I think there are 2 reasons why we love and respect cows
1. Cow provides milk that's why we compare them with our mother and call them mata (mother in hindi).

Not second mother. Its because we believe god in everything which gives. Cow - Give milk and its son Ox was used to sow field. Then even after dying - The skin of cow is used to make leather. Cow is so pure and suffer in silence and doesnt hurt anyone. River - Gives water the most essential thing in the world. So in our literature we believe god goddess in them. As a Hindu, Eating any animal is restricted as they have souls too but Hindu as a religion isnt as rigid as muslims and doesnt bind people to do religious activities. You as a hindu can go to church and pray to jesus on a daily basis while never going to temple and nobody would say anything.
