I agree completely with you! Fans of Thomas helps with determining the future of the series and the returning characters are amazing! Also I theorize that the creative collection might motivate the team to put in even more returnees like BoCo, Duke, Stepney, SC.Ruffy, Fred, Rickety, Jock, Frank, Ivo Hugh, and so much more!

You've actually made a valid point, and these points are what the current series lack, because most of the stories are more to do with the 'Steam Team'.

in an odd way its like some are skipped yet others kept getting numbers. I don't recall the ep Emily came in the original but it was like back then it was all growing, and its why he went and got more and some were saved and given numbers as they were the fat controller's engines, yet notice Diesel don't have one, as he was brought in yet now seems to be owned by him along with the other diesels on the railway. don't have them. besides Philip, who is 68, witch we never got answered on why he was named that.

I'm more annoyed with the people who're hating on the returnees, calling them forced and/or fanservice.
They should really chill out on poor Duck - Season 20 has shown the writers got the message about not making him mention "The Great Western Way" ever so constantly. And I say the Daisy episodes are well deserved - she hasn't had a role in FOREVER (as well as a certain Co-Bo Diesel...). At this rate, she might be the first character to have more CGI/Modern era appearances than her Classic era appearances.
Returnees aren't all I care about, one of my wishes is what the ending sums up perfectly: No Thomas. Please. Not even a cameo. For at least one or two episodes. That's all I ask for. He made many cameo appearances in places that he *DIDN'T NEED TO BE.*

Mavis was the only classic train apart from Diesel (although he was used in the new series) and the steam team to appear in season 13 onwards (don't forget Toby)

It felt right for Duck and Oliver to be in Blow Away. Isn't Arlesburgh the top station on Duck's branch? I agree with everything you said in this video. Returning characters aren't for fanservice, but to show that the railway has lots of engines working. Imagine Thomas being everywhere. We would be sick of seeing him (we probably already are thanks to S19 and currently S20), so that's where the returnees would come in. Returning characters are special.

Some returnees may be for fan servicing like S17-18 Duck and Trevor in S20, I'll agree on that, but it at least shows that Sodor is a productive and busy railway.

Terence and Bulgy Returned in Season 21
The next time a character comes back someone should remember who they are, but not their name, for the whole episode, not as the main plot, but just as a side thing, but then someone else says the returnee's name at the end and then the one who couldn't remember is all like "DEREK! Thank you…"
9th Doctor, The Cheese God of Cyrodil they did with bulgy
One complaint I've had on the newer seasons over others was the overabundance of new characters while several old ones had been mostly forgotten. Now, for the model series, I could probably understand that some of the model of the characters had been lost or broken, or maybe they didn't work right for the scenes they've wanted to shoot. However, with the show being fully CGI now, there really isn't any excuse for there not being any CGI models of every old and new character, especially with how long the show has been CG. Now, the opinions and explanation in this video does make the idea of some characters not getting as much screen time anymore a little more bearable, but I still say there should at least be character models of every character that has appeared on the show made by this point.

I've been trying to tell people this for a while now, but they never listen, thus causing these petty childish debate such as engine shipping or which characters should get more attention, personally, I think they're forgetting about how the series was even formed, instead of being childish and petty over the stories, why not just read the book of Thomas The Tank Engine Man or the Railway Series?

Anyway, this was a good video, you're just like the more positive version of SamTheTrainFan.
And you had really good points too, along with great support. I personally prefer fan service when its either more subtle, or used as a plot device, so even though Duck mentioning Donald and Douglas' absence was funny, it did bother me as it took up time that could've been spent of the story.
Isaiah Williams he Mentioned his Name was Montague, but Anyways, Henry's Hero was his Only Episode Not mentioning Either of those things until Blown Away.

When I first saw flying Scotsman return, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I completely agree with you here. Bringing back the original characters from the classic series is a great decision on Brenner's part.
I think what you outlined makes a good deal of sense, sort of like the spiritual successors to the random trains moving about in the background in seasons 1-6. for example, in "Old Iron" as James pulled up to the signal box before his runaway, a passenger train was moving by on the bridge behind him. we never saw who was pulling it, but it still had the implication of "James isn't the only engine around. Other things are happening."
I feel like that went away during the "Miller era" to make sure focus stayed on the "main character" of the episode, and is only now starting to come back.
I really don't understand why the fan base has the complain about fan service.
I love seeing returning characters.
BTW I won't mind it if Stanley got an episode to himself.

People have been hating on Daisy for appearing too much? That literally makes no sense. If I remember right, a huge problem with seasons 8-16 was the exessive focus on the steam team characters, especially Thomas, and now people are hating on the show for expanding the focus beyond the quote "Main Characters" unquote. I just dont get it.
I know its sad, but there is always going to be people who absolutly love to put a negative spin on EVERYTHING. All you can really do is ignore them. On a side note, I would personally love to have some of those "Made for Toys" characters like Molly and Neville be brought back as well. They all said so little, and their personalities so vague that the possibilities with them are pretty much endless.

I had a confrontation with a current Daisy hater the other day. They said she appeared to much, her theme was annoying, and that she was out of character which I don't get at all. So being the nice person I am, I gritted my teeth and said this is the first time she has appeared in a long time and that to small children she is new. Let's just say some people can not be pleased no matter what you do.
Well for one, That song really isnt Daisys theme, its the theme of the Harwick branch line, and 2, Im guessing when people say she's out of character, it is because they have Railway Series Daisy in mind, but in the show, she was only ever in three episodes in the classic series, whereas RWS Daisy appeared many times and had a bit of an ark, where she became more mature, unlike on TV, where she was never given the chance. Honestly, I really perfer Snobby, Stuck up TV show Daisy. That persona has a lot more story potential.
I prefer snobby Daisy too. But who knows, maybe they'll give Daisy her own arc too. I highly doubt it though.

I personally don't care if the returnees don't play very major roles in the episodes they appear in, as long as they appear anyway. Also, the writings have no intention of featuring the 13 new characters from The Great Race again in the series, I think we should at least see The Flying Scotsman, and Ashima again, who's with me.

idk why but when i was little i thought that since they looked so similar i thought Boco and Daisy were husband and wife. (i believed from the time i was 2 to the time i was 5)
My main problem with the show arose when they dedicated the show to the steam team instead of all the other engines on the railway that they could've used.
as a former fan of the show i have really liked of how many characters they've brought back many of the ones i grew up with like duck oliver toad donald and douglas bill and ben and daisy (sort of lately i've been starting to prefer the secondary characters to the main characters just cause of the way Mattel has changed the mane cast not all the secondary characters just most of the ones from the older episodes and some of the ones andrew brenner introduced even my collection of the models bachmann has made i've bought are the secondary characters (which i've already said duck donald and douglas oliver toad bill and ben mavis and diesel and also s.c ruffy and the spiteful break van which the last two have not apperad in the show for a number of years and only appeard in one episode each where they get destroyed and i know mavis and diesel have appeard in nearly every season and special i think it's nice that they are still featured) and i really want them to return boco and stepney (not asking for fan services it's just they haven't appeard in the show for years except stepney was last seen in season 12 and he should come back) and it would be nice for bachmann to make stepney boco and daisy too (i would like them to finish making the last few classic characters and if they could also make the diesel that was in bowled out and also maybe have him return with the other i said that should come back)
I think Brenner wants to form less able characters in the classic era first take toad. Just think, Toad didn't have lots of personality but look now. Formed characters in the classic era like duck and Oliver are feeling more and more that they belong there

People can say what they want but I think it's cool that they bring back a lot of characters, I mean I mostly prefer the models but it's still okay and I do hope they keep bringing back a lot of others like stepney, duke, boco, Derek, Caroline, bulstrode, old slow coach, George, the rest of the pack, Arthur, Murdoch, fergus, molly, Neville, Dennis, Billy, hector, Bertrum, tiger moth, Elizabeth, might mac, fearless Freddie, Jeremy, Madge, and lady.

Thats the main reason why I hated the Steam Team Concept.
This is actually something I've been wondering for myself, as well. Well actually, I stopped watching the show at eleven because I thought I was too old. Then, I got back into watching it later and saw how awful seasons 8-16 were, and I saw why I stopped watching it then. I thought the series going into CGI was just a selling point because of how popular CGI is, but now that I see my favorite character Duck character come back, I wonder if I was wrong to call CGI a selling point? On the other hand, everyone has said that his appearances in the CGI series are just done for fan service, so that makes me wonder if those guys are wrong, don't know what they're talking about, and I should tell them off, or was I right all along about what I said about the CGI series? I'm a little torn right now. You did a great job bringing up valid points here. I really got a lot of thinking to do, after seeing this.
I don't mind whether an old character like Oliver, Daisy, Bill, Ben etc speaks or has a secondary role in an episode, but if they speak and play a supporting part it's a bonus. I'm happy Daisy is appearing more as she is one of my favourites. I'm personally hoping that BoCo, Derek, Fergus, Arthur, Neville, Molly, Terence and Murdoch will return to the series. There's so many characters now it's hard for them to appear reguarly, I personally would like the newer engines Rosie and Charlie to speak and get more development.

5:20. That's true. Looking back, that's an issue I noticed in Season 1, and it becamse even more noticeable in the Adventure Begins. Sodor might not be all that big, but I find it difficult to believe that only four engines were working on the island before Thomas arrived.
Russell Streak on the bright side TAB confirmed that Thomas wasn't the first engine that came to sodor. Awdry himself said he did, but Andrew Brenner showed it was false. I personally never bought that. Thomas can't be older then Gordon and Edward. Check out The Unlucky Tugs review of TAB for more on that.

The new Thomas series will be better if we brought back the OLD characters. and took away some of the NEW characters that rarely appear in the series. and I thought Montague (Duck) was part of the steam team not Emily.

Duck was planned to be added into the Steam Team, but was replaced with Emily because they needed to make room for a female character.

Little nitpick: Bill and Ben got an episode in Season 19 too (though I guess it was technically Timothy's episode). Also, I don't think it's a case of whether or not the appearance of returning characters is or isn't fan service (because, let's be honest, it is), but rather a case of whether it's good fan service or bad fan service, and I think, most of the time, the fan service we get is good. Occasionally it can feel a little forced, but unless it seriously distracts from the story at hand, I don't mind it.

I love this series
I think to explain to younger viewers they should recreate in cgi some old episodes such as escape. As well I agree, I don't know why duck has so much hate though before being quite a good character but now in season 20 they have made it slightly better for fans who think duck is just fan service, I think this is shown best in blown away as they added something to ducks personality that a lot of fans thought would probably never happen duck actually being generally rude to another character
I honestly think the stories of Enterprising Engines should be given a The Adventure Begins treatment. Just imagine what that would be like.

Yeah just using 7 characters in the show was one of the main problems with Seasons 8-16. I am glad these characters returned and hope to see BoCo, Duke and Terence return by Season 21.

I feel Like Returnee Characters, are simply just That, Characters, just a Character that hasn't appeared in a while, you know Technically, Harold, Salty and Whiff, and Diesel 10, were all Returnees in Misty Island Rescue.
I agree with all of your points, I think your theories in this video are right on. Also, I'm okay with fan service. Lastly I hope they bring back Boco. I thought they would have, or should have brought back Boco before Daisy, but that's just me.

In the Thomas And Friends CGI Series i think the characters such as Harvey,Bill Ben Donald Douglas,Duck,Oliver,Toad,Trevor,Terrence,Bulgy and Daisy only return for fan service

I understand that the Main 7 have to be on the show. but I don't want to show to revolve
