I have owned 3 L322’s now I have a newish L405. Whilst I love my L405 it doesn’t make me feel they same way as when I had my first petrol L322. I didn’t love that car, I was in love with it even though like a lover she nearly broke me. Now I have a newer model I still look back fondly at my first love. The L322 is the best Range Rover in the world whilst the L405 is the best car. I really want to have another affair with a L332 before I’m too old…..
Very well said John. There’s a subtle distinction between car and Range Rover in your statement. The L405 is softer, lighter and more responsive but the L322 is just pure agricultural masterpiece that can also cruise the motorway in style. Ed
An L322 would be my dream car. My first car was a Mk1 Freelander. I was given a free Land Rover off-road experience day and chose to drive the L322. It was sheer class. However I’m forced to live vicariously through many, many UA-cam ownership videos, such as Ed’s. As much as I’d love to own an L322, the reliability issues and cost of ownership is still prohibitive for me. I’d need to have deep pockets and lots of spare time…. Unfortunately I have neither. I’m really enjoying this series, especially the buying guide and apple car play upgrades. Keep up the good work. Maybe one day I might get myself into an L322 when it becomes a “classic”.
loved the humor and glad you are happy as the last video I saw you were beginning to warm towards the car I love that colour combination as well as you do
Hi from France.Thank you so much for your videos about the L322. It's my dream car.I'm thinking of buying a 4.4 Vogue model gas/gpl 204 000 kms/ 127 000 miles.
I certainly like my 2008 SC. I think the L322 has a distinct appearance compared to newer RRs and other similar vehicles. Best mileage I have ever got was 23.
Nicely done! I am 6'4" and there is no way i will ever give up this seating position. Next week off to Gradisca4x4 in Italy! Like every year to shock the heavy modified Jeeps while following them in a bone stock RR L322 (ok, the tires are slightly bigger)... Cheers from a swiss in serbia!
I will just point out a drawback of the cooled seats on the SE. Lovely as they are, as these cars get older, the perforated leather doesn’t seem to be wearing as well as the non-perforated leather of the non-cooled seats. Just an observation I made when I was looking for one.
Thanks. I would suspect that without leather ‘feeding’ that the leather would dry out when being subject to air conditioned air since it is much dryer. I’m sure that they’d be more prone to cracking. Edit
Hi i have had many Range Rovers over the years and must admit have loved everyone of them ie once a Range nut etc but never an L322 how do you rate the P38 as everything your explaining about seating ride height etc sounds exactly the same as the P38 which i must admit i loved. So my question is why wouldn't i choose another P38 over an L322 as they to me seem virtually the same except for the added £££ when things go wrong on the L322? Chas.
I’ve no direct experience of the P38 Chas. All I know is that they sometimes had issues with electrics. But doesn’t everything? Sorry I can’t be of more help. Ed
AT LONG LAST WE HAVE A CAR THAT IS WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN BUT MORE IMPORTANT SOME ONE PREPARED TO SAY IT WITH SOUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi I see you have the screen on the dash. I have just bought a Carupride 9 inch screen and yet to fit. But it seems to just modernise the car. How did you end up fitting it to the dash ??
@@Back_Road_Hero thanks easy initial fit. Tried the bracket and it didn’t really hold well enough and I don’t want to screw into the dash Anyway well done on the videos👍
I love mine too. I test drove a brand new Toyota land cruiser the other day. Nice, but nowhere near the luxury of an L322. What’s more, 2.8l diesel with 6 gears and weighing less…. Got 32mpg on my little test route. Did the exact same route in the Range Rover, and it got 34mpg. Says if all really.
I think you are the wrong way round with the turbos, the big one runs all the time the small one above 2400 ish rpm, hence you never really use the small one, worth booting ever so often to spin the small one and clear any oil.
I loved my 2009 tdv8 3.6. After 120 mikes and some lazy gear changes flushed the box but felt was time to change. I bought a 2012 tdv8 and the 4.4 with 8 speed box just seemed a huge upgrade. I then changed to L405 after 80k miles. Love the L322 but after driving L 405 have to say it is a better car even with smaller engine. Feels lighter and drives more like a car. The weight loss is just amazing in driving dynamics. I think you need to try L 405 and even the v6. My 2012 was rusty underneath and never left the tarmac in my ownership and just think cars evolve. A good low mileage 2012 is till close to 20 k and yes there are cars that have been to the moon and back for a lot less but buyer beware. Just think you get what you pay for and never buy private as you have no comeback. You bought from a dealer and had the issues fixed for free in 1st 30 days. Love the channel, but borrow a L 405 and do a side by side as more people buy cars that are less than 12 yrs old to grow yr channel.
Thanks for the comments. All very valid. I think the L405 is truly a better car, it’s just not a better Landrover for the money. Just my opinion. L405s are still £25k+ for a descent one, but get an L322 for £12k to £20k and you have a very accomplished vehicle and exceptional value. As an aside I’m not really buying cars for the channel, just sharing what I have for now. Thanks for watching. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero i only disagee with you on pricing. Tbv8 4.4 sarted on late 59 plate cars and its an old car now. Ive hear the l322 is a better land rover and L405 a better car quoted so often. Truth is l405 is both. The last few months covid pricing gone in cars and especially range rovers due to fuel prices. Do a webuyany car on yr own car or silmilar site and they offer peanuts now compared to even 6 months ago. A 2013 L405 vs a 2012 L322 with similar mileage is around 4 to 5k more for v6 . It will hold value better also . I never knew the mileage of your car when you bought it but must be quite high ?
Perhaps. And running one can be expensive. It’s already fully deprecated so the only costs are maintenance, insurance, tax and fuel. It’s a gamble worth taking. Just like life, if you don’t occasionally risk something then there’s never any reward. Ed

They exude a hidden power, their presence on the road is undeniable.

I completely agree with your opening comments, I own one too. But I also own the other greatest all round car of all time, a Series Three Jaguar XJ12.
Very nice. Ed

Boot the 4.4 tdv8 daily when warm above 2500rpm to clear any oil build up in that secondary turbo....
Hi Rob, I’ve seen you on high peak autos channel are you a Range Rover owner yourself?
@@lukewokeywoos Yep....enthusiast through and through.
Yes, but it is embarrassing though 😥
Можно модифицировать ваакумный насос и масло не будет выдавливать через турбины. Я это сделал и теперь у меня все хорошо работает.

An outstanding review, you are so right about how a car should make you feel.

One of the top 5 cars ever built. 👍🏻
I have a Autobiography Black, it’s gorgeous. 👍🏻
Huh I wondered what that middle hole between the cup holders was for on my LR 4 Disco. I use it for a small bottle of hand sanitizer
its my favourite car yet,
Fabulous review .. makes me want to go out buy one !!
A dealer not far from me has a beautiful 5.0 supercharged one an a 4.4 TD, Soo tempted
They’re so much car for the money.
I bought my L322 on eBay for £1400.00 mint condition. Best bit it's on LPG so 0.79 p per ltr
The worlds best all round car, fact👍
Agreed. Ed
Dam back on autotrader 🍷👍
