    Big Thank You to BeamsWork for sending me the Odyssea UV Sterilizer 18w
    This is a very well built product that has been designed for a specific purpose and that is to control algae blooms. The common type of algae bloom is green water. This makes your tank look unsightly and no matter how many water changes you do it always seems to come back with a vengeance. The main sufferers of green water are those to keep their tanks by a window and the tank gets lots of direct sunlight.
    Inside the UV Sterilizer is a solid quartz tube in which the UV bulb sits, surrounding the quarts tube is a spiral channel which the water flows round extending the amount of time that the water is in contact with the UV rays.
    This is a great product for the price and hopefully i can report back any changes i observe with my tank.
    Thank You for Watching

    I would hang it on the back because I do not get green water on the regular. I happen to be suffering from green water right now because my co2 tank emptied and ran for 2 days before I noticed there was no co2 being pumped in. By the time I refilled the co2 tank my water was green and getting greener. So hanging it over the back until it’s gone, rather than setting it up hidden and inline, is better for me. UV sterilizers are not meant to be run all day everyday like an aquarium filter anyway, that’s a great way of burning out your bulb within 3 months.

    Hey guy,,, how ya doing? There is a great video on a channel called JacobsAquarium concerning a huge algea bloom. He purchased on of these UV inline lights and within a short time, the light brought his tank back under control. Check it out,, its great proof that these lights really do function as advertised.

    Wish they made a nano or micro uv thing for shrimp tanks, I know algae are good for shrimps, but uv might help kill any Parasite,

    Love the video on the UV. Can you run the water @ say 250gph from your sump and return into your sump. (Sump size is 4ft x 1 1/2ft x 1ft.) I already have an 1100gph pump for my tank so just need partial UV sterilisation. Can that work. Cheers. Reply when ready. Thanks bruv. Later. (By the way, you should be an expert by now as this is 2015 lol.)

    you said there is a quartz housing preventing the UV light from contacting with the water. Are you sure? I didn't see any housing.

      Planted Tank UK hmmm, I have seen an actual one on display and when i look through one of the intake / outflow piping, I'm able to see the "bulb holder". I'm intending to buy one, it would be good news if it indeed has a quart housing on it.

    I bought this model 4 years ago but you get what you pay for with this device. While this UV sterilizer does the job it is designed for, there is no way to successfully clean out quartz tube without tearing the entire unit apart. Unless you don't mind buying an entirely new UV sterilizer every few years, you don't want this. But since this unit is so cheap, replacing the entire thing isn't a bad idea either.

    DO NOT TOUCH lamp with you bare hands ! grease in you hand burn to lamp and lamp last much shorter.

  • @bassiclogic
    @bassiclogic 10 років тому

    You should never directly handle a UV bulbs with your hands! The oil from your hands shortens the life of the bulb!
