I'm grateful for the commenters who posted the ingredient list. I was headed to the grocery store right now & didn't have time to be playing/pausing video.
Love this one so much!!!! Here’s my writing of ingredients & instructions. I may have missed things so anyone feel free to edit/correct it ☺️ 4-8 cups water 1 Tbs of OG 3 in of charizzo 1 hotdog Bacon 1/2 onion 1 whole tomato 1 whole Serrano 1 whole jalapeño 1/4 cup of tomato sauce 1 Tbs of butter First place bag of pinto beans (smaller one) in pot of 4 cups water (after rinsing beans thoroughly) bring to boil them simmer low covered Add 1 Tbs OG Cut bacon, hotdog and charizzo in separate frying pan with onion; prep Serrano by poking a couple of holes Cut tomato, poke hole in jalapeño; 2-3 cloves garlic Stir and brown bacon a bit prior to adding charizzo and hotdog. Add onion. Add garlic once onions are done along with Serrano pepper. Add tomato and let sit on low while beans cook. Cook beans for hr and a half, checking for need for more water, before adding bacon veggie mix plus jalapeño, 1 Tbs butter and 1/4 cup tomato sauce Add cilantro and cook for 15-20 min. Cool with lid for at least 30 min for total of 2 and a half hours. Add salt or OG maybe 1 tsp, if tastes necessary. Cool 15 more min if needed
Linda Baughman I’m assuming it was 2 cups because there’s a part towards the beginning of the video where he says 8 cups of water to 2 cups of beans with a tablespoon of OG. Since he only adds 1 tablespoon of OG in this video I’d say it’s safe to assume he used 2 cups. I could be mistaken though but I’m gonna make this today and use 2 cups. The part in the video is at 1:25. Oh and the beans are pinto beans.
One more thing. You didn’t include the salt pork. I just made this for dinner tonight and I added 4 strips of salt pork with 3 strips of bacon. Your breakdown of the video was spot on April! This was all I saw that you missed. Other than that it was perfection! They were yummy and delicious! If you can’t find the salt pork that’s already sliced like I couldn’t…I cut the slices about 1/8 inch thick and diced them up smaller as in the video. It helps if you put your bacon and salt pork In The freezer for 45min to 1hr first because this firms the meat up and makes it easier to cut into thin slices as room temp bacon and salt pork is too slippery to cut warm. I’ve learned the hard way lol.
So, I just watched your mom make Mexican rice and had to find this recipe since you mentioned charro beans. I knew there was a reason I purchased 8 lbs of pinto beans last week (seriously)... I just told someone the other day, with food prices rising... I am so glad that, culturally (African-American), I grew up eating what people are now calling 'budget meals'... I'm thinking we were never on a food budget growing up, my family just knew good food - My grandmother would feed a gang of grandkids with a pot of chicken and dumplings or beans and cornbread... We never begged for restaurant food 😁 On another note, Mexican cooking is so magical and life would totally suck without this incredible cuisine. Please keep sharing (and thank you)!
I'm white, grew up eating the same types of things--pretty sure that's not unique to black culture.. Maybe our differences aren't as great as you think they are?
I'm from Southeastern New Mexico ... About a mile from Texas and a hundred from El Paso !!! You teach the cooking the right way Thank you for the recipes !!! 👍👍👍
I looked up "Mexican rice recipe" and found your video with your mom. 40 min later I've watched your video on fajitas, charro beans, and tamales. Now I'm going to the store to make some beans and rice because my mouth is watering so much lol! I grew up in TX and miss good mexican food. Can't wait to try it and thank you for sharing!!
Thank you for sharing your recipe. My tween son did all the hard work. I just told him what to do and supervised for safety. I'm making fond memories and helping him grow into an independent adult.
You don’t know how to write shit down or listen ?? Literally the first 40 seconds is him telling you the exact recipe and amounts just hit pause and write it down I know that’s a lot to ask of humans nowadays but I know you can do it
Bonus points for making the entire house smell like a pot of beans! My Grandma/Abuela on my Dad's side ALWAYS had a pot of beans going in the kitchen and made fresh corn tortillas every morning. I think it's one of the earliest smells burned into my brain. To this day if I walk into a house that smells like that, I know I entered a home, not just a house.
This is my first time ever making charro beans, in fact it’s my first time making beans at home from scratch out the bag. Thank you for your video I have learned so much.
Made this for my girlfriend (she is from very close to where you live) and she LOVED them! I changed it a bit by adding chicken bouillon (I’m sucker for it). But I love this sooooo much and my girl loves it! We live in hawaii and she loves it since she is away!
Your mother's yellow rice recipe was such a hit with my family, and now that I've got beans to cook, these are on my to-do list next. You're a great teacher, thank you so much!
Thank You, Mama y Mijo! Refreshing to not hear vulgarity. So good to witness the mutual love and respect of a good mother and son, not to mention the great cuisine. Just like our Blessed Mother and Son, Jesus. God Bless You. Vivo Cristo Rey!
As a retired trucker my favorite meal on the road was always charro beans from one of the many street vendors in Mexico I would come across while hauling produce. Just can't find good charro beans up here in Michigan so I will definitely be trying this out. That broth works wonders on a cold winters night.
I have made every type of bean, but I finally tried pinto beans, twice now, using your recipe. They were sooo good! And I did just listen to the video and paused for the ingredients:) I did make a few substitutions, I'm not a fan of weiners and I am picky about my chorizzo so I just used my favorite smoked sausage and bacon, the second time I used smoked pork neck bones. The butter really set it off, I didn't have butter the second time so I used chicken broth. I also added some comino and dried Mexican oregano as I always do when cooking beans. I am currently cooking this now, I make pinto beans and your mother's Mexican Spanish Rice (the 1st time I ever cooked Spanish Rice correctly, bless her) whenever I make fried tacos now. I don't have any smoked meats, sausage or bacon today, so I am using a bit of ground beef to add to the pinto beans for flavor. Thanks for this recipe!
after watching this carefully several times, I gathered all the ingredients and followed all the steps… there are no words to accurately describe how off-the-charts amazing the flavor of this Charro soup is. I can’t believe I pulled it off! PERFECT 🎉 thanks verrrrry verrrry much❤
MR TEX!!! I made the charros for a church gathering and all I came home with was an empty pot! BEST CHARRO BEANS EVER SEÑOR!!! So these charros and your Mami's arroz...WINNERS!!!
Arnie, I made these beans for my family 2 months back. Everyone was afraid to try them because they had never had charro beans before. Once they tasted them they ate the entire pot. They left nothing behind. All the juice was soaked up with cornbread.
The bean juice is the best part. Even with just regular pintos, no juice shall be left behind. My grandma puts oxtails in our beans, which is my favorite.
We love beans so much. We have it 3 times a month either with salt pork, beef bones, ground beef, if we have Bison meat. Mmmm. When beans are done we usually smash some to sorta make gravy. JaRita
I have made a similar recipe for years. I soak my pinto beans overnight and then rinse in the morning. I saute some diced onion, bell peppers with bacon, adding garlic at the end, in my instant pot. Then add some chorizo and two chipolte peppers in adobo. I season it with paprika, thyme and Slap Ya Mama seasoning. I add some garlic broth made with Better than Bullion (Garlic) and put the lid on the instant pot and set timer for 20 minutes. (I don't have the patience to wait two and a half hours for dinner. I commend you.) Next time I make this I am going to serve it with your mom's yellow rice. Thank you for sharing your family recipies. I love to see what other folks are doing in their kitchens. I just remembered that I have some shredded chicken in the frige that I need to use up. I am going to add this and try your pinto bean recipe to replace the hotdogs--and serve it with your Mama's rice for the game tomorrow. Go Gators!
This is a great recipe. A lot of the charro bean recipes put the beans at the back of the flavor mix. This one lets it shine, as it should. Awesome. Thank you.
I’m going to attempt to make these this Saturday. We’re having a family get together. I hope they come out as good as yours. I can’t taste it but just watching you and your beautiful mother enjoy it makes me hungry!
A pot of gold is what you got there sir! My mouth was watering as I watched this video. Thanks you for sharing, and momma lucky, she has a chef in the family.
Arnie Love all your recipes and I especially love when your mother is included in the videos ! What a sweet lady and I'm sure she taught you most everything you need to know about cooking. Keep up the great videos, you are like family !!
I worked at a salon in upstate New York and there was a Mexican restaurant next door. I always ordered ‘frijoles a la charra’… It’s this! Except, not nearly this fancy. Thank you so much for this video! I’ll be making this! ❤
I just made these beans absolutely delicious....i add some celery 1 stick chopped up i don't know if it made it better but I was thinking like being in Louisiana and Mississippi they put it in everything it was good...in Texas today just wanted to show love to the king of BBQ...🤠🤠🤠
Arnie! Hey brother your cooking is Devine. I watched your videos. Thank you for putting the passion and heart into your cooking. I loved everything you posted. You are the chef of Texas. Love love having you put your culture into your dishes. You need your own show on the cooking network. I support you and your family recipes! Loved your moms Spanish rice recipe.
Hey bud. I made these beans tonight and let me just say thank you. My wife has been craving charro beans since we left Texas. These were my first attempt and the were awesome. I didn’t use a hot dog but used fresh jalapeño. Looking forward to trying the rice.
Nice video, looks tasty - will definitely have to try! One thing, seeds in peppers contain no capsaicin (no heat) Leaving them in or taking them out will make no difference in heat. I take them out because they just taste bad. The heat is in the pith and capsaicin glands, not the seeds.
I made this but used smoked sausage instead of hotdogs. It came out AMAZING! You know its going to be delicious when its only been cooking for 5 minutes and it smells so good.
I watched this video twice and picked up on a couple of tips including bean boiling I hadn't realized. Thanks for the recipes and info. You and Kent Rollins both rock. By the way, I love your mom. She's awesome.
Hi there! I just made these charro beans yesterday as a side for our bbq, and they were a hit with my little family! Both my mom and dad said they tasted, looked, and smelled amazing! This will be my go to recipe from now on. Thank you for such a great recipe!
Thanks so much for making this video and the Spanish Rice one. I absolutely love Charro Beans but believed I would never be able to make them myself. That has changed now. Your instructions were so complete and descriptive that even this white-boy may have a chance at doing this. I'm really looking forward to trying this at home. Also, I never knew Charro was Cowboy. I always thought of Vaquero, but I guess like most languages, there's more than one way to describe something. Thanks again for this!
@@secretsquirrel5566 A Vaquero is a cowboy think cattlemen and cattle drives. A charro is a horseman, think horse trainer/work and rodeos with the traditional dress of of the charro sombrero and silver plated button snaps.
My grandma's been making these beans for my family my and my mom's whole lives. Beans, rice, an egg? Thats a nice easy breakfast. I wish i had that grandma touch to get that special flavor. Nothing else like it.
I had charro beans for the first time yesterday at a restaurant and they were CRAZY good. Then this video just happened to pop up on my suggested videos. I’m not only going to make these but as a bbq fanatic I’m frustrated I didn’t know about this channel sooner. I guess it’s better late than never to be a subscriber.
I have made these twice now, they are the best beans I’ve ever eaten, don’t forget the chorizo, it is absolutely necessary! I also add one or two chipotles in adobo sauce to bring out more smoky flavor… I grew up in the south and we ate allot of beans for dinner but, I must hand it to the Mexicans, They Win!
Looks delicious! I may try this using some of the leftover Christmas ham during the next week. The beauty of dishes like this is how flexible you can be with the ingredients.
Exactly. Ham would be perfect as well. I have used smoked sausage instead of hot dogs, because that is what I had on hand and needed to be used. Delicious.
Arnie, I made these beans yesterday and they turned out fantastic! These will be a new staple in my house. Thank you very much for sharing this recipe. Also your Mom is great 👍
Old mexian lady gave me a recipe for beans like this - I was doing an inspection on her house - and she had the HUGE pot of beans on the stove (which I had to move to test the stove for carbon Monoxide) it smelled so good, and I mentioned just how wonderful it smelled - well, you tell Abuella her food smells good... she's gonna feed you (not my intent, we werent supposed to eat client's food or take gifts) not wanting to be rude I took the bowl of beans and hand made tortillas she handed to me and... OMG BEST.BEANS. EVER epic lunch. And I of course told her how awesome they were. And she started to fill a beat up old Tupperware and I said, no not right to take her food, and bowl with me. She looked disappointed. And I said... if you write down how you make this... I'll make them myself and teach my nieces how to make it. She liked that, and wrote her recipe down (in spanish) bit of a language barrier there - I can speak a little, but I can't read it worth a damn. And I had a Hispanic co-worker translate it for me. He goes... oh, this is for charro beans... and then says wow, this is a fantastic recipe - can I take a copy? I didn't even know charro beans were a thing. I still make them a couple of times a year... and I showed ny brother's girls how to make em' as promised (I have no children) Makes any kind of stewed beans look like dogfood in comparison. The old lady's recipe doubled up on the chorizo and bacon, no salt pork, no hot dog and no butter (there is a big dollop of lard involved) And 2 bottles of Negro Modelo. Otherwise, it's pretty similar to this recipe.
I am going to try this recipe. I grew up on Mexican food including the best charro beans but my mom's been gone for some years now and of course I miss her cooking. This dish looks so delicious.
Arnie you make me HOME sick. I've been in Memphis for 35 years, retired a genuine Texacan from South Texas. Tex Mex arts are the best! I grew up on Charro beans and tortillas. Your recipe reminds me of me! Thanks for the joy of watching your video!!
As a bonified Mejicano del la calle dos in Waco, Texas I can assure everyone here that a good bowl of beans is every bit as satisfying as a prime grade filet. Deveras !
Update: Have made this three times now and today will be my 4th. Amazing is an understatement. And man, watched ArniTex refried beans video. Oh yeah!! Used these charro beans for that. The best refried beans on the planet. Full stop.
Perfect thing for my long bbq weekend. Thank you kind sir, for sharing your “secrets” with us. It’s recipes like this that take meals with friends and family to the next level! WOW
And here we go!!!! I’ve gathered all the ingredients and it’s time to get cooking. I’ve had these beans before on plenty of oil field locations and loved them every time. I just never knew how or thought to make them myself. I’m gonna give it the old college try and see what happens. I’m sure if I follow your directions closely, they should turn out wonderful. Thanks for the video and the inspiration to get off my butt and try something new!!
I know I'm a little late on this comment but I have to say... I just made these beans and I'll tell you they were the BEST beans IV ever had.... Thank you!!
Just did this recipe and it’s a 100/10 for my first time making beans. Though I didn’t have any chorizo or salt pork I used bacon and sausage for the meats everything else I followed to the T and it’s perfect thank you
Frijoles al Charros are a New Mexico staple. We eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We use a little different ingredients but the result is the same......a very happy stomach. Great job!
Hey Arnie your cherry beans are looking just fine I make a couple of different things on it but I use long green chili strips in a little barbecue sauce in them and they come out just as great but yours are looking fine thank you bro for sure in the recipe I’m gonna try frank el Paso Texas
I made a pot of beans today but nothing like these. I fell in love with Perauno beans about 25 years ago and haven’t gone back to pinto but these look incredible!

4-8 cups water
1 Tbs of OG
3 in of charizzo
1 hotdog
Bacon
1/2 onion
1 whole tomato
1 whole Serrano
1 whole jalapeño
1/4 cup of tomato sauce
1 Tbs of butter
First place bag of pinto beans (smaller one) in pot of 4 cups water (after rinsing beans thoroughly) bring to boil them simmer low covered
Add 1 Tbs OG
Cut bacon, hotdog and charizzo in separate frying pan with onion; prep Serrano by poking a couple of holes
Cut tomato, poke hole in jalapeño; 2-3 cloves garlic
Stir and brown bacon a bit prior to adding charizzo and hotdog. Add onion. Add garlic once onions are done along with Serrano pepper. Add tomato and let sit on low while beans cook.
Cook beans for hr and a half, checking for need for more water, before adding bacon veggie mix plus jalapeño, 1 Tbs butter and 1/4 cup tomato sauce
Add cilantro and cook for 15-20 min.
Cool with lid for at least 30 min for total of 2 and a half hours. Add salt or OG maybe 1 tsp, if tastes necessary. Cool 15 more min if needed

Thanks again for this!
Charros are from Mexico, Vaqueros are from South America.
@@TexasScout Wow. Thanks. At least 3/4 of Texas has it wrong! 😀
So enjoy your channel and recipes! You have a warmth and friendliness as you teach your recipe. Thanks so much for sharing.😊
I am glad you share your channel time with your mother. Best to you and keep the cookin' coming!
Welcome friend, lets get fired up!
Delicious.
I 60 now and grew up in central L.A. I'm not Mexican but I know you and your mom's people.
This recipe is amazing!! I just finished the recipe. I am over here drinking and enjoying this recipe.
OMG
BEST.BEANS.
I still make them a couple of times a year... and I showed ny brother's girls how to make em' as promised (I have no children)
Makes any kind of stewed beans look like dogfood in comparison.
The old lady's recipe doubled up on the chorizo and bacon, no salt pork, no hot dog and no butter (there is a big dollop of lard involved)
And 2 bottles of Negro Modelo. Otherwise, it's pretty similar to this recipe.
The Pachangas we used to have in South Texas when I was a young man always consisted of charro beans poured over rice in a cup! Yum yum!
ESTE HOMBRE SABE COCINAR ME GUSTAN LOS INGREDIENTES QUE USA Y CON ESE ARROZ SE AANTOJA LO VOY A HACER ,SENCILLA RECETA GRACIAS POR COMPARTIR.
❤❤❤❤thanks my mom passed away 2 years ago never got the chance to see how she made her famous beans!!❤❤❤❤
This is a recipe that would be good for home canning 🥰
I am going to try this recipe. I grew up on Mexican food including the best charro beans but my mom's been gone for some years now and of course I miss her cooking. This dish looks so delicious.
Wow, Mr Arnie. I just made these and they're awesome! Definitely adding this to our recipes. Thank you for sharing your family recipe.
I just made this last night. Great for breakfast at work. The flavor is awesome. Thanks, I've been wanting to learn a great bean recipe. Viva!
Thank you Arnie for being one of the few highlighting our cultura and our recipes.
Man I love beans. God bless your Mom.
I made this recipe and it turned out so freaking good ! My family loved them, Thank you so much !
Arnie you make me HOME sick. I've been in Memphis for 35 years, retired a genuine Texacan from South Texas. Tex Mex arts are the best! I grew up on Charro beans and tortillas. Your recipe reminds me of me! Thanks for the joy of watching your video!!
El tío Arnie es el mejor sin duda y más por qué comparte todo lo que sabe
As a bonified Mejicano del la calle dos in Waco, Texas I can assure everyone here that a good bowl of beans is every bit as satisfying as a prime grade filet. Deveras !
Best looking pot of beans I’ve ever seen! Definitely going to try your recipe.
I used to live in lubbock tx, now I live in tampa fl they don't have casserole brand beans and I think that is what you are using
Looks amazing .
I don't really like beans, but I'll try this recipe over the summer I think. It seems like a good summer dish!😍
Arnie, I’m gonna make these tomorrow. Thanks for sharing brother👍👍👍😎😎😎
Tried it with the rice, everyone loved it. TY! Btw if you use canned beans add all ingredients and you can cook this in 30-45 min instead.
I made your Charro beans once they’re amazing. Thank you so much.
I know I'm a little late on this comment but I have to say... I just made these beans and I'll tell you they were the BEST beans IV ever had.... Thank you!!
Just did this recipe and it’s a 100/10 for my first time making beans. Though I didn’t have any chorizo or salt pork I used bacon and sausage for the meats everything else I followed to the T and it’s perfect thank you
Where can I buy OG seasoning?
I couldn’t find the OG seasoning but my grocery store had ‘The Blend’ by Kinders and it’s a salt pepper garlic mix that is what I used
@@elisaconfer3216 .
Frijoles al Charros are a New Mexico staple. We eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We use a little different ingredients but the result is the same......a very happy stomach. Great job!
Brother, you never cease to amaze me.
Down-home cooking, just like my jefita used to make. This is for the Raza.
Thank you
You made me smile ,because it looks so good. Bless you all hug the moms
Dude you hit it !and your mom was right about the rice ! 😋
Mama knows best! Was just thinking about corn bread for the juice, but rice will work.
Thank you for highlighting some of our foods Arnie, you're a treasure man!
Thank you brother from Dallas, TX. I’m trying your recipe right now as I’m watching your vid
