The deeper I get into this controller the more delighted I become
It’s the gift that keeps on giving! Hehe
Seriously though they just keep unlocking things with it and it gets better and better from an already great place! 👍🏻
You're honestly one of the best Boss RC Channels JP!!!
Any chance you can do a guide programming the MC6 Pro with a RC-500? Preferably with you 2 separate track RC-500 setup.
I see so many people asking so I figured you would be the fella to ask.
That’s a very comprehensive design. Elegant too. Very tempting.
Yeah it’s pretty cool!
Had to buy this pedal,, just wasn’t available last year when I wanted a midi pedal and I ended up with the horrid midi commander which was trash, immediately gave it away to a friend and haven’t seen it since. This pedal is intuitive as devices should be in modern times… would’ve liked to have seen this 10 years ago but tech has finally caught up to the user after 20 years of “why is this like this”
It’s amazing how far MIDI has come for pedals. Morningstar really do push the boundaries and I’ve not even fully scratched the surface with it. When you get into midi generated waveform control to simulate things like wah pedals and then changing scenes etc.. it gets amazing!
Great video mate
Thanks 👍
Thos video is amazing. Thank you.
Thank you 🙏
I was using a significant midi rack setup back in 1990. I sold it all and went to just playing my parts caster direct to my Marshall for over 30 years. It looks like someone finally built some tech to do what should have been possible back then. Just bought my MC6Pro, it’s GTG.
It’s an amazing piece of kit and morningstar keep updating them with new features. 👍🏻
Just ordered one which I’ll use to control Ableton. Very excited to see its potential! Looking forward to controlling plug-ins and also being able to set up guitar loops in session mode using these foot controls.
Ace! it is awesome and only scratched the surface on what it can do in this video!
Morningstar MC6 Pro best midi controller available in the market.
I agree!! 🙏
I love the screens. I love that it is USBC. The Xsonic Xtone series, however, is also a super low latency audio interface that can run off your phone or tablet.
Oooh nice!
I have one. It is a great concept but has been really unreliable for me. XLR out has too much noise. But most of all, the buttons send midi messages on release only! That made it a complete non starter. I wish they released an improved version.
Amazing! At about the 17;30 mark you show that you've programmed a record/dub function. Can you provide a quick run down of how you did that?! I'm trying to get that to work on an RC600 right now and I'm not having any luck.
I lloovvee morningstar. If I didn't already live with my mc8, I'd have gone this way. The upgrades aren't enough for me to change my setup, but tempting. If I didn't live with my mc8, I'd go this way. To anyone looking for a midi footswitch .. they do not get better than the morningstar line & they have size options that should work for anyone
They are very very impressive!
Very nice review and instructional video. I think I’m going to upgrade to this. The color coding is killer.can this control something like the Source Audio C4 Synth pedal?
Yes. If it can take midi, it can control it. 👌
Great video and very informative. I just got the MC6 Pro and this was very helpful. I have some questions regarding the relay switching. Can you perhaps show or explain how you programmed it? I have a Blackstar HT Metal and for some reason it is not working. I believe my programming is correct. For the message I use Morningstar Relay Interface, Omniport 1 (thats where it is plugged in) and then give it the appropriate NC and NO that I found in the Blackstar manual. Any assistance will be appreciated.
Nevermind, I think I found the issue. Omniports cannot be used for amp switching according to the manual.
Easy now - how have you found MIDI conversations between the MC6 and the Boss 505? I'm currently using the RC-600 but MIDI wise it's a bit of a minefield - any tips or advice?
This thing is very tempting, especially for a midi noob like me, as the color screen can help make the process idiot proof once the set up is done.
And the mobile app is sweet and easy to understand. 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK there’s even a mobile app?
@khaii13 Midi Merry Christmas 🤣

Also.. this is a game changer!

Thanks for this nice review, much appreciated ! I actually have an MC8 and I may change for the MC6 Pro mostly because I need more than 16 messages per switch. Now my only question is: Is Morningstar planning to release an MC8 Pro ?
That’s fair and also amazing to use all 16! Can you describe what you are doing with the 16? That’s awesome.
Regarding the MC8 Pro.. honestly don’t know. Probably?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I've seen speculation that MC8 Pro is coming out towards the end of this year / start of next year.
Hello JP. Awesome video, as always. I have a question about the relay ports. I use a BOSS VE8 in my setup. The VE8 does not have MIDI, but does have a footswitch port. I use a FS7 connected to the VE8. Do you know if I will be able to replace my FS7 with the MC6 pro, using the relay ports, to control the VE8 in the same way I do with the FS7 at the moment?
Hey 👋
Yes. The relay ports are exactly for something like that or to switch a setting on an amp which you normally have to buy an additional pedal for, or banking up and down etc.
so yeah, you just need to program them up but they are certainly able to do that.
Head over to the morningstar forum page (very useful) for example here is a thread on it.

@@JohnPaulMusicUK Awesome! Thank you!
I've been using loopers like the Gigrig G2, this looks interesting. Can this also switch pedals like the H9 or Collider off into Bypass mode? thx!
Yes cause it can send multiple midi messages to multiple places. 👍🏻 😊
I totally agree with your criticisms, I too would have loved it if it had a built in battery and bluetooth. I guess they didn't want to add even more to the cost considering it's already $90 more than the MC6 MKII. It's still the best device in its class so I'm okay to live with the power bank and WIDI Jack.. though I would have easily paid more for those features.
That’s fair.. yeah it would also be another 2 elements that they would have to then give support about, find batteries. Have a supply chain. I can see why they didn’t. 👍🏻
Yes, I will definitely upgrade when those features are there!
I think Bluetooth is hit or miss I have a ampero midi controller and with the latest iOS17 update now it doesn’t connect to Bluetooth
Any problems seeing colors in bright sunlight? There seems to be problems with glare even inside where you're filming....
Actually it’s much better in real life than on camera. Hard to setup with camera as it is so bright, so I turn down the ISO on the camera and then that introduces reflections.
Honestly, nice and bright and can easily see during the day.
Can you tell me if the displays are visible in direct sunlight? My ideal MIDI controller would just have one LED per switch to tell which switch is engaged. Are these LCD displays comparable to an LED in direct sunlight? Thank you!
You are asking for direct sunlight.. in the UK? 😂
They are pretty bright and haven’t tested thus.. cause, y’know.. the UK isn’t sunny..
But if I get a sunny day, I’ll run out and test it and report back. 👍🏼
@@JohnPaulMusicUK haha. Even just outdoors on a somewhat bright-ish day? Really appreciated. I stopped using my helix for outdoor gigs because the LEDs and scribble strips are not visible and it’s surprising how much you rely on them. Thanks!
I've tested a screen based music gear outdoors (in London, UK) . My bet is that you won't be able to see the screen on a sunny day. Now I carry a specific guitar tuner for those outdoor summer gigs (a non-LED screen one). Such screens are built for dark stages. Best regards, Dale Harris
Question - I set up the Rec / Dub for my mc6 pro like JP explained, when I press it, it works but then it jumps from bank 1 to bank 127 and stays there. Anybody know how to correct this?
Yes. If you are using a boss pedal, then for some reason, it’s sending information from the boss pedal to the morningstar to change memories. Don’t know why this happens but unplug the midi out from the morningstar and this should stop.
Can I choose Favourite +/- in the Juno DS using this pedal?
If the Juno DS has the option to control the +/- for the favourite via midi or external commands then yes! 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I don't know. It does have an assignable "Favourite +/-" for the "control jack pedal" though. Is there a way to know? I looked for the Midi Implementation Manual of the Juno DS but I don't understand anything
Sorry noob question: Is it possible to just save the current state of the pedalboard as a preset?
Yeah. When you get onto the editor (web or mobile) it will become clear that the morningstar pedals all have memories / programs and these are your presets. 👍🏻 nice thing about that is you can move between them and have different things if you wanted to. 😊
Will wait for a U.K. distributor I’m so tired of paying import fees and $50 postage
2:35 this is where I got stuck. Can't get the editor to recognize the device and I'm ready to throw it 😂
Are you on windows or Mac?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK windows 11. Uninstalled and reinstalled a few times.
How do you feel about this compared to the MC8?
The MC8 is great but I just hope they do the same to the MC8 and bring out an MC8 Pro with similar advantages. I only scratch the surface of what’s possible with them.. so if you need all that extra functionality (more than 16 events per press) then go with the MC6 Pro. You can always add more buttons with the Omniports.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thanks for the reply! Love the colored screens on the MC6 pro so I ordered it!
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I heard rumors that MC8 PRO will be released in 2024
Dude your a great hype man. Your like look at this a trs ports for amp switching bla bla bla Or your can change the font lol. Bla bla bla
Thanks 😊 😂
Well, they are the features, so.. 🤷♂️
And imo Morningstar midi controllers ARE the best ones out there, so when they bring out a new one.. there is certainly something to shout about. 👍🏻
Looks amazing but its sold out
Very popular! Don’t think they can make them fast enough!
Get on the waitlist. I only had to wait 8 days.
Ive got an Mc8 and see no need to upgrade. There would need to more changes for it to be worth it. Grest video though man. Your tutorials are great. Wish you would do some in depth tutorials of the morningstar controllers and go into depth of everything it is capable of.
