This is fantastic: Two drummers from two generations and totally different musical upbringings. But you can hear that they really listen to each other in this double solo. Each one give the other space to show their chops and each one really listens and reacts to the other one. This should be a pleasure even for non-drummers!
Gavin's older than he looks, only 6 years between them
@@MH89002 yes and he knows Simon since they were kids (from the same quartier in London)
Sure it does. I’m not a drummer but i do love to listen and watch these two mastodonts at work! ❤
Two of the greatest drummers alive!
Absolutely!
Not even close. Thomas lang would annihilate them both
@@dcmastermindfirst9418you’re naive. First of all, all Thomas has is chops. He can’t write good music or musical drum parts. And he still can’t out chop Gavin anyway
@streetworkoutnation6851 lol if I'm naive you're an idiot.
ua-cam.com/video/xlvbY6DToPs/v-deo.htmlsi=3ActWJIQ6-_HGixu
Lang wrote this this entire composition and did vocals too.
And Gavin harrison isn't even close to Lang in terms of skill or composition.
Try harder.
It's like a conversation without words but you understand everything
Different ages and different roots, but both are great drummers.
Simons father (big band leader) was kind of the boss on some time of Gavins father (trompet player)... if i remeber correctly. The roots are not that different. But the musical journeys are different. :-)
This is the most abstract drumming I've ever heard. I fucking love it!
I can't describe how amazing this is. Gavin Harrison impresses me every time I hear him play. One day I'll be like him. ONE DAY
Work hard and you'll get there.
🤣
🤣
The same can be said for Simon Phillips!
@Ben Riegel open handed is actually a great advantage! A lot of cross stick players are more limited or maybe put it that way: more complicated for them to expand over the kit. I wish I was an opened handed drummer.
i find this kind of videos more inspiring and enjoyable, than the look-how-fast-i-can-play non sense shed videos where 3-4 guys come together.. where is the taste man where is the feeling... thats why %90 of them sound no different than the other.... true masters like gavin and simon will always stand out!!!
yeah, music not sportevents!
Yeah people usually like watch what they can comprehend.
Totally agree!
The musicality of this piece is beautiful
This was so incredible, you see two unbelievable musical masterminds at work. It's intriguing to see them play of each other's playing and not choking or replicating it. Like when Simon was playing his big low boomy Tom's Gavin played in between the notes with his high tuned Tom's and hihat. Simply stunning to watch these to together.
Absolutely 2 incredible players .. but when they do their "together" parts ... man, they are so tight it's almost like one player!
Simon is a monster.....one of few guys who still rocks a huge kit and has earned it! I usually like a more stripped down tighter set up but love seeing SP behind this monster Tama after all these years!
The best 2 drummers in the world, period.
What about Baard Kolstad and Marco Minnermann? Those 4 monsters are my favourite drummers.
a very childish comment. have you heard every other drummer in the world?
4:33 beautiful "Simonism" followed by a "Gavinism" 😍 two greats
I can die at peace after watching this
Just love the sound of the Sonor drums Gavin Harrison plays - what a tone! One day...maybe...
Man, following Gavin's ride work at 2min was tricky .. his 'tree of splashes' goodness always cues me in that he is said genius behind the kit.
This is absolutely amazing….. like brothers, best friends ❤
2 TOP KNOTCH BRITISH DRUMMERS THERE!!! GREAT STUFF!!!!
Incredible! there is a dialog, question & answer in each fill! two of the greatest drummers
Very nice percussion ensemble! Both such great players, and musically compatible. Would love to hear this again with good speakers
love both of these guys, amazing musicians!
Both are great drummers with a great drumsound. So musical and melodic. This is awesome
I never put it together how much alike these two play ! Great matchup ! WhoW !
Beuford and Collins is another
I meant Chester Thompson
HOW CAN YOU DISLIKE THIS?!?!?!?!?
I think you will find it extemely rare to find any video on youtube with 1000 likes and no dislikes. For this to have only 8 (as of today) means that only 8 of the 1000+ viewers were the donkeys that dislike vids for kicks. Funny old world eh? Concentrate on the positives!
dear simon& gavin. you guys are two of the very bst drumers; i love it keep your drums coming buds; im behind y u guys; your fan; terry
Yeahhh!!!!! Chester and Phil updated - awesome!!! P.S.: the basic concept sounds like late 70s through 1992 Genesis in 3/4 time sig (or is it?) just with tons of modern ideas and crazy overlayed accents. Would love to see both playing together in a prog rock band.
Wow 2 masters couldn't get any better!
2 of my favorite drummers..awesome
So well done and in tune each other
Wonderful performance! These guys both play so well, even though they are very different. It's too bad drummers don't get together and play with each other more often. I've done it a few times and it's amazing what comes out. Also, a great opportunity to learn new things. If you liked this, there's a great video on YT of Jojo Mayer and Benny Greb, different from this but just as amazing.
One of the best and unique drum solos I heard.
That's a lot of fun! Musical, too.🙂
Wow! These two drummers totally rocked it! I really enjoyed the entire piece because it was so musical. It wasn't about two drummers banging to see who can play the fastest. it was very tasteful. Thanks iDrum!
Just stunning! Two of my top-3 favorite rock drummers, along with Mark Brzezicki.
What ever happened to Mark B.?
This is a master piece!
Musicality at its finest! Love simon the pie man
This is GOLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
🤘🏼❤🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁❤🤘🏼
My two idols
My two fave drummers ever #2gether 🤙🏻🔝🥁
That was totally beautiful, absolutely outstanding in everyway.!!!
5:18 Glorious
Come on now... that's how we brits do it. Two of England's finest drummers. Love this.
How cool are these drummers!!! Really enjoyed the whole video, thanks for sharing
No Problem! Glad you enjoyed it - remember there is more inside each issue of iDrum magazine which is free to read online! If your interested in any of our back issues head to: bit.ly/iDrum_BackIssues
Absolutely incredible. The feel between these guys is incredible. Such skill. Makes me want to go and set fire to my kit!
Legendary
This is amazing.....
Me encanta la forma de interpretar de Simon Philips, un gran músico por donde lo mires.
Awesome sound. Very great drumming from two accomplished musicians
Sublime, exquisito, un deleite al oído, excelente manejo de dinámicas, dos grandes de la historia bateristica!!!
The best drummer game: let's play rather twisted rhythms so as to the other drummer fuck up his play!
Love seeing Gavin & Simon jamming around, can't wipe that smile off my face.
What a joy to watch and listen to! Thanks so much for sharing:)
this is the most inspiring shit ever
Simon's snare KILLS always! If the snare pops like this you play less to let it speak...this is one of the better double drumming performances...these guys listen to ea other well...musical over a wankfest many turn into
a masterclass in technique
Love it..brilliant guys.
Gavin's snare sound.....Ooooohhhh God!!!
Fantastic! Thanks iDrum :)
Has a feel of going into Bottom Of Your Soul. It's got that riff.
Nicely noticed, it has the same 6/8 time signature and similar tempo, a lot of Simon's fills are quite similar to the big roll down the toms he plays just before the end section of the song
Gavin Harrison hitting the toms and bells at the same time from 3:05 is one of the tiny little things showing why he's the best.
Brutally good ..
amazing
awesome.
Love this!
you can really why Gavin was the perfect choice to inject something new into King Crimson
Yeah, but Fripp needs to do a new POWER TRIO with GH and some new bassist. So easy! Just improvise it all!
Just awesome!! So musical . Amazing chops but not a chops fest for the sake of it. The effect is so powerful!🥁👌🏻
excellent tom sounds, real tribal
4:36 Fear of a blank Planet ;)
no... its like every third song played by gavin^^
One of his licks
Gavin Harrison is a God! Just wow!
Very fricken cool!!!
great !
im fainted a thousant times during this video
I'm gonna have this as my ringtone and never answer my phone..
GH is predominately a Rock/Prog Rock drummer with multi genre ability, but, he’s the only drummer I know of that doesn’t continually beat on China’s, he uses the 12” like a splash and the larger ones like accent cymbals striking them only once and not repeatedly.! Just inspirational for other drummers to improve their own ability and texture.!
I like both of them.😆
Good shit
It seems to me that 27 people have never watched great musicians together before or never held any drumsticks in their hands.
They listen to J lo and Beyonce shit.
I like Simon Phillips the great musician
They’re just discussing their favorite Seinfeld episodes. 🤘🏼
Imagination brings untold sounds on bigger kits , why compramise when a drummer can play one . Buddy rich was a small kit player , do big kit players knock him? Drum school is a big lesson , infinitely for us all to learn .thanks Simon and Gavin. .
I jut heard this for the first time. Really good stuff. Simon went on a crazy tangent near the end. Gavin backed off with class due to his personality.Total class. At any point GH could have really walked the dog. But he played to the situation. Simon did great, but Gavin is off the chain
Both inspire me and cause me to consider quitting at the same time!
Holy shit gods are together
Imagine these two at your local drum circle meet up.
That opening bell riff sounds like Sound of Muzak!
top of the top
I think all the people that constantly make the drummer joke about drummers not being musicians should watch this. This performance is as much musical as it is rhymical
what drums were made for. Yes
BRITISH POWER !!!
That Tom work is almost Tribal feeling
Is there any transcription available yet? Did any one try to do that?
Drumzilla!
Can any one please help to find the end timing? 6.26 to end
4:34 I die! OMG!
is there a studio audio pull from this session anywhere to be found ?
What a fucking racket!
Did Gavin write this? Just saw Crimson in Cleveland and they performed this at the show..
Did you know that your area’s local time is being adjusted every 10 minutes on Gavin’s Time? In some countries the clocks are even skipping one hour every time Gavin stops playing. Some conspirators say that back in the 90’s UTC was adjusted upon atomic clocks but this led to a global mess and we immediately turned back on Gavin’s Time. Just some food for thought.
I sense the ending of "fear of a blank planet" drum part at 1:22
And the middle break at 4:35 too! (the break at 5:00 in the song Fear of a Blank Planet)
I feel like im the only one who thinks Simon Philips drum kit is a lot bigger than it should be! I think a setup like Gavins would suite him much better!
Simon is an "old school drummer" and the large drum set became his signature. But he does have a small kit too playing with Toto.
Yeah, he could kinda loose about half the toms he has and literally no one but him would notice from a sound point of view.
