I appreciate Mark's rant on screws. Very true and applies across many industries
YES - as an auto mechanic, I agree 200%! One of my biggest pet peeves was the reuse of totaled fasteners. You can waste the entire billable job time on ONE stupid fastener! 😵
No joke. Especially since they’re repeat customers and the damn thing gets inspected annually, it benefits the techs to replace those screws for the next time they work on it.
Many fasteners only used once on removal must be replaced.
I'm not totally on board with that but at least every other time.
@@chauvinemmons On modern automotive engines, most of the time the cylinder head bolts are TTY (Torque To Yield), and can only be used ONCE. When you torque them to spec, they stretch to just a hair below their breaking point. Reusing them is a great way to ruin your week, lol.
Screws are cheap! Reputation is not. Replace the screws as a pro style service.
Your parents must be so proud to have raised 2 wonderful men. Y'all are amazing.
My wife gave me two sets of twins, I hope they are as successful as these guys. There does seem to be something to working in a team where you are that closely in sync with the other person.
I believe they have 6 bothers/sisters
@@TNels i believe that to be true
My twins learned to cooperate before they could talk , unfortunately it was one distracted me while the other took my wallet out of my back pocket 😃🤣 true story !
love the camera person who's spinning in the chair in thr background!!! love it!
This channel is so underrated! Love the Patey bros!
The pc12 is my favorite plane, I’m so excited for this build
I would love to see Mark do more airplane building videos. I understand he’s busy with the business, but damn! 😅
👍👍
I always thought Mark was the serious one. I was cracking up!
Yeah he really relaxed into it quickly, very cool.
Mike and Mark Patey are awesome, keep up the good work! hope to see Draco-X soon!
and congrats on 300k subscribers!
Im wondering if thats where the old pilatus engine is going
@@Trophyman does it have more power? I'm pretty sure, in a previous video, he had Draco's engine rebuilt.
Another worthwhile face lift and a new heart for the beast. Gotta Love it! Feed us more, more often!!
Well Mark, I definitely think you are the comic relief between you two. This is shaping up to be a brilliant conversion and retrofit.
the easiest way to tell Mike and Mark apart is by their demeanor and volume.
These are 2 twins I've never had a problem telling apart! It's the voice. Close your eyes and you'll still know who's talking.
The Patey twins share much but their skill sets are both complementary and overlapping. Literally a pair to beat a Full House!
2 of my best friends from the old neighborhood are twins. I learned really young to notice the subtle differences, so now that I'm much older, I can ALMOST always tell twins apart from each other. My biggest issue is remembering names. I know Mike and Mark from the years seeing them on UA-cam, but for people I just meet, I'm TERRIBLE with names, twins or not. It's embarrassing! Same with names of streets, newer cars, newer parts, etc.. Must've been the part of the brain affected by too much fun in the 80's, lol. 😁
Mark, as a weight engineer for a large airplane manufacturer, you an engineer after my own heart!! Every ounce counts. And there is no reason for weight growth over time. Absolutely fantastic!
I think Mike should do a top 10 reasons why he prefers Garmin over other companies. I'm curious to know why he likes them so so much compared to other options.
They’re very good.
What other options? Not many for certified. It's a Garmin world out there
Sponsorship is why.
they sponsor him...
Way fewer steps with the gamin touch than with the Apex. Garmin is much more intuitive.
Thankyou Mike. You sent my brother some Scrappy parts last year (you didnt even charge him). He passed away a few months ago. He talked about you all the time. Our passion was aircraft and we worked together. Its nice to see you and your brother working with each other. You flew over our house one day in Turbulence and it blew our minds (it is ridiculously fast)! I hope to see it fly again some day. Be well and enjoy pursuing your dreams.
Such an inspiration to follow you guys. Nothing seems impossible to you, having your business, building crazy houses and airplanes and mostly being good people ❤️
Looking forward to follow this project as well. Thank you for taking us on this ride with you.
My favourite channel on UA-cam
I love how the PC-12 looks like it has a giant smile when the cowling is off.
When I had my 1999 Station air T206H I got the garmin auto pilot G500, and loved it. Hope to have another soon
I am so happy to see the other brother involved. You can finally see where Mark steps in and is just an amazing support system and awesome banter between these two. Thank you both for sharing and I can’t wait to see more.
Good to see more of Mark love to watch you guys work on airplanes
At 66 and disabled this is Something i can't do except through watching you guys it's so much better than a good book that you can't lay down 😁👍🍀
As always immensely informative and entertaining. Slipping in some constructive criticism for service providers, demonstrating best practices for weight management, and making a great promo for Best Tugs in action with Mark's casual but completely confident backwards stroll w/ his freshly mod'ed "Pilatypus" following like a well trained puppy. Cliffhanger ending to keep us waiting for the next episode. Same Pilaty-time same Patey-Channel (or possibly @801pilot!) Well done. Oh, and Lima Papa... Limitless Potential!
Wow - I am very much looking forward to future videos on this project!
I'm so excited for you both! I'm here living vicariously and enjoying every minute of it. Thanks for sharing. We will watch closely with great interest and excitement.
Fantastic video. I really enjoyed the several comedic clips, great stuff. Awesome to see your tug in action, what a creation!
Very cool to see more of Mark, you two together ate a great watch.
Good luck with the rebuild👍
Thanks guys.
This is exciting!
Can't wait to see more.
I am so excited about this wonderful project!
Mark and Mike, what a great job from both of you Mark you did such a wonderful job on the video keep it up. I really love all of the A&P references I used to be an A&P mechanic for my dad‘s charter service on one old 1955 Aero Commander so it really hit home. I have followed both of your videos for a long time. Mike does a fabulous job but I’m glad to see that you’re on board and I followed you as well. I think your new “saying” should be…Mark’s going back to work??? I know Mike’s building a house that takes his time, but both of you guys do such a fabulous job for General aviation. It has renewed my interest, faith and belief in what can be done. I love the N number on the Pilatus, but I have to agree let’s party is the way to go, my dad‘s old plane was 00B miss it a lot but happy to live through you two brothers! Had the good fortune of meeting Mike and the Flying Cowboys in Reno the day before Draco’s mishap…look forward too what you and Mike have coming in the future great job to the both of you!!! Congrats and let’s Party Patey brothers!
AWESOME content, Mark and Mike! Thanks for sharing
Sweeeeeet!!!!!!! Thank you Mike and Mark for sharing this awesome transformation and upgrade to you PC12. Hope you are all doing well. Looking forward to more videos. Safe skies 🤘🇺🇸🛩️
Super episode 💪
Thanks for sharing Mark 👍
Great video Patey Bros! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for doing this. I really enjoyed it. Flying Cubs, Champs and RV-4's doesn't allow me to be exposed to this level of aviation and it's really great to see something like this, explained in ways and terms I can easily follow. Thanks Mark. Really appreciate it!
Great job, Mike! Your best video ever. These guys have an amazing human spirit.
I'll never forget when I dropped in at the late Joe Clarks "strip" (think airport, that big), and he said on the radio to go ahead and land he was just wrapping up his routine in his PC-12. For the next several minutes I got treated to a great aerobatic show. It's a crying shame you guys never met, he was a a 12 and a 6, loved the brand.
Great work ya'll!🙌 You are an inspiration to all of us and proof of why we should keep going. Thank you for sharing🙂
Mark thanks for the video update. I enjoyed it.
Enjoyed this. Can't wait to see the numbers.
You guys are awesome ! Keep up the fantastic work, love you! Thanks for your videos!
Really cool to see this. Thank you!
I'm here for everything, AND the new paint!
Two of the coolest dudes.
You blokes are inspriational - keep up the videos on aviation and house flogs. Good to see Mark on the vlogs too.
LOVE hearing Mike tell us about all the projects they have in motion!!! But.... it's a very welcomed breath of fresh air to listen to Mark and his angle on flying!!! Thanks Mark!!! (I like that name.... haha) 🙂
Me too. Thanks Mark.
loved the video thank you for your time!
Exciting. Thanks Mark n Mike.
GoDs Speed 🙏🏻👍🏻
Love the edits!
It is great to see you Mark on Mike's channel! That is going to be an awesome Pilatus! BTW, loved the part with coming up with a signature saying... now I am thinking about a good saying for you Mark....
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, thank you 🙏
The house I grew up in was number 22. I like that you guys brought that up! :)
There was always something about the PC-12 that I was drawn to. Even before I fell head-over-heels in love with aviation in 2017 (thanks to Greg / Premier1Driver's channel), I'd see one fly parallel to my street anywhere from 2-6x per week hauling pax from north to south, long before I knew what it was. I could always hear it coming - the modern turbine coupled with the old school tried-and-true prop. The long, straight wings really made it stand out in the sky, along with the SPEED! That was what drew me in - first the sound, then the speed! Before my shop was built I always worked on my tailgate of my truck in the driveway cleaning carburetors, rebuilding engines, keeping OPE, and cars / trucks running, and I'd always stop whatever I was doing and watch that Pilatus fly by, just amazed at the ground that thing was covering so quickly! It wasn't until I discovered aviation on UA-cam, and FlightAware that I knew how high, fast, what it was, where it came from and where it was going. Even at 9k feet above me, that thing just eats up the miles. Can really get a sense of the speed! Fun to watch! My chances of owning one in this lifetime are pretty slim, but that would be the one I would work my way up to if I ever had the opportunity. It's amazing to see what's under all those covers and panels! Impressive engineering. And speaking of engineering, that's the first time I've seen one of your Best Tugs operate! That is truly AMAZING! NICE work on that!! I know you guys have been continuously improving them over time, but wow, that's an impressive machine!
I've rambled enough! Great stuff fellas - always love the TV / movie clips thrown in - cracks me up! Can't wait to see her fly and perform with that new engine! I'll definitely check Mark's channel for those numbers - love that stuff. I can't recall where I saw the new paint ... maybe Instagram, but it looks PHENOMINAL! 😎🙌
the PC-12 is an aircraft I have always admired, never got to fly in one, but seeing you guys build a hotrodded one is absolutely something I am here for!
@Mike_Patey06 It is so disgusting to me to see you guys in here scamming when Mike and Mark just lost there father, absolutely despicable.
Wow. Bloody amazing
Awesome video Mark!!! and Mike. Can't wait to see the next installment. I know it'll get changed but I like the original paint scheme. Don't forget to change the small models paint, they gotta match :). I love this, hot rodding is fun.
AirHammer out!!
I have a ton of work to do today but I couldn’t “get back to work” without finishing this video. Mark you nailed it. Fantastic comedy and easy presentation skills to make dry sh*t exciting! 😂
What a clean and neat interior with a few stripped screws in the floor...I used to be an aircraft mechanic in the 1970's, working on interior mx and cargo conversions on DC-8's and genl mx on C-130's. One of the most pleasant jobs ever is pulling literally thousands of crews up from the floor panels of a C-130 so they could all be pulled up for cleaning and inspection. The aircraft has been hauling every type of cargo from oil drilling equip to fresh fish, many of whom have fallen out of the bins and now reside rotting in the sidewall of the wall panels. Many of the screws are stripped and or filled with gunk so that they won't come out easily. Also the foreman insists (so that no more screw heads are stripped) that no pneumatic screw guns be used, (we didn't have electrics then) only hand held screwdrivers and an old fashion crank driver which gives you a little faster extraction.
Oh, and it's very hot and the removal of the sidewalls and the resulting fiberglass dust has your skin on fire...and you just knelt down and your knee kit a countersunk scree head. A great motivator to find a more professional line of work!
I don't own a plane or ever plan to... I do however like to learn. Y'all are super knowledgeable and do a great job at explaining things. Thanks for sharing the knowledge
Dude Pilatus needs to pay you for this video. I love this kind of information. We are looking at going from Cheyenne's to Pilatus PC12 and this video enormously helpful really appreciate!
I love watching your videos. Everything you do makes me think one of you just won the lottery...again! I'm just happy for you guys to have the means to fund your dreams!
As good as Mike's content is, the editing is top notch to boot. Credit to the editors too!
Thankyou Mark! You are easier on our nervous systems.....
Love all the content...plane builds, pool build etc etc etc. Looking forward to this one.
Hey Patey’s, I worked a Depot at Hill AFB just north of you guys. I worked F-4’s and F-16’s on the production line. We always replaced the screws and bolts we took out with new. The locking nuts and nut plates were hard on threads and you don’t want a fastener coming out of a jet on a mission! Thanks much for sharing your video.
Love your comment about new screws! I replace mine at the hint of a bungled head.
You should develop your revised "Master List of Parts" based on what you found after getting into it.
You guys are making so much money! Congrats! That’s awesome and I pray for much more success in your future.
Excellent rundown of the upgrade. I’m used to watching Mike do the videos. I think you did very well. That’s obviously a very expensive upgrade but we’ll worth it I’m guessing. 👍👍🇨🇦
awesome video, thanks !
Can't wait for the update!!!
Nice Cliff hanger :( You're killing me with the suspense. :) Great Video guys! very inspirational!
I had lost track of you since you stepped away from the building of your last plane. Nice to see you both together working on a project. I hope you bring us along for this ride as well....
Fantastic Mark! Greetings from New Zealand.
Mark couldn't be more right and fair regarding the screws. He certainly mentioned it in a far nicer manner than I would have.
Ahhh the best tugs free advertisement. God that's easy to hook up and steer around.
Mark/Mike, I can really appreciate your comments regarding the stripped screws on your $35K+ annual. Overall, the problem of common sense not applying to annuals is endemic in the aircraft maintenance industry. I often find and am puzzled by not replacing screws, wires, connectors, etc that have minimal cost because "it still works" mentality. You should see the 40 year old wires and connectors I just discovered in one of my airplanes back from annual on landing gear microswitches.....
Can’t wait to see it all done and ripping thru the sky’s 💪🏻👍🏻
looks awesome guys
Great video, thanks. 👍
Great video Mark.
Must be Nice! Thanks for sharing.
Sweet look forward to the next video.
Mark, good to see you in a video. You are the more quiet one and I prefer your style. Anxious to follow along on this project.
Excellent stuff bro
Mark and Mike are so alike in some respects, but SO much different in others. Nice! Coolest twins around. :)
Watch the problem of the stall, The stick pusher, landing on a soft field, performing a full stall landing, will push the nose into the ground , if disconnected, the left wing will drop first, sharply.
Test this at altitude. Be sure you have control of the stall process! 🔥
The stall problem is reduced when olny part flaps are set, remember full flaps is the critical configuration
Watch blancolirio Mesquite incident !
[ Swiss aerodynamicist here, familiar with the STC process]
I hope you guys thank god every night for the lives you have! I can only dream about them…..just getting my pilots license was a struggle for me. I did it but the concept of owning a plane is beyond my wildest dreams. You guys are truly blessed! 👍👍
I really like the pace of the PC-12 engine swap. I was pleasantly surprised how much faster you showed the conversion
Me too, I was expecting several weeks worth of videos.
Let me just say I love these brothers and a big fan of the best tugs
Good to see Mark in a video again
Very exciting project.
Of course they’ll have best Platus on the planet! 😊
aww so wanted to see the startup!
cant wait for the ride!!!!
Thanks for sharing this. Keep up the great work! Now back to work, I know it's the other Patey's line.
Hey,just want you to know that I think you guys are amazing aviators and mechanics.Liked the stol monster.
Really great video. Was nice to see some video of your best tug in action, you guys should post a video just on your best tugs, in use, at airports, get your clients to send in videos from all across the world and create a video montage.
Mike was the one that hooked me on the channel, but I've loved seeing Mark get some more camera time!
Oh come on, Mark! You led me to the best part and I didn’t get to hear the ticking ignition starting the fire inside that new beast of an engine! I so wanted to witness the first exhaust puff! Haha
Had me in stitches with the catchphrases .
I'm not an airplane guy on the mechanical end but, I can relate to you guys being so particular with zero shortcuts or leaving abandoned equipment in the air frame. Great eye on the details, guys
amazing video, good talk👍
"Zinc Chromate," Mark. Also the floorboard screws may be titanium for weight savings and are very expensive. They bind very easily when removing and the heads strip. Using valve grinding compound on the apex bit when removing titanium screws helps the traction and a much less chance of stripping the heads. They are a headache but I agree with you about replacing every one that is stripped. Really labor intensive fasteners.
