  • This is the history of the Frisco's famed Chadwick branch that ran from Springfield to Chadwick via Ozark, Missouri. Starting way back in 1882, the dream was always to reach Harrison, Arkansas and on to Little Rock, Arkansas. But they never may it past Chadwick, Missouri. Today plans for the route is to convert the rail bed in the Chadwick Flyer Trail from Springfield to Ozark.

Thanks again for another video! I really love the history of Springfield and surrounding area. I was born at cox south and have lived in Springfield most of my life. I recently moved away and I still find myself looking back into the history in southwest Missouri. My mother tells stories from when she worked on the Frisco and I'm always looking for old pics and stories from the past. Thanks again and I'll keep watching for more

Thank you! My mother was born and raised In Chadwick 1928, and my Grandfather in about 1912 ,was a detective for Frisco RR. He left the RR 1915 ? And moved to a farm in Chadwick, he passed in 1952, my grandmother lived their until about 1970 when the farm house burned down. She moved in with my aunt in KC,Mo. I have read some of my grandfathers diaries things were a lot different in 1912.

Thanks for this video, Richard. I am building a model railroad inspired by the Frisco and documenting that project here on UA-cam. The Chadwick branch is fascinating to me so I greatly appreciate learning more about it. -Drew.

Thank you for the tour, it was very informative! Following along on Google Earth, it was interesting that an old church from the town plat of Galloway is still in existence on E. Republic. There looks like an old spur into a quarry. No wonder that a branch that was abandoned in 1933 is hard to trace nowadays. Sparta is grown up a bit with houses so there is no trace left in town. The location of their depot appears to have been purposely omitted from even the Railroad Station Historical Society list which is no matter to me anyway at this time. Good research--keep up the good work!
