That smile shared by Lynette, Dorinda, and Shirley (Caesar) while Twinkie sang at the end. I’m sure they were all thinking what we think as we watch this video. I wish I could’ve experienced this concert in person. All that talent and anointing on one stage, wow. 🥰
Walter Hawkins and Twinkie were geniuses and way ahead of their time. I really used to hear these songs on the radio with regular slow jams as a child! Especially you brought the sunshine and be grateful!
This is a prime example of how you minister in song and not just sing a song. Newcomers have lacked the purity, spirituality and humbleness of delivery within the song. They don't say Jesus, mostly to catch broad audiences, which on one hand reaches more individuals, yet they are lacking that full gospel goodness that many of us brought up on. These are the songs that you will remember forever and many will be remembered and honoured to songs such as this...would you not consider a song like this for your loved one, something your loved one really drew into, something you can relate to....
If only I could of lived at this time among the greatest people of faith. I was born but I live now when no one has faith! Praise be to God 🙏💫 always and forever,! I'm going away soon!
The Clarke sisters also joined Joe Ligon and Shirley Ceasar at the end. Absolutely beautiful. Inspired and gifted that's what Walter was. Sure do miss him but his music lives on!!!
I love this song and I think that it is hilarious that Walter Hawkins left after he gave Twinkie the mike. She was looking for him and he was moving around in the back of the people seemed like he was doing on purpose.
That's what I call singing. The Hawkins Family, the Clark Sisters, & Shirley Ceasar all on the same stage. This is the type of singing I grew up listening to plus the Winan family!
this man was a genius..Im so thankful for the impact he had on gospel music. He is mow in the arms of Jesus just like he proclaimed in this phenomonal song. May he rest in peace.
He always reased my spirit musically! To really appreciate, get the original version...the extended version. He was God's voice! And yes...this is when church was really CHURCH!!! RIP Bishop Hawkins
Super-spirit filled singers brough togther. When that happens, you know the spirit dwells within. Some would say: "what if there's another concert somehere?" That's the beauty of the Spiritt, it's not fixed ! It can encompasss us al.
Wow! It was the style of gospel music the Hawkins introduced to the world I believe in 1966 with there first album, "Joy, Joy", that inspired me to learn the piano and organ. Such a tremendous inspiration to me over the years. Now I'm Director of Music of one of the top choirs in VA. Rest in Peace Bishop Walter Hawkins.
The amazing thing is...he sounded as good during his last few days as he did in the beginning! Simply awesome. I'm thankful I was old enough to enjoy, be blessed, and appreciate the beginning to the end; and still currently be blessed by his music.
I love you Walter I never met you but I miss you, no one and I mean no one can sing Marvelous like you. So long until I finally get to meet you at the throne of Jesus where we both will praise and give him the glory. Amen
Bishop Walter Hawkins i thank God for your gift and ministry. Your beautiful voice and message was of the love of God, His grace and salvation and mercy. you have fight the good fight of faith and you have finish your race surely there's a crown of life waiting for you my brother. you will be missed, but i know that you're singing 'round God's throne. may you R.I.P. love and peace forever. peace out.
Those pink dresses and his hair make me smile...haha...the time period is clearly evident in this video. I know you are Resting in Love Bishop Walter Hawkins thank for sharing you God given and Divine talent...:-)
This brings back childhood memories. I grew up on gospel music and moments like this. May God continue to bless the Hawkins family and all of you who are apart of this great heritage known as Gospel Music!
his PHENOMENAL & ANOINTED impact on gospel and its listeners will be missed!!! Praying for the Hawkins family that GOD WILL wipe away every tear, and HEAL your broken hearts!

Never thought Bishop Walter Hawkins would "Go Away" SO soon...RIP & prayers are offered to your Family at this time...GREAT clip here of an omitted song from the film GOSPEL from the early 1980's...
KING JESUS IS OWN HIS WAY BODY OF CHRIST , & IT WON'T BE LONG NOW!!! WE MUST BE READY LET'S CONTINUE TO WATCH & PRAY & CONTINUE TO LOVE A LOST PEOPLE [IN CHRIST] THAT'S THE ONLY WAY! WE MUST COME TOGETHER .
man what sentiment, i remember those days like it was yesterday. i knew many of these people personally back then i am contemporary with them. those were the good old. sherly ceaser in many ways seems to age backwards. i remember she looked like a grandma back then now shes well different. young people enjoy your youth and one another in it hold on to it as long as you can. apostle e.w. wilcots once told me the same thing one day you will wake up and that magic will be gone you will just be old!
I so love this song! It makes me want to cry listening to this song! I remember listening to this song as a little girl (born in '81; thanks Mom!). My mom had this album, the vinyl album (I told you I was born in the 80's)....hey, look at Shirley Caesar!!
I remember this song be sang in church. I smile and cried when I heard it on here. I was younger than 7 then and now 34. Such an impact on my life. GOD is good.
justintyme My mother in law ordered this awesome concert on VHS in the late 80's. I was in my early 20's. All the groups were anointed and up lifting. This song helped me get through many of my loved ones going away! Soon and very Soon! We are going to See The KING!!
I rememeber going to church on my own in jr. high & enjoyed it. Back then in the 70's the Hawkins family was the sound. Since i back slid & hear what they call gospel is a big gap for me. I missed that era of gospel, & i struggle to come back to God. But i'm so glad he's on my mind & heart now. I wish i could hear from God, & i will strive to hear his voice.
I love the vamp ( special part ending ) on this song they could have done that even longer great spiritual song. Walter has always and will continue to be one of my favorite artist. Thanxs for posting this.
His ministry should teach us all that if you're faithful as he has been then you can truly sing this song and know where you are going away to. I may be young but I still can say that even this song blessed my soul. I have a hope in Jesus that makes me look forward to being with my Father just as he has. RIP Bishop Walter Hawkins... We'll miss you!!!
These wonderful GOSPEL artist were in there prime before the Lord. FANTASTIC! I emphasized GOSPEL because our society keeps REdefining Gospel, by calling it inspirational, motivational, we are almost combined with R&B (sad) our Sweet Savior is being moved to the back burner more and more.
His music was always a blessing to me and my family. I pray that God comforts the entire Hawkins family, as well as those who were close to them. Thank God we have a Hope in Glory!! My Brother is in Heaven today and his Pancreatic Cancer is NO MORE!! HALELUJAH!
RIP Bishop - I love you and will miss you here... I pray someday we'll meet again. Thank you Lord and thank you for the gifts of Bishop Walter Hawkins.
Sing Karen (Clark-Sheard). She looks so young on this one too. She wearin' that green outfit. This song always makes me feel so blessed. Going back to this song has made me think of HEAVEN MY HOME so much more. Getting caught up in the world makes you forget where your real home is sometimes. Thank God for this song.
I play this CD almost every morning and have for about a year, now. Never get tired of it and his other music. One of God's choir directors. How blessed we are to have the experience. Something to look forward to.
MY OD MY GOD..THIS IS OLDIE-BUT-GOODIE EVENING FOR ME & I AM LOVING THE GREAT GREAT GREAT MEMORIIES...GOD HAS REALLY TAKEN ME UP FROM VALLEY(S), OVER HILLS, THROUGH & OVER MOUNTAINS AND I AM STILL HERE....ALLELUIA....I AM STILL HERE DUE TO GOD'S PURPOSE IN MY LIFE.
