I met Barton out at Sunset. It was 10'-12' Hawaiian. We talked briefly. Then he cheered me on as I caught a solid 12'er. He was the WORLD CHAMP. I was just another guy out. But he knew it was an accomplishment for me to stroke my 8'6" Willis Bros pigtail into a 12' Sunset peak. He is truly a nice guy. I was a fan from the time he won the French Lacanau Pro.... about 1984. I remember Mitch Thorson got 5th, and Occy said he "stunk it up.".... Thanks, Mr. Lynch for a great memory and for being nice. Some pros weren't. Barton, Mike Ho, Brad Gerlach, and Christian Fletcher were among the tops in the four years I lived in Hawaii...'87-'91 And Buffalo Keaulana too.,... They don't make people nicer than Buffalo..
One of the few surfing related channels I can actually watch the whole episode with out being bored to tears.... I love your method of delivery.... love it
Sup' Barton...so flippin stoked on your show. Found it at the beginning of 2024 I'm going back and listening to all your content. Drop the comment regarding sometimes we shared in town, I was fortunate to live on the North Shore all throughout the 1990s, PK great to see.... your really keeping it real. You have the best thing going, always lined up when you post. Woke is a joke, snowflakes are for northern regions not daily living...preach it brother and hope to bounce up again someday. 🤙🏼
Pipe Shootout series involving specialists is unbeatable... ideal because Mother Nature, old school regulators know how to do it brah! Great channel, Barton Lynch, great front man!
These podcasts always put a smile on my face. I live in a region where surfing is almost impossible and, sadly, I have minor health issues that keep me from riding artificial waves. So I never got to experience the joy of surfing over my 38 years, but I'm a big fan of the culture. That said, I hope to one day get BL's autograph and maybe shake the man's hand, although it feels like it'll never happen, since my country's name starts with an R and we're currently in a conflict with our neighbor. Btw, the video game from Bungarra is great.
Sorry to hear of your health probs and the issues with where you are living but so stoked to hear of your appreciation for surfing and its culture, and that you get stoke out of it and the podcast. Thanks heaps and easy to get that autograph, we know people ha.
Good show you guys are top blokes for sure! The hui and also the vans event formats are both fatally flawed. Also the points thing in the hui event is complicated af or at least has the potential to be. Cheers guys!🍻
Great show as always guys. BL, love your point about the invite list to the Pipe Masters. All types from everywhere etc. It's that same type of consideration that makes me believe Erin is Surfer of the Year imho. She won Grom Search. Then she medaled with Team Canada in Panama. Then she battled through 12 grueling repechage rounds to take individual silver at the ISA's in El Salvador. Then she won the last CS event of the season seizing a coveted top 10 ranking in dramatic fashion. Then she won the Haleiwa Pro, again in dramatic fashion. Then she tops it all off by making the Pipe Masters final on her very first try at just 16 years old? Wow. She faces all competitors, in all competitions, and in all conditions, and she just doesn't care. She just works! And that's a solid year.
@@barton_lynchThanks Barton. I do what I can. Btw I edited my comment to add her Grom Search win and to clarify it was a "team" medal for Panama. She's legit. Anyway keep up the great work and great shows! Love it.
I think they were having trouble selling it, as amazing as that may sound and got those two surfbrands in on the standby and ready to cover a base amount for the event and then maybe they got lucky and Lexus came through. I didnt know that though. Thank you for sharing too brother.

WSL should allow at least 8 Pipe specialists in their comp. They need a special format for Pipe simply because Pipe is so special.
Merry Christmas Fellas keep up the good work
Thank you Gaz, merry chrissie
What's worse, being homeless or being Australian?
Lol. Love it.

Any scoop on the sponsorship change for the pipe pro? Lexus now in place of Florence/vissla?
Thanks for sharing!

Three heats per surfer is enough.
Yes I agree but just, nothing less could work. Thanks barb
@@barton_lynch i agree Barton. The three heats appeared ideal. It was a great format.
