Hey Rob, I know a lot of people have probably already commented on this, but thank you for sticking to the basics for us man. It really helps to know that there is an instructor out there that always has beginners in mind and is willing to grind it out with us through the first steps. Pocket drumming, basic ghost notes, beginner limb separation, all that stuff dude, it's really cool. I've been playing for about 5 months now and my right leg/right arm is still giving me some grief lol. I can't do what I want to with my right side, yet :)
"ghost notes ain't nothin' but rebound" Bernard Purdie I think one may eventually get to the point where it's almost impossible not to play ghost notes. It's what separates drummers from drum machines and gives the groove some swig and sway
Great call out, Rob, that controlling the playback speed on youtube can be a very helpful tool. Folks should know the keyboard shortcuts are ''. Great for slowing down drum lessons or music, and speeding up boring people.
I got kicked out my band and I’ve been teaching myself everything from the basics as I’m pretty much self taught and your videos are really helping me improve my drumming. Thank you! Once the band want me back I’ll be thanking you again🥁
Thanks Rob, Just what I was looking for as I'm attempting to learn ghost notes right now. How you can provide professional level instruction, downloadable material while having high-end production and still get a downvote is beyond me. People! Slide this guy a few bucks if he has helped your drumming. I've watched a ton of videos and am a patreon member because of it. Rob, keep up the good work!
Thanks, man. Yea, new camera, new lighting. Wanted to transition to 4K this year so I made a couple upgrades. Still trying a few different things 'til I settle on a look I like
Awesome lesson! One of the things I've tried to master but have had a hell of a time getting them down. Also have had some troubles dialing in my snare to have the right feel/ response.
Nice grooves Rob. Could you possibly turn up the microphone on your Bass drum, please. Im finding it tricky with my bsd hearing to discern your kivk groove. Thanks in advance. Guy
Good thing 2start new year out with.Ive been focused on singles and doubles and totally left out the practice of ghost notes.Thoes bad boys are not easy.
This was a big help for me! Thanks Rob ! It's great to see you on Drumeo !!!! I have to say...I'm not digging the new lighting...it's on the harsh side... You're a great teacher and I like your style of teaching.
Thank you for this fun learning tool to help me bring out more dynamics to my stile of drumming. I really appreciate you for what you are doing! Keep it coming
Thanks, man. Yea, still messin around with different lighting vibes along with the new camera upgrade. Might take a couple videos to settle into somethin'
Hi Rob. I like to use drum notation, for the purpose of helping me to remember the patterns or phrasings of songs. I'm 65 and have only been playing the drums for about a year, I have played guitar all my life. I find it hard sometimes to keep all the songs my band plays, in my head, so drum notation is a tool. Are there any software programs that make writing drum notation easy? Love all your vids and I'm wearing my Beatdown t-shirt to practice tonight. :)
i got my first kit delivered today bought it about a month ago i noticed you played the ghost notes with your fingers, i tried to copy you but i think the man on the moon can hear me
The snare is gonna feel different to your practice pad (unless you have one that really does bounce like a snare) You can practice on anything but there's gonna be adjustments to make based on the feel/weight/bounce of your practice surface compared to the snare.
@@mc-omerepatrick3883 Use your regular sticks too, nothing dampening like mallets or "hotrods". I did a lot of practice with the "hotrods" and then sticks felt really strange and out of control.
@@BibleStorm I had that problem a while ago. Had to stop using heavier sticks only during practice and using my favourite wincet sticks on the kit. Now I only stick to my go-to sticks
I can do all these, but i feel so dull and have like no groove why is this ? Its the exact same but for some reason when i play it sounds like it has no groove
i have a real hard time trying to play #5. the second double ghost note is impossible for me to play. it only sounds right while i play my right hand in the air, when i touch the hi-hat it turns into single or triplet. god help!
Yep... ring lights or photo spot lights will clear this right up. You'll need at least four around the perimeter and fith one for background lighting and you'll be all set lol.
Rob seems a little more serious in this hue of lighting. The previous setup was more ‘In The Shed With Rob’. The blue hue lighting is more ‘Pain Is Weakness Leaving The Body’ Rob. Just kidding, it’s all good, progress is good and this is my daily goto channel for fresh new, well instructed, ideas. You do you! 👍
Hey Rob, great video as always but I don't think the 'look' is you in terms of colour grading, you definitely suit a warmer colour temp, this one is waaaay too cold brother, drop those kelvins down ha ha ! :)

It's always good reinforcing those basics. Thanks Rob!

Thanks, man 👊🏾🙂
We need more ghost note grooves. 👍

Too many requests for pdf's. The people have spoken 📣
Thank you thank you thank you Rob 💜🙏🏻
Love the channel brotha. And i have grown the bad habbit of over ghost noting 😬
No lie this channel is the best on youtube keep it up!!
Love what you've done with the lighting!
Great ! My bandmates will love it.... they hate loud drummers.
Gold Dust! love it
Thanks again brother rob brown , For another one of your amazing drums🥁 lesson videos, Enjoy watching you play and teach bro😎, God bless!
Most helpful drumming channel on here. Thank you man.
Groove #4 was GREASY!!! Lovin it sir, lovin it!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. THANK YOU
Am I sensing a camera upgrade? Also, The new lighting is great
Thanks, man. Yea, new camera, new lighting. Wanted to transition to 4K this year so I made a couple upgrades. Still trying a few different things 'til I settle on a look I like
I noticed the same. I thought it would be smart for me to check the comments before asking lol. Great video man!
I'm loving it sir
This is cool. Left hand mojo from a great dude. The first video I saw of Rob's he said he had bacon today and was ready to rock.
Happy to see you doing what you love. Success is always a bonus. Glad you have both.
Thanks Rob
I love this channel. Thanks Rob!!
Awesome lesson! One of the things I've tried to master but have had a hell of a time getting them down. Also have had some troubles dialing in my snare to have the right feel/ response.
Towards the end, you had me feeling some Clyde and Jabo..... nice stuff Rob! Thanks and Blessings!
Nice! Groove #2 was the first one I ever learned as a kid. It's a good gateway groove for playing ghost notes.
Good to see you back using trad grip 👍😎
5 my favorite
Great groove using the ghost notes....by the way...I love the
A&F snare drum🤘🏻
Nice set-up
Always great stuff Rob!
Thanks Rob, you are the number one!!
Thanks man 🙂
Love these, Rob! Decided to spice them up a bit with some hi-hat barks. Great practice!
Thank you!
Thank you 🎵⭐️

wow snare sound
End demo by "Beat Down Rob Brown " I hear Clyde Stubblefield "Cold Sweat" . Love that . Great funky ghost note tune .
Great Tutorial
Thanks!!!
That yamaha is beautiful 😍
Not bad, eh? 😍
Good stuff as always Rob!
I am learning this at this moment 😃

Much love Rob! Great Video!
This was a big help for me! Thanks Rob !

I have to say...I'm not digging the new lighting...it's on the harsh side...
You're a great teacher and I like your style of teaching.
nice lighting
Very goid class.
Needed a bouncing ball/moving bar type thing on the staff below to follow your moves with written notes. Yup I’m a beginner.
Thank you for this fun learning tool to help me bring out more dynamics to my stile of drumming. I really appreciate you for what you are doing! Keep it coming
Thank you for this video my ghost notes sound good but I would always like to improve my chops!
We'll cover everything this year 🤘🏾
thanks 🙏🏾 🤘🏾
Thanks,my ghost notes are weak.........time to get to work on them.Respect.
Preciate that... I’m learning!!!!
Thank you very much!
thx again for the valuable tips man, that last groove was funkying awesome 😃🤩
as some others mention it - the cold tone lightning is depressing!
Thanks, man. Yea, still messin around with different lighting vibes along with the new camera upgrade. Might take a couple videos to settle into somethin'
Another great video, Rob! Do I remember you saying that you were going back to matched grip? Am I making that up?
Thanks Rob. Very informative man. Where’s the second floor tom? No more matched grip?
What MIC's you using? They sound good. And all of them or just 1 or 2 of them on the last groove.
Let's get to 200k lessss go
Groove #5 has the Steve Jordan feels.
Cool rob
Still great !

Oh man, I remember the day I got my first kit, oh the memories, hope you have a blast for the rest of your life playing the skins. 🎶
Super dope as always... not as dope as that drumeo hoody tho😎
So it's back to trad grip then?.....or does it depend on the "feel" that is called-for at the time?
We have an on again / off again relationship 😁
@@RobBeatdownBrown Ya I hear ya.
I like the old lighting. It was brighter.
Still great content though!

Hey Rob. Is this exercise doable just on the pad without the entire kit? I don't get to sit behind a set for a long time
The snare is gonna feel different to your practice pad (unless you have one that really does bounce like a snare)
You can practice on anything but there's gonna be adjustments to make based on the feel/weight/bounce of your practice surface compared to the snare.

Rob, have you gone back to traditional grip again?
It’s complicated 😄
Did you upgrade your camera Rob?
New camera/new lighting, yea. Just trying a few different vibes out over the next few videos
Damn... To me it's the most difficult important thing to master...
Learn the simple drag rudiment, it helps a lot to "feel" the rebound with your weak hand, too.
💯🏆🎖

What happened to the lighting in the shed?
I can do all these, but i feel so dull and have like no groove why is this ? Its the exact same but for some reason when i play it sounds like it has no groove
Great video as always.
But your new lighting is blueish and also quite dark for my taste. I miss the warm colours of your videos from recent years.
👌🏽
That a dark energy ride?
Yup. Mark I 🏆
@@RobBeatdownBrown gotta do the mk1. I got the 22". Best ride on the planet.
I thought this was talking about the band ‘Ghost Note’
i have a real hard time trying to play #5. the second double ghost note is impossible for me to play. it only sounds right while i play my right hand in the air, when i touch the hi-hat it turns into single or triplet. god help!
boom crack,boom crack.
What’s going on with the lighting? It’s gone all blue and moody 😀
New camera, new lighting. Still trying a few different vibes out here 💡
