I don't know if I'm the only one who feels a catharsis in this song, especially at the end. It's like a release of raw emotion. And maybe that's why Dennaton used this song for the last Richter chapter. In the whole Act 5, Richter has been pushed to kill, has been walking on the razor edge, and survived. All for his love to his mother. And then, the Janitors told him he has outlived his usefulness, and he has to die. Trapped like a rat. He's alone now. He has lost everything, but now he has nothing to lose. Pushed to the limit, he has to do one final fight. He has to release himself, not only phyiscally, but also mentally. All the anger, all the frustration, all the hatred, all the despair. He's finally free.
This. I fucking love shit like this. Music conveys the story in games and movies so well, and in Hotline Miami's case it's no different. You described this shit perfectly.
Buckets The Hotline Miami games have probably some of the best uses of music in gaming history. Up there with games like Shadow of the Colossus, which also had great and perfectly timed music.
After listening to this track like, hundreds of time, I'm feeling some kind of sadness and melancholia in the heavy drop at 2:56, and, of course, violence. Le Perv is so fucking perfect.
Those feelings after the drop counterbalance the feelings of apprehension and rising tension of 2:23 - 2:55. If this song were in a movie, it would be at the part where the heroes are preparing for an attack, and then are completely overwhelmed by the enemy. The entire album tells a story like you would see in an '80s action-horror flick, with each of the EPs being it's own story arc (thus the name Trilogy). Given this song's placement in the album at the end of EP1 and right before Roller Mobster (where the good guys begin to fight back), I think this description is accurate.
i know this is an old comment, but here are my thoughts. It starts out frantic, tense angry. Then it gets a bit more hopeful, then goes all out lets fucking goooooo mode.
Richter is one of the few Hotline Miami protagonists that I would call decent. Obviously, Evan is more of a good guy, but among the murder hobos, Richter at least has good, non-murder motivations, and he genuinely cares about his mom.
Tbh I think he's the only character who gets a somewhat happy ending? He's not afraid of what's coming. In fact, he accepts his fate since there's nothing he or anyone can do about it. Last moments spent with his mother after everything he's been through.
@@kingman450 Yeah but that's really up to the player's choice. It's unclear which choice is canon for Evan. For Richter though, he canonically ends up in Hawaii with his mother until the end.
2:56 "I just want to go home... mom... I want to see mom again. I'm not like these people. Please... I just want to get out of here." this is what i imagine richter thinking to himself during the final moments of his escape, knowing deep down that he's done things far worse than most of the inmates here, all against his will. all to protect him and his mom, because those are the only two things he's really got to live for, being a loner with no friends and whatnot. this whole song invokes such emotion every time i listen to it and its why i love carpenter brut and all his music, its just insanely well done and i have no other way to describe it. simply amazing
About two years ago, I used this in the finale of my cyberpunk tabletop campaign, as an otherworldly abomination was tearing its way into our world and reality was visibly falling apart around it. Thanks for making the scene perfect.
No one talks about 1:21? You've got this chaotic wall of sound pounding your ears, then suddenly it just stops with a single sawtooth wave that can barely keep its composure. It's subtle, it doesn't smack you in the face, but it makes its presence known through its echoes. You think you can take a breather, but you're slapped in the face again and that haunting sawtooth comes back, even angrier. The risers kick back in. There's a warbling noise in the background that seethes rage. If you listen close enough, a harrowing choir sends a shiver down your spine. Next thing you know the track's lashing back at you at full force

There's some tone about this music that is so overpowering I can hardly describe it. Besides just the adrenaline rush, there's something desperate about it. No, not just desperate, it's melancholic, if not _mournful._ Especially in the latter half past 2:20. I can see it now, as the buildup hits it's crescendo at 2:56 and the drop hits. The pure, unadulterated rage of a man with nothing left to lose. All that he held dear has been destroyed at the hands of his enemies, and his former, reasoning self has been overwritten with grief and fury. There's nothing he can do... *except get his vengeance.*

@TAGGLE63 Perturbator themself posted something (can't remember exactly where but if you look it up there should be results) that HIGHLY hinted at his inclusion in doing soundtrack work for Cyberpunk 2077. There hasn't been any official comment on it, but it's pretty much confirmed from Perturbator's words.
@TAGGLE63 certains titres sont quand même très basé années 80 , hard wired par exemple . mais d'autres sont beaucoup plus ambiance cyberpunk, c'est vrai.
Just realised , that Ritcher could have just grabbed the police uniform and just go back to the main hall Yet , he still went and *massacred* all those prisioners All , because of his irrational anger *Fucking Beast*
i think it's more because he didn't want anyone to snitch on him, with that many bodies brutally massacred it'd take long time to find out who's actually dead and who isn't, giving him enough time to escape
I hear loads of people complaining about how hard and unfair this level is, but I stand by my opinion that Release is the best level in the entire Hotline Miami series. It's a perfect way to send off one of the most interesting and genuinely likeable protagonists in the game, and the whole thing is so incredibly cathartic, not just for us the players, but for Richter as well. After being locked up and treated like an animal for a whole year, Richter is finally given the opportunity to escape from it all and *release* (heh heh) all of the pent-up hatred that he holds towards 50 Blessings. After everything the poor man has been through, this is the last brutal stretch before he can reunite with his mother and relax from it all. Level-wise, it has that brilliant... _something_ that makes the whole level feel ALIVE, like Richter isn't the epic badass protagonist who's there to kick everyone's asses all by himself (although I love the other levels in the games for that reason as well). In this situation, Richter is just one of many poor shmucks desperately trying not to get murdered, caught in the middle of this small-scale war between the security guards and escaped prisoners. It makes you feel like you're really surviving. Also Le Perv is baller. As are all of Carpenter Brut's songs.
SAIYANLINEAGE \\\\\\\ Consider the following: 1.- I do not use guns, i use swords/hidden knifes/wrist harpoons. 2.- I am half demon and i regenerate, wich makes me, kinda like Amortal.... 3.- I know various fighting techniques, since i once was an agent. For now i fake my death and lay on the floor covered in blood
I honestly think the music fits rather how Richter was when the prison raid happened. He was very affraid and distressed at first, the janitors telling their goodbyes to him out of the blues, the prison guards blocking the access to the cafeteria and the giant buff dude ready to kill him with several people cheering to see it happen and just as he beats him, the guards wants him dead, when he dresses up as a guard, the PRISONERS wants him dead but he refuses to let himself down. The song starts hopeless but as it progresses, it gets more and more epic and kind of hopeful kind of like Richter as he mows down through guards and prisoner alike just to get out of this hell and meet his mother again after a year
Oh Gods there are so many stages to this song... so many stages of utter and complete kickass. I love this song. Mr. Carpenter, you are the second best Brut to ever grace this world.
I listened to this song on a nonstop loop for 40 minutes while raging at prisoners killing me on HM2, and somehow I still listen and love this song, it is THAT good.

Я слушал это вживую в СПб как и петрубатора. Честно гайс, мне больше нет смысла идти на концерты, после этого я даже не знаю, что может быть лучше ❤
Just realised , that Ritcher could have just grabbed the police uniform and just go back to the main hall
Yet , he still went and *massacred* all those prisioners
All , because of his irrational anger
*Fucking Beast*
my guy i dont think its irrational tbh
A rat never goes out the easy way.
i think it's more because he didn't want anyone to snitch on him, with that many bodies brutally massacred it'd take long time to find out who's actually dead and who isn't, giving him enough time to escape
One of the best synthwave tracks I ever listened, this break at 3:43 Is what make this song 10/10
It gives me a mental image of stopping with firing for a second to switch weapons before starting again
Like, I can't even listen to this without using my proper headset or a surround sound system. It feels like a massive injustice otherwise.
Elijah Ewing massive injustice..."in-justice"...i see what you did there.
Fandom Reviewer why are you here
James Vee Obviously because of the dark room ending to the fucking of isaac.
r/outrun brought me here
ah i see youve moved to 4chan
This level is one of the reasons why i love ritcher
Dude be writing an essay about a hm level
Fuckin legend

SAIYANLINEAGE \\\\\\\\ p
I'll tell you what is uplifting...
An elevator full of enemies, not knowing who you are...or what is gonna happen once the doors close....
SAIYANLINEAGE \\\\\\\ Consider the following:
1.- I do not use guns, i use swords/hidden knifes/wrist harpoons.
2.- I am half demon and i regenerate, wich makes me, kinda like Amortal....
3.- I know various fighting techniques, since i once was an agent.
For now i fake my death and lay on the floor covered in blood
Jack Woods
Please tell me you're joking.
eDgY aF
i know the game is easier when you go stealthy
*BUT HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO STEALTH TO THIS BANGER?*
You can't get a S score by hesitating after all
puts the "sin" in synthwave
Thats Sinthwave then, just you know.
r/wooosh

Even bedder
"it's just a breaking out of jail level, don't go too crazy with the music."
carpenter brut:
I feel like the fact that this is perfectly timed with 120 bpm (two times faster than seconds) somehow makes it all the more awesome.
huh thats like most common tempo
it sounds identical to 60bpm without the written down music in front of you
I love the bit at 2:04 when that driving beat comes back into it and the song really revs up.
This song fits Richter Perfectly. The dude can be fucking dangerous if he needs to be. And don’t you dare threaten his mom….
The song starts hopeless but as it progresses, it gets more and more epic and kind of hopeful kind of like Richter as he mows down through guards and prisoner alike just to get out of this hell and meet his mother again after a year
14 million views on the best damn song in the OST. we must CELEBRATE
This is very Justice-y, sounds a lot like Stress
And I freaking love it.
just more aggressive
4 days ago I was listening to this in my Alfa at night and about a minute in I saw blue lights behind me. The temptation was dangerous...
*It was nice seeing you again, but I'm afraid it's time for us to leave. You take care now!*
*Say your prayers*
Дорфи *Asshole!*
the real mvp in this chapter is the dude who threw that pipe
*Isn't it lunch time?*
Oh Gods there are so many stages to this song... so many stages of utter and complete kickass. I love this song. Mr. Carpenter, you are the second best Brut to ever grace this world.
I especially love the first 2:30 of this song. Top beat work. Later the chord colors get a bit
'epic rock' for my taste, but I still like it.
Love this track...great music on this EP!
3:43that chord is fire
literally no other track would work better than le perv on release
everybody talks about some parts of this song, but why don't we appreciate All of it?
"Hello, based department? Yes I'll hold."
The music:
I listened to this song on a nonstop loop for 40 minutes while raging at prisoners killing me on HM2, and somehow I still listen and love this song, it is THAT good.
This is hands down one of the best electronic music I've heard. The progression, the electric sounds, the finale, it's just perfect
goddamn! the buildup and release! it's like a meteorite falling from space! the release happens when it hits the ground and triggers the stages of total destruction. the power!
Went pvp mode washing the dishes with this banger
the climax buildup from 3:28 into the drop at 3:43 is so godly
this is seriously one of the best songs of all time, its just phenomenal
