Ok very cute video, and I even recognized some close horse lady friends! I know a lady that rode her whole life into her 80th decade. Here's hoping that will be us! I am 52, and my favorite riding buddies are 14! Stay young at heart.
@@harveyib114 Geez, I didn't realize he was that old. How is that even possible? I was watching him in Star Trek when he was young. 😳 I mean, they were reruns, but still!
My horse (not technically mine, but she might as well be - I've been riding and training her for 10 years, and she's utterly convinced that she's mine, and I'm hoping to buy her soon) was so ridiculously rusty with so many things (that she was perfect with before she left) after she came back from being on loan to a school for about 6 weeks for beginners to do some make-up work, that the last few weeks, I've been repeating that over and over to myself/my horse - "What the *_heck_* did they do to you, girl?" I know that that school teaches some things a little differently, but she was *_FAR_* rustier after those 6 weeks than she was from not being ridden by anyone except really little kids in the corral the 6 weeks that I was gone for last Christmas.
Hahaha! I came back to riding 4 years ago at 53. I ride with my friends who range from 67 to 80 and this was so dead on! 🤣🤣🤣 Just yesterday my 80 year old friend and I were practicing ground mounting and it should be on video! Funny though, we often or usually ride bareback...it's not that we're great, girths just get trickier and it's just quicker. We need to save our strength to ride! 🤣
So true. My daughter and I share a horse it went from “maybe you can ride my horse, sweetie” to “I borrow my daughter’s horse from time to time”. We got a 15 year old experienced horse because I got tired of getting bucked off and breaking bones. Now I call the barn and ask if somebody can ride the horse on my days off so he doesn’t have too much energy when I ride him. I am that old rider!
I am a young equestrian, but I can relate to the old equestrian stuff. I am unable to mount a horse bareback unless I have a mounting block or a leg up🤣, but I love riding bareback!
This lady always makes me laugh! How many times do you head to the stables all excited to ride, only to open the tack locker and stand there a minute and then say, I’ll just groom him today and ride tomorrow!
I love these are SO on point! Can you make a equestrian stereotypes? And add this, so sometimes a horse will turn way into a bush or something and my dad will say "turn turn turn!!! " it's so hard as you might know, horses are about 1000 or more pounds and everybody says turn like it's easy🙄😮💨
I remember being young and willing to do anything. And totally without any sense of self-preservation. Now I'm older and wondering how younger me survived to adulthood. Yeah, 10yr old me taking a 17hh runaway TB bareback was probably not one of my better ideas...
It's a Fulmer snaffle (aka Full Cheek). I've seen in other videos that it's double-jointed, probably the Happy Mouth one. Fulmers can't be pulled through the mouth, so they're great for horses that can be difficult to turn, or that are a bit more nervous with the bit, as it sits stiller in the mouth (the position is fixed thanks to the shanks). I also have a double-jointed Fulmer
@@jayATUK A Fulmer is not the same as an ordinary full cheek. A Fulmer has a loose ring attached at the outside of the cheek. An ordinary full cheek is either an eggbutt (most common), or occasionally a dee ring attached directly to the cheek.
I've been thinking the exact same thing about my horse the last few weeks (not technically mine, but I'm the one who's been riding and training her for the last 10 years, and she treats me like she's mine, so she might as well be) - she was super rusty on so many things that she was perfect at before she left (she was on loan for about 6 weeks to a school for some beginners to do some make-up work), and now she's spooking all over the place (she nearly threw me on Wednesday when she spooked bigger than she has in over 9 years) when she used to pretty much never spook (she's a parade horse, and my town goes all out for that parade, so she has to be super solid) - I think she picked up the spookiness from the other horses she was around because all the other horses at that school are extremely high strung, even though she's an Arab and they're all AQHs, so I'm hoping it will wear off with time, and it *_better_* wear off before this year's parade. I'm having to retrain things that took 2 years for her to learn (like never eating when being handled/ridden unless specifically offered something), and I'm not amused about it one bit, which is one of the big reasons I'm hoping to be able to buy her soon, so that I can dictate who is and isn't allowed to ride her, which will allow me to monitor and supervise all of her training.
Hahaha, the mounting block is so me! When I was in my 20s I had a 16 hand standardbred that I mounted from the ground. Now I have a cobb sized mule and I never mount her from the ground.
@@horseygurl143 I'm perfectly fine actually, my mom always rides western, and since I was riding enlish, she was genuinely surprised I didn't get my foot caught in the stirrup, as though you always will. I am glad she was looking out for me though. And my pony stopped immediately when I fell off, as though she was sorry and making sure I was fine, which was strange for her. Usually she's like "I'm freeee!!! btw thanks for your concern!!
I am definitely an old rider, lol I wish I had had the chance to enjoy Captain as a teen though! He would have been so much fun. Now we just get to be old and lazy together.
Video Request: How to sit the canter but for western, I would appreciate. I watched your original video and it was helpful but it didn't really apply to me because I ride a different style
Question:When your ride your horse, canter or trot, are you gripping with your knees, holding them a little bit tight or just letting them really relaxed and let your hips work?I just can’t get this right😭
Thankfully my trainer while she is much younger than me has “old equestrian” aches and pains. She never bats an eye when I tell her I need the stairs to mount cause I hurt too much. 🤣 I don’t have the kids part but everything else is true
Aw I loved this! I definitely know both of those riders and feel like I lie somewhere in between. I’ll hop on my young/ problem horses in training but I definitely do not mind riding the broke safe ones 😆
Haha I just started riding at 54 and I am a little bit of both of those, but more like the old lady 😂 I do like to get out and ride as much as I can tho.
Can you do equestrian streotypes? And sometimes I feel like western riders a lot of the time say that English riders are all really mean! I know they can be mean but not all the time!😥😔😕🙃

William Shatner is 91 and still rides.
@@harveyib114 really? i had no idea he was that old. now I feel old even though I'm in middle school.
Same here! My instructor was a judge/instructor/examiner and was in her 80s still riding while judging as well as for pleasure, amazing lady!

So refreshing some basic lessons was helpful
Way to go

The fact that it is VERY realistic!!🤣😆
🤣🤣 Totally accurate, and hilarious.
You are so underrated, I am so happy I found you

At my middle school my math teacher has horses, so that's something we have in common. This kinda reminds me of this.
The cantering around to get them happy agin is spot on
Do you use a happy mouth bit? I see it’s a full cheek( jointed or double or Mullen or French link or Bristol?)

As for me being a young rider I can truly relate to thinking you are the best in the group and you're actually the worst😅😂😃
So funny that she thinks 38 or 40 is old! 🤣
*When you're a mid-teen, and you relate more to the old equestrian than the young one..*
I relate more to the old equestrian and I'm 14..😅
nice video
This video is true
This is pretty good. However I don’t know ONE young rider who can mount with a mounting block
No need to risk it
