Beautiful video QM, the panoramic format works great for this appreciation of the viaduct in its landscape, which i have never seen fully before. Please repeat when all the earthworks are greened over.
Music in a QM video!! What sorcery is this? Great footage and very relaxing on the senses - the perfect antidote to, well, everything else. The viaduct certainly looks fantastic nestled in the tree tops. There's just a hint of stutter at times. Was that due to a signal problem or you experimenting with a different video format? Anyway, it doesn't detract from the finished article and it was fun to see your little thingy land gently next to the bicycle. Keep 'em coming ... 👍
Thanks Dave. 👍 Hadn’t planned to use any music but someone posed the question after the fact. The footage ideally needs editing (no sudden jerky movements!) In fact I was on my way home and curiosity got the better of me to stop with little juice in the drone… so it was all rather unplanned but an interesting exercise nonetheless to put sound to video..!! I’ll try to be more professional next time and not be so lazy!! I’m always open to music suggestions though…
What a vast waste of money. It's completely over-engineered for what it has to do. All had to do was build an earth embankment through some flooded gravel pits, which the Victorian railway engineers did very well. It may be designated as some sort of wildlife protected area now but 40 years ago these were just great big holes in the ground that gravel was extracted from i.e. it's a brownfield site. No wonder the whole project is a massively over-budget. Really poor decision-making by the civil engineers and politicians.
I think probably the Victorians would have built a viaduct here too. Certainly taking into account two roads and a canal to traverse. Thanks for watching. 🙏
Digging a cutting through a gravel bound lake would require the lake to be drained and all the remaining gravel removed and replaced with clay. Cost ? Tens of billions. You would also have to tunnel underneath the A 412 to marry up the levels with the Chiltern Tunnel entrance.
@DrewWithington Ah, so you mean build an earth embankment from the bottom of the lake to the same level as the new viaduct ? What would be your proposed method of ensuring the embankment wouldn't be washed away by the lake ?
@@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg You just use loads of clay. Clay is waterproof. There is miles and miles of railway embankments built in this country by the Victorian railway engineers. It's not a difficult thing to do.
Thanks Carlos… nicely described. 👍 All it needs now is for Dominique to shimmy along and for some nice trains to appear on the viaduct.. I’m getting carried away…
@@stevetony6876 yes great stuff. I can also see a few details like an operating narrowboat on the GUC, a mansion on the golf course, and I can see in the distance some tall buildings to the south which may be Heathrow but unsure. I hope to make it there one day when it is up and running.
Stunning! Great panoramic shot…
A beautiful piece of engineering in a lovely setting! Great video. 😍
Fantastic, I didn't think you could beat the last one, but you did! ❤

@@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg I didn't say digging a cutting. I said build an earth embankment. Read what I wrote.

Serene music and grand views from over the large golf course; HS2 viaduct mid-span like a skipping stone, and adjacent heritage line.
