You said that if we have both male & female we often default to the male gender (boys & girls = "chicos") . I thought we always do that: are there exceptions?

Good day, first time learning in Spanish when to use El and la in English it's THE Like for example la compirmaccion, the comfirmation in ENGLISH, we can say also el compirmaccion?because what Im thinking is El and LA is the same THE maybe I'm wrong thank you very much for the answer soon.

I always learn something from every lesson, or just get really needed reminders. It's easy to get in a "rut" of always using one word and forgetting other options. (como contento y feliz)
