hey thomas you should ask for the evo 4.4 and 4.2 plz :D
Thomas you need to try the GoldenEar Triton Reference. Amazing value. It sounds as good as good as the £300,000 Wilson Chronosonics!!
@@yimwf I did, maybe they will send me later.
Gosh so gorgeous! I've been trying to get the 4.3 and the Elysian 2's but to no avail...
Amazing Review Thomas!
You nailed it when you said "I buy into high end audio not only because I want to listen to the performance, but I want to experience the performance". That is the the gist of the entire reasoning of this hobby. And it's too bad that most people have moved away from this and do not know what they're missing out on.
Thomas you are a gift to all Audiophiles!
Thujan, I wish I was as good at talking as you are!
@@ThomasAndStereo you are sir!!!!... and it's uniquely as your own!!!.. you talk like we r just chatting with a tea or coffee!!!!....
It took me a while to appreciate Thomas but now I do enjoy listening to him. I give him the total credit for earning respect because of his chillness and respect to others.
And a curse to their wallets
Thomas is a Hi-Fi yoda for sure. He not only vets and reviews equipment , but let's his buddies vet the equipment too, and then examines their point of view face to face! You can tell this man is a true analyst😀
Thanks for a great review Thomas. Full disclosure, I am the Wharfedale rep for Canada. I would simply like to compliment the review style, much as I did for the interview that you did. When speaking to dealers and the public alike, I always point out that there is no right and wrong in audio, as it is perception based. Different people hear and like different things. More bass, less bass, smooth or hyper detailed, these things are easy to change, but to your point, making applause sound like real clapping, or causing you to think that the entire orchestra is in your room and not the speakers, that is more difficult. When the instrument sounds like an actual instrument being played in your room, you know that you have found something special. Sometimes boring is the most exciting thing a speaker can be, if that means it just plays music that sound like, well...music. Thanks again.
Thanks Rich, nicely said.
@@ThomasAndStereo rich, get the man a 2912. Thomas, stop using my buffet analogies.
Yeah once you get to a certain level it is more about personal tastes.
Hi Rich, what amplifiers would you recommend with the Elysian 2? I currently have the Musical Fidelity M6 500i, and am thinking of upgrading to the Musical Fidelity M8xi or Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 600. However, I would like to know what other brand/types of amplifiers work well with the Elysian 2.
Thomas you are a high graded Hi-Fi reviewer, you have evolved from a hobby to a professional hi fi reviewer, you have build your master room for audition, you have tremendous hi fi gears to go with your review, and the most important is you have your hi-fi friends to work as your consultant teams. You are really blessed from god. And we are delighted and admired you for your high quality production, and honest review. I wish you all the best for not only your hi-fi reviews but as for all your works and life. Thank you again for bringing all these hi-fi pleasure to us.
Thanks James for the encouragement, I really appreciate it.
What a strong and well written compliment. I agree 100%
I re-watched this after getting a pair of their cheaper 12.3 towers, and now this makes even more sense to me. Your ability to discuss the complex nature of true high end sound is on another level. These are not easy things to describe, nice work man!
Fantastic, man. Your descriptions are incredible, I can almost touch the sound you’ve heard as you describe the cello, grand piano, the clapping of hands, and even the cough. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you, very interesting- I love the fact that you care to mention these are non fatiguing speakers. You visibly strive to give the most honest assessment and I really appreciate this.
Really pleased for Whafedale, they've really worked hard on some amazing products recently. All real quality.
This channel has to blow up some time soon. Your reviews are excellent. You deserve ALOT more subscribers.
I will go through all your videos and give thumbs up to them all.
The way you are presenting and vocalise your meaning about the speakers is unmatched, and must be appriciated.
I hope the best for you and your channel...
Thank you for your support!
Thanks, I've been waiting for someone to review these!
I hope more people will.
Hi Thomas, thank you for the highly informative review on the Elysian 4. You are a blessing to audiophiles like me, providing valuable opinion and insights to guide our decisions. I recently bought a pair of Evo 4.4 guided by Tharbamar's and Steve Guttenberg's insightful reviews of Evo 4.2 and 4.3 respectively. I am very happy with my decision, as the evo 4.4 provides what i was looking for, a highly detailed and natural sound that is non-fatiguing, realistic soundstage, yet dynamic. To my ears, they offer me a much more realistic and enjoyable sound overall, compared to the B&W603s (which I am now using for my home theater system), and the Magneplanar 1.6 and 1.7 which I owned in the past. Your review now sets my sights next on the Elysian 4 . Thank you
Same here man.. I had EVO 4.4 paired with PS Audio M700..It was stunning.. But since I've watched this video, now Elysian 4 is my goal..
Wharfedale are doing good things lately with incredible value . I recently home demoed the low cost Wharfedale Evo 4.4s. and was very impressed. Bottom end through the twin Kevlar drivers was tight, and expressive. The A.M.T tweeter combined with the soft dome midrange sounded airy and spacious with good vocal presence Very special floorstanders indeed for the price.
Why did you send them back?
Nice!
@@kohnfutner9637 I auditioned many floorstanders at home over a period of a few months. The Wharfedale Evo 4.4s did also have downsides when comparing to other speakers. They where not as fast or dynamic as I prefer and there was some loss in finer details. But the speakers I did eventually settle on have cost nearly double the price of the Wharfedale.
Beautiful speakers! Thank you for the review Thomas 👍
For sale: one kidney. Condition is used. 10k or nearest offer..
Fantastic review (as always). Man, I would love to hear these speakers. Fit and finish is to die for. What a great hobby this is: it will bankrupt me eventually!
Yeah, you should go listen to them at a dealer one day!
Your reviews for me are the best, you owns the ability to describe sensations as no others. Bravo!
Thanks! 👍
Thanks for the review Sir. I listed to the Evo 4.4, I fell in love and kinda made up my mind on which speaker to get. Now you come up with this. One can tell you were impressed with these.
Yup, one day I will check out the 4.4 too.
Only found your channel the other day. Wonderful and easily understandable reviews..
Awesome, thank you!
so crazy how there's literally a speaker for everyone - you love bright analytical speakers and I could not hate them enough LOL - great review
Hi. My first speakers I 1971 were Wharfedale Linton. Had them many years. Loved them.
The short demo is a pure delight !
Building an extension soon, want to get something like these for my new setup, mouth watering! Thanks for the great review and the very interesting interview :)
Glad it was helpful!
Another fantastic job 👌🏼
Always glad to see Wharfies get some love too
Thanks, so far all of the Wharfedale I tried are pretty good.
You just got another subscriber
I am still breaking in a new pair of EVO 4.4 and I was wondering how much of an upgrade would Elysians be. You answered every single question I might have had, and more.
I also like your take on analytical vs immersive listening. Being a musician for decades, analytical listening is something I just had to learn to live with. There was a period in my life when I simply could not listen to music without analyzing every single detail, not just in terms of sound quality and resolution, but also in terms of composition, harmonic structure, performance quality, tempo, all the stuff you pay attention to when recording, but with time I managed to merge the two into a rewarding and fulfilling listening experience.
I am now taking baby steps into the world of higher-end audio and I am loving it.
Such a great review and so articulate. Wish I had the space and the money for these speakers
THATS IT. I heard the sound demo at the end on my iPad Air (128 gb) and was blown away. Tingling in my nether regions,. Ordering today.
Congrats to Stereo and also to Thomas for a fine review! Cheers you guys!
"Specs don't tell you everything, man"😂
Words to live by my friend, words to live by!! Subbed, can't believe I found your channel only now !!
Awesome, thank you!
And seriously, you are the by far best hifi reviewer on youtube right how. Honest, analytical and speaks your truth. I hope the channel gets more attention. I blame you for me geting up too late to work tomorrow 😂
Really enjoying the high end audio review, enjoyed the focus on what style it had and what would be good or bad depending on your preferences. Can’t really ask more from you sir. I really want to hear these now.
Thanks Rob, I try my best to make the video interesting and informative.
Very good descriptions of how it would be like when listening to this speakers! thanks!
Good day Thomas, appreciate the approach and down to earth input. Clearly Canadian. If you ever get to review the Evo 4.4 it would be an interesting comparison. Thanks!
Thomas, great job! Loved all the broll. Really turned out great and I got a good sense of scale and the quality of the finish. Another great speaker from Wharfedale.
Thanks, I just got a new slider and was using it in this video. Too bad I have to send it back due to some issues.
@@ThomasAndStereo it looks great. Sorry you have to send it back, that's a bummer. I hate having to repack and ship. Just really impressed how much your channel has grown over the years. Still fundamentally the same but with much better production and well everything. Great job .
🤯👍💪👌🖖
Thomas just have to be one of your best reviews you have described the sound in the speaker so well I feel I've heard it and felt it your vocabulary has expanded greatly you are truly an expert now in describing sound and gear two big thumbs up👍👍👌👌
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job! Keep up the great work. Thank you very much. My brother loves his pair.
Awesome! Thank you!
Hello Thomas! After having watched a number of your videos, I decided to subscribe to your channel. Your reviews are well thought out, without unnecessary words or 'audiophile' terminology that often gets used improperly and is therefore also misunderstood by people. I think your videos have merit because you seem very decent and honest, rare traits these days I might add.
As for Wharfedale, while I cannot comment on the model at hand, I can say they are a very good company and in fact, a lot older and larger than most people realize. They make everything themselves, including some raw materials, so there are really a handful of companies like that still left in the world. My nephew has a replica of their vintage open baffle 15' speaker which was meant to compete with Quad ESLs of the time, but with much improved dynamics. They take up most of the living room but they are gorgeous-sounding.
Anyway, I just thought I'd say 'Hello' and let you know how much I enjoy watching your videos. Best wishes, Antunka
Thanks for saying Hello and I really appreciate it.
Realistic clapping. I think we have a winner!
I think klipsch does the beat job at recreating and audiences applause. Then again I haven’t heard many other brands even so I think they stand quite tall when it comes to other brands.
This is so true! When I start my Hi-fi road 15 years ago. In my setups clapping was so "plastic"
I just got these speakers a few days ago, and man, your re review is absolutely spot on, damn.
what you said about detail described it perfectly, there's so much detail in tone and like there's many layers to the music, rather than detail in the form of resolution (comparison would be pixels on a tv)
Oh my ... they look great. Very nice review. Anyways ... Happy Birthday!!!
Thank you 🤗
Very well done review. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I'm really digging all these wharfedale reviews on all the channels . For months I kept looking over the Evo 4.1 and 4.2 and figured for some reason figured they where bad. Seriously thinking on pulling the trigger on the 4.1 or 4.2 but reviews are not as abundant on the 4.1 I've had the older diamond series and loved em. As for the Elysian I won't be able to afford them or ever be allowed to afford them if I could, unless wharfedale wants to send me a pair 😁. You lucky dog! enjoyed this review super fun to see their higher end gear in action.
After extensive research I finally pulled the trigger on this. Recieved it 2 days ago and it sounds amazing!!!! I pair it with parasound jc5 and parasound jc2bp pre. Wonderful combo! Thanks for your review which lead me to discovering this speaker!!cheers!!
Congrats on your purchase.
Don’t u find that they have too much bass?
Great review !
Right on time Thomas! I been reading and watching videos for about 2 weeks on the Elysian 2 and 4 and was making plans to order, But a little sceptical I never purchased any speakers without listening And for the last past 4 or 5 years I've been auditioning different pairs of speakers under 10k and narrowed down to Sonus Faber Until I ran across these to watch you being impressed I am sure to place an order.
Thanks.
Just make sure you pay attention to the part I said you have to be aware of and you will be fine. Where are you located that you can't audition them. They should be available everywhere.
Wow! Those are beautiful! I have always been a Bowers & Wilkins guy (currently own 802D2), but wow, I gotta get to the dealer and demo these. I hope they sound as good as they look.
They have a completely different sound than the 802D2. I heard it before, the B&W series is closer to Focal than Elysian 4.
Wow man 😍😍😍 saw 2cellos on the VID love them. Always been WD fan 👍legit!!
They look beautiful. Very nice Thomas.
Great review Thomas. I will be looking at the Cayin gear based on your usage. I like these speakers a lot..maybe one day..or at least the Elysian 2’s if I cant get there 😊
I will be reviewing the Cayin CS100A and 845 too.
@@ThomasAndStereo Excellent. I am an expat living in Sri Lanka so getting gear is somewhat difficult. I currently have Audiolab 8300A integrated, Denafrips Ares 2, Mac Mini, KEF LS50’s so looking at where I go from here back on the audiophile wagon. Like your show. Cheers
Christmas is coming!! I am hoping to be surprised by one of your amps showing up at my door!!!
Still my very best favourite speaker after 11 months owned it. 👍👍❤️❤️
Good review on an interesting product Thomas.

Hello Thomas, enjoyed the review.
Glad you enjoyed it
Agree, the walnut finish is really incredible!
Reference speaker! As you mentioned the mid and top are not pushed forward which masks detail, and many new speakers are like that.Perfect for my room! But much to big. They look fantastic
Great review! I have a pair of Wharfedale Reva 4 and they sound amazing but only with a decent subwoofer. I think that here is the same story cause I listened to B&W 802 d3 and they lack bass as well despite of their size and price.
Man, those are gorgeous!
That's what i told ,my last girlfriend!!!
I've watched your video and the interview at least 3 times (your video review the 4th time now). "Traditional" and yet with so many fascinating innovations and such beautiful finish (albeit out of my budget) at a relatively reasonable price. Luckily, there is the EVO series with so many similar innovative features and even more affordable 😍😍😍
Wow, thank you! I am sure you can listen to this speaker at a dealer or at a show in the future.
@@ThomasAndStereo definitely, but my place is too small for these🤪🤪🤪 but I am interested to see how the EVO 4.2 compare with my Harbeth P3s😊🤭
I didn't know Warfdale was English, I like learning stuff. Having a bass port as a sort of double bottom is a great idea.
What would a review without a food analogy. :)
Thanks, finally someone got it and Thomas was the first one!
That EVERY review of any kind of speaker is "fast, strong, good sounding and so on". Utterly confusing when the same words is used to describe speakers in any price range. :)
Good video!
Haha, Thomas and Food, my upcoming channel, forget HIFI!
they look amazing
My dream pair of speakers. Other speakers might sound good but not many can have an expensive looking esthetic as this speaker. That is very important to me. This paired with Hegel H590 are my end game. TQ for ur review Thomas.
Thanks, the Hegel H590 is something I would love to try one day.
Fantastic content, Thomas, and very well explained too 👍
I'm quite familiar with the superb Wharfedale Elysian 4 speakers. In fact with a number of Wharfedale speakers. I own but unfortunately don't use now the Evo 4.4 ... I'll explain why in a sec.
The Wharfedale Elysian 4's are basically high end speakers of very good value.
The look and finish is beautiful, and in all finishes too. Wharfedale went the extra mile here.
I was also really impressed with the Wharfedale 11 series. A lot of research, money and high end tech was focused in the right places, especially the floor standers. Sadly not a lot of decent exposure or pro reviews, and now the 12 series is launching with the 11 series fast becoming a missed (discontinued) opportunity. Here's my crazy moment, and a spanner in the audio works of common sense ...
Want a pair of Wharfedale Elysian 4's on the cheap ... Well, maybe not the finish but in sound the Diamond 11.5's are very close in many respects, practically the same size cabinets and drivers ... Most never discovered that if you treat them (the 11.5's) like high end audiophile speakers they actually sound very high end indeed. At 34kg per speaker and built extremely well the finish is the only obvious compromise considering the price (though not that bad with piano gloss front baffles)
The Evo 4.4 is fabulous in the mid/upper mid and lower treble which makes them sound incredibly detailed but also very "HiFi" in overall presentation, which many apparently love. Frequently extremes i.e. real Bass and top end seem to take a back seat to my ears.
The Wharfedale Elysian 4's are superbly balanced in their presentation as you noted Thomas i.e. no frequency dominates with its seamless integration making almost any well recorded track sound believable and enjoyable.
The Diamond 11.5's can achieve a very similar presentation - including that fabulous bass extension.
But you have to treat them just like a pair of Elysian 4's to expose their potential.
Well, there's my moment of madness. The Evo 4.4 are going to my second eldest son as a gift tomorrow ... Maybe the bug will bite giving us a common interest 😅
I see, thanks for the detailed comment Chris. I have to try the Evo 4.4 one day.
@@ThomasAndStereo
Thank you, Thomas. Though thin on the ground, it would be very interesting if you managed to find a pair of Diamond 11.5's ... I added a pair to my collection but had to source from Germany (high end retailers now friends)
I have about 17 pairs of speakers in the house now ... and I'm still married 😂
Haha and I thought I have a lot.
In my advancing age, I appreciate a good top end and clean mids: the bass really is secondary: I like bass, but I don't want it to overpower the music. Bass is for authority, emotion and excitement, etc. but does little to bring actual enjoyment and pleasure for long listening sessions. The best listening IMO is done at low volume but where you can still hear all the nuances and details of the music. I also enjoyed it turned to true to life levels, or a level that seems true to life to me.
Low volume listening benefits hugely with excellent deep full bass. All the nuances and details need the bass as the foundation to float upon and flourish.
@@johnlong9862 You're so right. I have Wharfedale Linton speakers to do exactly this and they're quite good at it. I'm sure the higher-level Elysian 4 will do an even better job.
Wow, those are beautiful!
They are!
Hi Thomas. I've heard other reviews of these speaker's and nothing but praise can be said of them. I wish my room was large enough to cope with these beauties, as they sound ideal for what I'm looking for in a speaker. I'm hoping that their baby brother would be ideal in my room, but I'm probably going to need to go for the Evo 4.4's instead. Great review once again.
Thanks, I wonder if the EVO line will have the similar sound characteristic.
@@ThomasAndStereo maybe a sound comparison should be done with the Evo 4.4 and Elysian's ? I wonder who would do such a test? 🤔
Thomas . You explained how end sound quality should be . Best review review you ever did ..
Thanks for the compliment.
@@ThomasAndStereo I really loved your old initial days videos and then now I see .
Hey Thomas, looking forward to your sound clip videos of these fine speakers using the amps you listed from cayin, ARC and modwright / moon if not mistaken.
On a side note and based on some youtube videos. I guess I found a pair of speakers that scales as big as my vintage tannoys.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks Chris, for the Cayin, the sound demo at the end was filmed with the Elysian. Modwright and Moon are not in my system anymore as my friends have borrowed it.

Thomas, thanks for the response. The Focal Electra 1028 be speakers seem a bit small for 21 x16 with 11 foot ceiling That is an open format to other rooms.
looks absolutely beautiful...
It really is!
@13:41 sounding good on my Klipsch 450c (I have all other speakers turned down to adjust the center).
It sounds like the instrument is dialating and contracting, getting bigger and smaller and moving around in a circle side to side. That sounds like crazy way to describe sound but that's the impression I got. And the bass was tight, immersive and powerful, not over done or bloated. I heard the direct strike of the drum and the decay of the diaphragm going back into resting position: a nice little hold over of thunderous boom after the pow strike of the kick peddle / drum stick / hand. Can't tell what actually stuck the drum to make it bellow.
Typically this is more to the credit of the speaker you have than my own speakers, or at least, 50/50.
whats the name of that track?
great review! Any recommendations on amplifier matching the speaker?
"Two Cellos" is great. Hauser's more recent solos are even better-stunning videos on You Tube!
Hi Thomas. I would like to pair them with some seriously good me.Thanks for the video.
an awesome speaker sir, wish i could have one
Great review, with lots of details.
Do you think I can use this speakers with my ML 845 premium? it's a 30w 300b tube amp
Looks like Christmas came early at Thomas's house! Although whenever I see the mega buck speakers I'm reminded of a friend in the speaker industry who told me that no speaker that is mass produced costs more than $1K (at most) to produce due to economy of scale, no matter what the retail price tag is. But free is hard to beat. Cheers from Denver!
Maybe that is material cost, once you add in Labour, r&d and more, it will easily be over $1k
@@ThomasAndStereo True, and if its worth it then it's worth it. :)
Thanks so much for this Review! I am able to get a good deal for these speakers but i'm not sure if my amplifier is able to power these to the best. I have the Cambridge Audio CXA81 , do you think it would work well with these speakers? I know it's much cheaper than the Amplifiers you have tested it with so that's why I was wondering if it would sound well at all...
Hi Thomas, love your reviews. I've been looking at this for awhile. Would my room 4.5m x 3.5m be too small for this pair? My biggest concern.
A nice description of the sonic presentation. At this level of fidelity it’s about filling the room with sound and a convincing representation of the performance space. Sadly for many of us we don’t have the space to even consider such a speaker. Did you try it with any other DACs other than the Burson?
Yes, it did not work well with my Exasound. With my meitner dcc2, matrix mini pro and Gustard x26, it was better. I forgot to try it with my McIntosh C47.
@@ThomasAndStereo / I’ve never heard you talk about vinyl. Does that mean your sources are purely digital?
@@TorToroPorco Yeah, I do have a turntable but never got the chance to use it.
Who lit a fire at Wharfedale? LoL What a stunning speaker. Goes without saying, another great review! I love your description of a more neutral presentation allowing you to explore the soundscape.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review thank you , please can you say in your experience how this may compare to the KEF Reference 3 or what else is comparable. Would love to hear some comparative thoughts with other similar speakers. What would you compare with ?
Thank you for your great insights into the hifi world. I am curious as to how the Cayin CS55A integrated amp performed with the Elysian 4s, what modes did you use (ultra linear/triode) and is it a good match for these speakers in your opinion. Thanks again Justin.
I used ultra linear but I felt the Cayin CS100A had better control. It sounds ok but I would drive these speakers with better gear.
He said it best. Its a matter of taste, and for me. They sound beautiful and look gorgeous. These are speakers to keep and enjoy for the next 10 years. I would have think hard which color to get between gloss black or walnut? They are on my radar.
DID you buy them? Thoughts!!!
@@xsamitt, no I purchase Elac Vela BS 403.
Thomas with the b-roll, steppin up
Another stellar review. Quad is the best ‘sounding’ speaker I have ever heard. I once owned a quad bookshelf speaker. May be quad and warfedale has the same typical British philosophy in producing the sound.
Have you ever tried categorising speakers by country of origin. Like British speakers, German speakers, Japanese speakers .. and so on.
Country? We talked about it. In the past, it was more distinguish but these days, the line has blurred. Peter Cpmeau, the one who designed these Elysian manages the QUAD line. He actually was using Quads as a base.
@@ThomasAndStereo oh ok got it
I sold the Quad Z2 to get the Elysian 2. Both great sounding, but of course the E2 is moving more air and has deeper bass, and that makes a positive difference.
Couldn't afford these but I picked up a pair of EVO 4.4s. Should be fun!
Im sure youll be happy. I picjed up the evo 4.4s and im a happy puppy.
That's a great analysis of the Elysian 4, thank you Thomas !! What are your thoughts on Dynaudio speakers in particular the Contour 60i as it is in a similar price range with the Elysian 4. Thank you.
I have never heard those but I am supposed to eventually get the Evoke to review.
Great review.
Is it in same league as the canton reference 3.2 dc?
I really love the way cantons make music breathe.(what a bass response...dynamic and powerful)
I would compare Canton more the Focal.
I'm here as I promised. I'm going to listen to the video and play with the equalization of my Klipsch rp450c and try to get the voicing right. Once I get that dialed in, I'll adjust the rest of the speakers relatively by the YPAO flat settings.
Thanks, I saw your other comment.
Thanks for the great review. I like the Elysian 4's, but my listening room is very small (11ft x 12ft). Therefore, I've been looking into the Elysian 3's, but I haven't been able to hear them yet. Have you listened to the Elysian 3's, and if you have how do they compare to the 4's?
What would you say is the key difference between these speakers and the Elysian 2’s? I don’t have an enormous room and I am thinking that the 2’s would be better for the size. Great review.
@8:33, describes exactly the standout quality of the E4 over virtually all else in that price range. Audition this speaker with strings based music and the experience with cello and double bass is like nothing else. For that alone, the admission price is worth it for this speaker. To get anything comparable expect to go into the $25k plus price category.
