Thank you so much for the review ArtSea! You provided great feedback. The Vulp is by no means perfect, nor was it ever intended to be, but I think both the Wave and the Vulp can live side by side as separate products that people can enjoy in separate ways, which I think is awesome. One note I did have is what you mentioned the Vulp feeling much more "hollow aluminum" than the Wave. Due to my own testing swapping different blades on the Vulp, as well as using Zippy's blade inserts, it's actually the blade that gives it more of a "clink" more than "clack" like the wave does. It's much closer to a "clack" when using a blade with no cutouts, or using the Zippy inserts. Lastly, thank you for being direct about balisongs having a small amount of play/tap doesn't mean that they are "broken". I've talked to far too many people that say that their balisong is awful because they have "unbearable tap and play", and when I ask them to show me, it is LITERALLY... maybe... 1mm of play? And no audible tap? It's insane. XD Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to cover the Vulp!
Glad I got to test it out:) Thanks for explaining the sound difference, I think I was very unsure of how to describe it! I am flipping it now and I agree with the blade giving a “clink” sound for sure. It sounds different than any of my knives so it was definitely what I noticed first. It flips great though, great job overall!
The L shaped wrench is not the pivot needle, it's just exactly that: a wrench. The pivot needle is actually the straight screwdriver bit. It has a torx bit to disassemble and reassemble, but the bit is so long because it's tapered to line up the blade, bushings, and washers in one fell swoop. Then you just pop in your pivots and go. Just wanted to put that correction out there so anybody who buys a Vulp doesn't get the two mixed up. Also the pivot needle works on other balisongs, I've used it to line up everything from my Reps to my Machinewise balisongs and more. I've only run into a few knives it doesn't fit, like my LDY Cygnus.
I got a Vulp, and everyone is right about it being hard to tune and reassemble. There is barely any wiggle room in for the washers to fit. One of the washers was actually scratched, I assume from someone struggling to fit it at the factory.
It just occurred to me that nabalis probably stands for “North American Balis” and it kinda blew my brain for no reason. And I love that you gave a truely honest comparison rather than just making this video an ad for your knife too Also I’m waking up at 3am tmmr to order a midnight wave but I live in Australia where Balis are illegal no matter what, the legislation doesn’t discriminate between materials, blade shape or whether it’s a trainer so even plastic trainers like the squiddy that are just a glorified fidget toy can land you with a fine or jail time in the worst case scenario. I’m half expecting it to get confiscated at customs but I’m more than willing to run the risk of losing almost $200 if means there’s a chance I can own one. If they do cease it at customs tho, hopefully they at least send it back to you so I can get a refund
Hi ArtSea, I live outside the US and the current channels of getting the Wave are inaccessible to me. Are you planning on working with distributors like BladeHQ? Thanks!
I mean, 420 can also be a decent steel if heat treated properly. A good heat treated 440c can be better than a half-assed 14c28n or maybe even a bad s30v.
Flips better than most things anywhere close to its price range to be fair. I literally got one of the first ones ever made (before retail) and even with unhardened screws mine has held up amazingly. Its not made to be groundbreaking its made to be a decent start
I mean it is ground breaking in the sense of price to performance ratio. It is awfully difficult finding a bali that flips as well as it does in its price range. And like it is a full channel aluminum, T10 hardened screws, and jimpings that actually work pretty well it’s really good for what it is. As well as the fact it’s not from a clone company that is nearly impossible to get support for as well as supporting someone who doesn’t steal off of other peoples work.
Will and I never really aimed to make a "groundbreaking balisong". It's really just the price to performance ratio that can set it apart from the competition, and being made by a reliable, non-clone manufacturer. Will and I probably personally have 5-10 balisongs that we think flip better than the Vulp. The goal was for it to be a good first trainer, which is exactly what you said, so I guess it achieved that haha
The vulp is the most hideous design I've ever seen for a balisong. All the colors as well don't look good at all with the accent grip of white. The wave is a beautiful design with it in both colors!

I had zero trouble
I have the Vulp, it's my first trainer. I found the anno to be SLIPPERY. The fit and finish is excellent however. I've been learning a lot with it
Good to know!
Never heard of slippery ano

The vulp does have a big thigh gap. I don't think it's a bad thing, but it is something you notice when you first unbox it.

im about to get into butterfly knifes and this is the one i want, it looks supper well made.
SHEEESHHHHHHHHHHH that knife looks sick! :)
Awesome job Artsy 👏 👍🏻 beautiful blade ❤ love the fact you've made it usable with good steel 👍🏻 sad that sharp flippers are not aloud in New Zealand.
Technically it's dull.. just looks like a live ! (they do ship in dual packages sometimes (cost double the shipping tho)
Твой обзор мне помог определиться с выбором!! Спасибо ❤❤🙋♂
I have weirdly small hands. Would the thinner handles be better for someone with short fingers?
Hi ArtSea,

Can you find out if the wave blade can fit on the vulp handles

The Vulp is overrated. It's not bad, but not that great either. It's a good first trainer but it's not exactly a groundbreaking Bali.
