I absolutely fell in love with my 350 Legend right after the first shot!
The mild recoil is definitely a selling point for those of us that do not have straight wall restrictions.
Living and hunting all my life in Pennsylvania.. most the deer are shot within 75 yards.
The 350 will knock the snot out of the biggest buck in the woods inside 100 yards. This past season I downed a big bodied pennsylvania eight point and my brother's nephew downed a huge 10 point with his.
We both were using Federal 180 grains. Complete pass through double lung shot. A blind person could follow the blood trail.. but unnecessary due to both deer falling within thirty yards of the shots.
Thanks for sharing this brother 😊

It's a great short range hunting cartridge. Outstanding out to 100 yards. Pretty good out to 150 yards. It goes down hill fast after that. Most hunters in the eastern half of the US will normally shoot less than 150 yards though. I would compare the 350 Legend to a 30-30. Many deer have been killed with a 30-30. If you need to shoot past 150 yards, you should probably go with a cartridge that has more powder capacity. This is a fun little carbine type cartridge with low recoil. It'll work in a single shot, bolt action, or AR-15.

I'm sold on that bullet that you were using in this video. It worked for me very well this [almost] past deer season here in Southeastern Michigan, in the restricted firearm [formerly shotgun] zone. 200 yards is the absolute max that I will attempt to take a deer with, with the 350 Legend. I would say that trying to go past that would border on being irresponsible sportsmanship, just my opinion of course. For where I hunt the 350 is perfect; far preferable over a shotgun slug or the hassle of dealing with a muzzleloader. I know many would disagree with me. That's fine. It is great to have options for all of our different preferences. Thanks for the video. I enjoy your material very much. Keep up the great work. God bless.

You are a ethical hunter and I agree 100%. Past 200 yards the energy is just not there. Might hit one farther but as hunters we should make sure we have a humane kill on our game. I’m glad they built that round for you folks up there so you don’t have to use shotguns and muzzleloaders.

I use an 18 1/2 in barreled .350 Legend for white tails (due to state regulations on hunting cartridges) and with this Winchester 180 grain load, I have consistently flatlined white tails on the spot, every where between 15 and 100 yards, with no need for adjusting where I aim at these ranges. Zeroed at 100 yards, I get the same shot groups at the range as shown in this video, between 50 and 100 yards, with 3 shots averaging an inch group at 100 yards.
I have found this set up fairly accurate and lethal out to 160 yards, on white tail, having to hold about 6 inches over at this range, tho I've only had the occasion to make a shot this far twice since hunting with the .350 Legend (technically one shot at 150 yrd and one at 160 yrd, both equally lethal)
With my short barrel length of 18 1/2 inches I'm not sure what kind of accuracy I'd have @200 yards, compared to this video, but now I have an idea and am going to have to find a 200 yrd range to try it out at.

I agree, the Winchester 180 gr shoots consistently in my 18" AR upper. I find similar results to others, very flat shooting between 50yd and 100 yd. I also found the Herter's 180 gr perform the same for me with no discernable difference - in fact, I would guess they are probably produced by same manufacturer or use same if not very similar powder, bullet, and primers.

The cartridge is designed to drop like a rock after 200 yards, so it won’t hit the houses on the other side of the field/woodlot you’re hunting in. It’s really designed to be a 150 yard and in round. If you use it for that, you’re perfectly fine.

Good video. My Mossberg Patriot will group just about any 350 ammo under 1.5 MOA , with the exception of the 145 FMJs. Heavier bullets seem to group better though. I can get sub MOA all day with the 180's. It's interesting to see the drop from 100 to 200, but I don't think I'd be reaching for the 350 if I was pretty sure I'd be presented with shots on deer over much 100yrds. I snagged one because the rifle/scope package was $219 on a black Friday deal, and I can use it in Michigan's "limited rifle zone". If it wasn't for the fact I do most of my dear hunting in this zone, I doubt I'd own one. An AR build in 350 Legend would be kind of cool though.

Common sense says 200 yards should be the maximum range, same with the 30-30, of course the 35Rem, 358 Winchester, are better at retaining killing energy at longer ranges.
I still feel that the 350 Legend has a place in the field, young and old, for those who can’t take the recoil, for many, many years, my wife’s go to big game critter getter was a Marlin, 444, she shot the 444 very well, killed several deer, but she’s not young anymore, and she’s getting shoulder issues.

200 yds is the longest shot I'll have where I hunt so I practiced with my hand loads out of my 350L. I was getting pretty close to the same 10" drop

A 350 legend lever action rifle would be my go to deer rifle, it'd be the perfect rifle for hunting the back woods of the Appalachian mountains here in Kentucky, we rarely get a good clear shot over 200yds, unless shooting from mountain top to mountain top and that's just dangerous IMO

Very Good Job. In a similar venue, I have a built Beowulf .50 from my most magnificent gunsmith. Using my reloads 2,000 fps with 2,000 ft lbs of energy (Hornady XTP 350 grain hollow points) at 100 yards. I have "never" seen a more accurate platform at 100 yards. Hole / within / Hole, time after time. Bullet drop from 100 yards to 200 yards is 11.5". Still a good hunter. After 200 yards, you can't kill a gerbil.

My Son and I hunt with the 350 Legend. I view that rifle as a 150 yard MAX (for me) tool. If i have the expectation of shots any further than that, I'll choose another tool. Now with that said, within its capability that 180gr Winchester round hits a white tail like Thor's Hammer, it knocks em flat. Its very low recoil is a plus as well. Its just easy to shoot and shoot well. They knocked it out of the part with this round IMO. I've always said for Deer hunting at these distances I love a slow moving, fat, heavy bullet. The 350 is no paper puncher but what it is, is a killing machine.

Curious if it would just be easier to zero it to what the box suggests. Sure if you zero at 150 you will be high at 50 yards but in regard to the lethal zone of a deer 2” will still kill.
I’ve been wanting to try this with my 12 ga as well. Zero at 150 and have a one size fits all.
I’m curious to see if you tried to zero as the box suggests what results you would get.

Interesting video as always, and realizing that your camera was actually capturing the projectile hitting the paper at 200 yards was very cool, I backed up the video several times to just watch it happen again and again.
Makes me think that you should put out a couple of milk jugs at 200 and maybe see what kind of energy that 350 still has out there.
    Thanks again for your videos.

I looked up 350 Legend and.. straight walled case is very similar to .357 from a Marlin or M1 Carbine. I checked .357 from Marlin performance (shot metal target matches to 200 yards) 357 gets 1900 fps on a 158 grain bullet with 14.9 grains of H110 or W296 You can get faster speeds with a 125 grain bullet 357 but it will not knock down a metal target at 200 yards ( I think WHO TEE WHO has some video tests of 357 on concrete blocks .. back a year or so ago)

Thanks for this video. Great information. I just bought a Savage350 and shot a box of bullets through it today. Have it zeroed at 100. 150 yds would be the longest shot I would take. I hunt on my farm in S Iowa. I am switching from a 45/70 - given age and arthritic shoulder I wanted a gun with less recoil. . This 350 is fun to shoot and the flinch I had developed from the 45/70 is gone.

Hey hey I have signal at camp!!!! Didnt want to miss this video as the 350 is my latest favorite caliber. Its 5:30 am and Im getting ready to go out…but its raining and this guy doesnt like bow hunting in steady rain. Mist or light is fine…..but not steady. I shoot these same rounds btw….but also the browning polymer tipped ones….which are a bit faster and less drop. But both are accurate as hell in my Ruger american.
