games, but I liked Twisted Metals universe. If they had more onfoot combat segments and sandbox for the story, I'd enjoy this game. I like the new ideas they were experimenting with here.
Twisted Metal is SONY’s most disrespected franchise. I wish Rockstar would buy it out and make a definitive MMO Twisted Metal while also buying the license or at least naming rights to Carmageddon and simply name the game TWISTED METAL: Carmageddon! where the players could populate 16-32 player servers and either play the created cars and characters or mainstay characters and vehicles from the franchises rich history.
I think it was never established when Harbor City fell in the lore of Twisted Metal. I know that Black was supposed to take place 4 years before the original Twisted Metal (1995). I always imagined it was right before the events in Black which took place in 2001. Just by how you were some reason in the asylum, but also already had your signature car when you break out. So maybe I can see the year 2000 on things meaning that.

I played a bit of Roadkill and it’s not bad, but it doesn’t have the same feel as TM imo.
Roadkill is a Solid game but the Gameplay is pretty straight forward except for maybe being able to Snipe Drivers/Wingmen

Really hoping we get something new outta Twisted Metal soon. The show was a success, we need a new game.

In my own opinion i like Head-On. But it would be neat to see both HO and HC exist simultaneously instead of one over the other.

I think the reason Slam is here, is because the final build of Harbor City was in the transition phase of becoming Head On.
