A great house and a very beautiful place, I would live in such a beautiful place, I love Thailand very much, every year I came from Russia to bask in the tropics, but then covid began and I had not been for 3 years. You have good English!
@JON thanks for sharing, very impressed as an architect with 40+ years experience around the world, hats off for getting it built and furnished for about $10k. You know all about tropical comfort and make houses worth learning from. Your country looks like a good choice along with Portugal for rural farming and semi retirement.
Thank you for showing us around your house. I've never been to Thailand but have spent a lot of time in Fiji where the houses are designed for the hot weather. I live in New Zealand and just got a quote for a glass sliding door, with windows (4.5m wide), to convert a garage into a room - it was $12,500. A whole house for $9,000 is very good!
Great design by the young man.! Could the young man share with us what informs his decision to come up with a wonderful design of a tropical house. Jon, I saw a picture of a table you made out of an old door, the faded green colour is looking good. Can you take us through the processes, It is unbelievable. Well done, the designer and builders.
1) use swales to capture rainfall instead of letting water run off. 2) grow crops that are not water intensive, that are drought toletant. 3) use mulch and cover crops to keep the soil covered which minimizes evaporation. 4) use drip irrigation to make efficient use of water 5) water during evening or early morning, rather than daytime when water evaporates quicker
Great video, and very inspiring. My only thought is how you plan to take care when you are old? You need money pay for retirement homes, food etc when you cant do work yourselves
Can you make a video explaining how the run-off from the pond is used? Do you grow food on raised beds in between the ditches? Or perhaps a video discussing the movement of water through your farm?
It's a beautiful house, but I have a question what will you do when it has strong windy or a storm? My wife' parents ' house is in the eastern of Vietnam. When it has strong windy or storm they need to cover the house and conect the house pillar with the rope.
We built a few earthen houses like this on top of rocky mountain 10,000 feet from the sea level. The wind there so strong sometime it was about 200 miles per hours but the houses are in good condition more than 10 years.
This house is 4x8 meters but we pour the concreate floor 4 inches thick with wire net and the is 5.30x8.30 meters so we can have some space around the house. The size of the brick is 4x8x16 inches.
We have less mosquitoes than other place because of the pond. If the pond is clean there is no aquatic plant mosquitoes have no place to hide then fishes will eat them all .
This is earthen house with good bamboo roof and now we add metal sheet on top to make it last long. It is cool inside in a very hot day. We have fans but we don't use fans often only when we have many people. We love to have solar panel but it cost big money . We connected to the grit now.
Comfortable, simple, enough, and inexpensive. Perfect for life! No need for more...
Omg. Look at the view
That house looks beautiful to me.
Extremely beautiful.
Thank you Jon, I wish you touch on the roofing another time. I just acquired 7 acres of land right here in Ghana. So glad uve been a role model

Thailand is blessed with a tropical climate . I came from an arid drought region . Jon how to do farming in dry conditions, any tips?
1) use swales to capture rainfall instead of letting water run off.
2) grow crops that are not water intensive, that are drought toletant.
3) use mulch and cover crops to keep the soil covered which minimizes evaporation.
4) use drip irrigation to make efficient use of water
5) water during evening or early morning, rather than daytime when water evaporates quicker
plant trees, check dry farming techniques like tomatoes etc

Beautiful house. What happens to sewage and waste water?
its nice, but i feel it will have trouble from large wind/ rain, insects
don't you have issues with mosquitoes by having a pond underneath?
We have less mosquitoes than other place because of the pond. If the pond is clean there is no aquatic plant mosquitoes have no place to hide then fishes will eat them all .
How do people stay cool in such environment? Can solar panels provide electricity for small air conditioning?
This is earthen house with good bamboo roof and now we add metal sheet on top to make it last long. It is cool inside in a very hot day. We have fans but we don't use fans often only when we have many people. We love to have solar panel but it cost big money . We connected to the grit now.
Don't you have problems with mosquitos being so close to the pond?
If he has fishes and /or frogs in the pound, there should be no problem.
I don't understand such obvious questions!
How abt snakes? You dont hv problems with snakes crawling fr the pond?
Beautiful house 🏡
What about mosquitoes?
