Hey, Thanks for the demonstration, I used this to guide me in my first successful attempt to hobnail my 18th century buckled shoes. They look and feel awesome. It's so great to have hard working, creative people sharing their work with others! Your efforts make a positive impact! Though, my girlfriend was confused when a strange iron foot-like sculpture arrived on the mail. It makes a nice curio/ discussion piece, I think...:)
"LIKED" the demonstration ... I'm sure you could convert the hobnailing into a fundraiser at the larger re-enacting - get your brogens hobnailed while you wait.
The Captain can keep pretty busy sometimes hobnailing at events at it does raise a few dollars for the company. I bet if you really got into it it would be a great fundraiser.

What advice could you give on re-hobnailing them? I bought a used pair. Some nails are missing and some need to be pulled an new ones put in. Might not even be possible.
Would have to be resoled. When I was younger and not so glowing with extra money I used to pull the worn out ones and just put new ones in with super glue or just do that method to old ones and they never held more than 100 feet at an event. Learned from a local cobbler where I live that getting them resoled was the only way to ensure they didnt fall off/out.
I'm kind of late to the party, but, is one able to put new hobnails in the soles after the old ones have either broken or fallen out? Of do you need a new leather outsole as well? I ask because you'd think the holes would be worn out.
Not late to the party at all Jim! With hobnails once they wear out , fall out or in more reality are town out you would need to resole the pieces of footwear. The hole would be larger than the shank of the nail especially if it was torn out by use on hard ground. Personally before I learned or new better on how to properly set hobnails in I would put new nails in old holes and wondered why they would fall out and soon realized what was happening. @@CompanyD2ndUSSS Great thanks. I didn't pay a lot for these. They are Missouri Boot so I know they are worth a resoling if it isn't too much.
