It would be useful to also consider the relationship between having a palette of characters, world-building, genre and then the synergy products that satellite transmedia productions (everything from fast food cups to stickers and frisbees). I'm not certain this absolutely has to be limited to superheroes; a Sex and the City model comes to mind ... 'Tis an older book, but still useful and relevant in this context: High Concept: Movies and Marketing in Hollywood by Justin Wyatt.
