  • Welcome to the lounge at Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre. Today’s video is a bit different from my usual content. This tribute is dedicated to a magnificent Harbour Air De Havilland Beaver, ident C-FFHA, showcasing three of its takeoffs and three landings. Tragically, this beloved Beaver collided with a small boat in Vancouver Harbour on June 8, 2024. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is currently investigating the incident. Please note, this tribute video does not show the crash or speculate on the accident; instead, it celebrates the aircraft's beauty and grace in flight.
Welcome to the lounge at Vancouver Harbour in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Before we embark on this tribute adventure, it's important to acknowledge that I filmed this aerial spectacle within the shared, unceded ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We express our heartfelt gratitude to these Indigenous communities for their enduring stewardship of the land.
My channel is dedicated to bringing you new flight adventures every weekend, allowing you to explore the world of planes, trains, automobiles, food reviews, and tourist attractions in the vibrant capital city of Victoria, Vancouver, British Columbia and across this vast country of Canada. As my horizons expand, so do the journeys across the vast and beautiful landscapes of Canada. New flights are added to the Planes Playlist at 4:00 am Pacific time every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There are almost 200 seaplane videos in the Planes playlist. Thanks for taking your front row seat with a first class ticket in the lounge.
In the spirit of giving back, my channel is monetized, and I am thrilled to share that 10% of my earnings will be donated to various charitable organizations. By tuning in, you're not just enjoying captivating content; you're also contributing to a greater good. Together, we can make a difference!
Thank you for joining us on this aviation adventure at Vancouver Harbour. Your support means the world to me. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more thrilling adventures! Stay tuned for more exhilarating experiences from the skies above and beyond! ✈️🌍

NO! Oh no. Not that Beaver. Oh.😢😢😢
I had heard about the accident, but did realize which aircraft it was. I never imagined it would be, could be #39. 😕
"Props" to her for protecting those on board. Hoping she is fixed and flying again. Thanks for the lovely tribute!

My first thoughts when I saw the accident was I hope all involved are OK, then the second thoughts were sadness for seeing the little Beaver seriously wounded. I hope they can make her fly again, I'm sure they will try. Best...Corrie

Hi again from England. I had the pleasure of flying in a Beaver in Alaska some years ago. Great little aircraft. I have just discovered your channel. Liked and subscribed. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Sorry to hear about this aircraft. I hope she can be salvaged and restored.

@user-do2rv4db9, Peter, you came back to the lounge! You have fulfilled a bucket wish list of mine and that is to go for a ride in a Beaver. In a lifetime of memories, it's pretty cool when you can relive a good one. A ride in a Beaver is a life memory. My dream is to sit in the right seat of a Beaver, and film the journey. I don't know what it is about a Beaver, it just revs me up! I'm with you, I hope this little Beaver can be restored to fly again. This one held a special place in my heart. I am truly grateful for your kind words, engagement and support. Best....Corrie

@@leftcoastcorrie One of my flights was in the right seat and I did film the flight using a VHS camcorder. I still have the tape somewhere. Other than that, the only other vintage aircraft I've been aboard was a Lancaster bomber. Sadly, she's not airworthy, but can taxi round the airfield where she's based. Definitely a bucket list wish.

@theflyingfool, thank you for your kind words, engagement and support, I am sincerely grateful. Yes, I am a true enthusiast, the excitement is real....lol. Oh my goodness, I was so upset when I saw how this whole episode of my favourite little Beaver ended up. I'm with you, I hope they can rebuild her. I too hope all involved are OK. I'm trying not to speculate on the "cause" of the accident, that being said, I've seen far too many mariners not know the rules of the water. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will come to an outcome. I was just filming seaplanes in Victoria Harbour and the harbour patrol boats are on high alert to the marine traffic. Sometimes out of bad things, come good things. Hopefully this is accident is bringing awareness to harbour rules and improves safety, not only in Vancouver, but all of the little harbours. Thanks for visiting the lounge. Best...Corrie

I’m by no means putting blame on the pilot. I’m sure he’s completed countless trips safely and professionally. Ultimately it’s his responsibility regardless of rules and right of ways. We are all human. I wish him the best and am grateful that all his passengers are alive and not making it more difficult to deal with. Huge responsibility to have every day you go to work and even when you do everything right it sometimes turns out wrong

    • @leftcoastcorrie
      @leftcoastcorrie  3 місяці тому

@HOWNDOG66, your words could not be more true, we are all human. Tomorrow's upload was filmed at home on June 15th. I'm gobsmacked at the sailboat entering the harbour and motoring right up the middle of the harbour, with no regard for the rules. The Otter about to take off knew what was going on as did the harbour patrol. The Otter reached the take off marker and held back as the harbour patrol raced at full speed to move the wayward sailboat out of harms way. I caught it all! I'm not being mean, but there should be fines for stupidity. If a mariner doesn't know the rules of the waterways, they shouldn't be on the water. Ignorance is a terrible excuse! Sorry for my little rant. Thanks for your kind words and support. Best...Corrie

@HOWNDOG66, funny you mention the boaters course. I know someone that paid another person to pass the boaters course for them. Their ridiculous excuse was "I'm not tech savvy". Needless to say, I stepped away from that individual. I'm still angry with this person and their lack of regard for safety on the water. Apparently I'm not over it. That's my rant for today, back to editing....lol. I am grateful for your kind engagement and support, thank you. Best...Corrie

Me: "I gotta be honest with you. I'm scared shitless flying in small planes."

I believe theres a chance C-FFHA will fly again because all de-havilland are the toughest aircraft in the world take for example what happened to 9N-ABM it was damaged heavily in a takeoff accident in Nepal to the point it was flown out in pieces and delivered to Calgary in a sea container but thanks to Regent Aircraft Services it was rebuilt And 9N-ABM became what you know it today as C-GHHA

Other than the floats ripping off, the airframe seemed to be intact when it sank. I'm sure it can be recovered and repaired after a thorough fresh water rinse to prevent corrosion. The secret is to not let it sit too long under water before recovery.

I was gobsmacked to watch the harbour patrol have to race full tilt to get a wayward sailboat out of the way of an Otter about to take off. The Otter pilot saw well aware of the situation. I have little doubt she will fly again. They are far to useful not to. It's amazing how badly damaged an aircraft can be and still be rebuilt. They often go on to render many more years of service. An easy identification point when the are seen at a distance is th Beaver has the typical de Havilland shape fin while the Otter's is taller an differently shaped.

Aircraft in far worse condition have been returned to flight. Given that she was taking off she'd have been at full power so that has very likely shock loaded the engine. Thankfully the parts and expertise are around to rebuild it as are the skilled crafts people to rebuild the airframe. Give it 3-5 years and she'll be in the air again. If it even takes that long.

@mothmagic1, Ian, I agree, I've seen some pretty mangled aircraft get all fixed up and flying again. My concern with this is the salt water, time will tell. If they got her a fresh water bath pretty quick, maybe, just maybe she can be rebuilt. Best....Corrie
