    Five or six years ago, I bought a simple medium, new, cast Himalayan bowl and the Singing Bowl book. I followed the breaking-in instructions to the letter. Perfection!
    Now I have a magnificent singing bowl that will be a family heirloom.
    The other day, I wanted to shop more new bowls and was disappointed that your collection is now antique and rare only.
    I feel *fortunate indeed* to have acquired a new bowl from you. Breaking it in myself was the best idea of all.
    Glad to share good news and review.

      Hi, That's a 9 inch antique singing bowl from the 18th century. This exact bowl has been sold long ago - the video was made in 2011. I have similar singing bowls on my website www.himalayanbowls.com Thanks, Joseph

    So mine I bought headed to bed store and it doesn’t have a rubber outside or leather outside on the mallet it’s only wooden, will it not work?

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  6 років тому

      Kelly Oconnor yes you can play it with just the wood, but as I demonstrate you will get better tone with the cloth for striking and leather for playing around the rim.

    Very good, informative video. If I may ask, what is the size of your large bowl? I love that deep sound. I'm currently looking at a 10 inch, hand hammered one and hoping it sounds like that.

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  7 років тому +1

      Thanks. The large bowl in the video is about 10". The depth of tone depends on both the diameter and the thickness of the bowl. A 10" bowl can sound very deep if it is thin or high pitched if it is thick. Every bowl on my website www.himalayanbowls.com has a sound clip which I record myself with professional equipment. Click "Listen" to hear each individual bowl.

    Can you play and or strike the smaller bowl while it's on a cushion?

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  7 років тому

      Yes you can. My cushions are made to hold any size of bowl. If you don't have one of my cushions, rubberized shelf paper or velcro will keep a bowl on the cushion.

    may i ask a question: is it normal that my medium size bowl gives a second sound when i strike it? its it gets louder and quiter like when you in your video pass over the rim in at 3min.

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  7 років тому +2

      Yes - it's normal. All handmade singing bowls do that. You should hear the lowest tone and 1 or 2 higher tones. The high tones are the harmonic overtones. They should be in tune so the overall sound is nice. If the harmonics sound out of tune, it can be unpleasant. That's why I choose my bowls so all the tones sound really nice together.

    Hi, Yes - we ship worldwide. The website will give you a real time shipping quote.
    Yes - you can email me a photo of your bowl and I can tell you the age and any other details. Just take a photo from the side, similar to the photos I have on my website. Make sure it's in focus so I can see the surface of the metal.

    Hi :) i have question, why i cant sing with bowl when i play with stick where is leather?

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  8 років тому

      +Majuska L Some singing bowls don't play well with leather - often very small bowls don't work with leather. If the bowl is more than 5" diameter, it should play easily. You may need a thicker mallet or watch my video to improve your technique.

    wHAT AN EXCEllent informative video !
    Bravo !
    I wonder, do you know if there are any copper or silver singing bowls out there please?

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  7 років тому

      Thank you. Singing bowls are made from bronze, which is copper and tin. Straight copper doesn't make a nice sound. Silver isn't generally used in instruments. Bell metal bronze is the best sounding metal and that's what they're traditionally made from. A lot of cheaper singing bowls are made of brass which doesn't sound as good. All the details are in my book, The Singing Bowl Book available at www.himalayanbowls.com

    do the different sized bowls have different pitches?

    • @TheUnQuake
      @TheUnQuake 9 років тому

      +rdotrobot yes

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  8 років тому

      +rdotrobot Yes - the size and thickness determine the overall pitch. Surprisingly the thickness has a lot to do with it. The same size bowl can be an octave higher or lower depending on how thick it is. You can compare a lot of free recordings on my website www.himalayanbowls.com

      If you bought it from me at himalayanbowls.com it will definitely work. If you bought it somewhere else, try the tips I suggest. If it still doesn't work, it may not be playable. Many of the cheap brass bowls won't play around the rim.

    my small one wont sing

    • @himalayanbowls
      @himalayanbowls  4 роки тому +1

      Many small singing bowls are more difficult to sing around the rim. If you got it from Himalayan Bowls, you can do it with practice. I test every bowl before it is packaged and match the correct size mallets - I make sure they all work! A lot of it is the mallet - if you bought it from someone else, that's probably the problem. The mallet needs to be the correct diameter. Or if it's one of the very cheap mass produced bowls, they don't always play. Bowls that cost less than $40 are brass and not the same as my real bronze bowls. A good small singing bowl should ring longer than 30 seconds when struck and be able to be played around the rim with the techniques I demonstrate in the video.
