You can tell Dennaton was really going for something different when they designed beard's levels. They knew they were hard and different, and they wanted to give you some motivation to not give up.
You're right! The map design really fits the more 'military game' theme beard has. The placement of enemies feel more like strategic guard posts. The soundtrack also feels less crazy frantic drug trips like all the other characters have.
And this sonw fucking worked
Also most of his themes have a lighter tone, given the Beard doesn't enjoy guns and violence.
Beard's levels were the only ones where I felt I was playing the hero.
What about Evan?
@@mr.andrew7820 Evan isn't really working for anything good or evil, he's just writing a book, sure he only kills one man depending on how you play but it's not exactly too heroic to beat up random people for a book you're writing. Beard is an American soldier fighting against the Soviet unions attack on Hawaii, despite the brutality of what he does his goals are far more noble than the goals of most other characters.
@@-TsukasaFanhe also did something for manny to get those favours that we see on the game, maybe he knows manny is the miami mutilator? Richard calls his money dirty and Evan can snap at any moment to kill, furthermore Evan appears on "caught" and the chief mentioned earlier in the level about someone seeing the crimes Manny did

Honestly to me it describes winter perfectly, blasting this tune and letting the snows hit the floor while looking at the bright neon lights dominating the night skies
Ironic how the theme thats supposed to capture the essence of Miami, is also played in one of the only levels thats not in miami.

I listen to this song on hot, Summer days. The constant pushing of the synth in the background, the drowsy lead, and the drums make me feel like the sun just keeps pushing down on me, but I've gotta keep moving in order to finish my work for the day.

man i love this song!! Probably it wasn't conceived for that "Stronghold" level originally, but damn it fits so well in that level! You can feel the hawaiian sun burning you head, you can see the luxurious tourist resorts reduced to military camps and bloody battlegrounds... the jungle... the beaches... the heat... the sound of the machete hitting the flesh... the whistle of the bullets...

This dude got to make THE theme song for this series and he made damn well sure it was the best possible theme song.
One of my favorite details is how there's that little riff playing through most the song that evokes the feeling of a phone being dialed.

I was frustrating with the level, but when i realized this was playing in the background i said "god i love this game"
Been bumpin this song a ton lately, in the middle of the trenches of 7 day work weeks and midnights. Hearing this and smoking a joint or a cigarette after work resets my head for the day. Really feels like "ya know what we're in the shit but we're gonna make it and if not we're gonna die doin somethin and that's better than nothing at all". Gives me hope.

This along with Horse Steppin really capture the Miami Vibe and are just great.
stronghold is beard's penultimate level. you can already hear the music being more tiring, as the ghost wolves are capturing a stronghold, and they're gonna go home soon.
The soundtrack of HM2 always surprises me, it’s like every song was made to fit the game, and all of them both capture emotions and are amazing to listen to. I’m happy I learned about this song again, good job!

When I heard that song for the first time I instantly fell in love with HM2
First started listening to this masterpiece in 2020, 4 years ago already. I was going about my final year in school and suddenly came to a screeching holt when lockdown was announced. My future was uncertain and I was unsure of who I was, and what I was going to do with my life. I started to go for long walks and (very briefly) went for morning runs, just around my village to keep me active during the first lockdown. I remember walking around and staring across the fields, with this blasting through my ears in my AirPods. Still listen to it frequently now! One of my all time favourite songs. Thank you Benny, truly an amazing track for me and so many others.

This and Dust are probably my favorite tracks in the game. To me this feels like a cheerful sunrise preparing me for the day ahead while Dust is a calm sunset when everyone settles down and relaxes. I can feel the sun on my skin whenever I listen to these tracks and they fill me with hope. Thank you for making this beautiful piece and I wish you the best.

Feels exactly like it should. This track really captures that feeling of having one more battle to fight. The war is probably lost, but even then, it won't be your war anymore tomorrow. if you can survive, that is.
My dad fought in a war once, I showed him gameplay of the hawaii levels, and asked him if the war was anything like that.
He said: "Yeah, minus the badassery, (yes, he said that) sick music, and most of the bad guy killing."
This track captures the theme of the games perfectly for me. On the surface it seems fun and laid back but there's something about it that gives you a feeling of unease, a sense that there's something seriously wrong and it's not going away, and that the end is near.
I love this, it fits the atmosphere of the level so well too. Excellent work!
I love how the literal chorus of the song is "Hotline Miami," like it's trying to subliminally get in your head. Just like the game. 10/10 song design.
