    Thank you for such a comprehensive overview of what this compact sub will do, will not do and should never be expected to do.
    For editing of archive material, which I shall be digitising before the whole, very large analogue archive is sold for university use, I find that enough is the goal of the task and that smaller subs such as this have an important function.
    Currently, subwoofers for so-called "audiophiles" are madly expensive and stuffed with software dependent electronics which will only last as long as the companies do. Much of the price is based on the 'furniture' element much more than shifting air using simple physics in a given space.
    Your comments about the "sub crawl" made me smile because we have all done it and trial and error will lead to the right placement more certainly than fiddling with an 'app' on a mobile phone.
    Briefly on "port chuffing", I recall decades ago when working with the BBC (as relaxation from my day job) and seeing engineers concocting diffusers from many materials to slow down displaced port air and avoid the effect. On the whole they agreed that if an occasion required very loud bass and transsonics then bigger was better or using a Voight tube design but they also said that human hearing apparatus could be damaged by such anyway.
    Use cases were quite rare and tended to be during the Stockhausen era and the famous cellar sessions with such as Hendrix and Zeppelin. They wore ear protectors and so did the musicians.
    In recent years recording and mixing of 'pop' music has drifted towards artificial loudness after various types of compression of separate mic inputs from different instruments and voices.
    Low frequencies are added to depending on the type of music being sold and replicating what is streamed or on a physical labeled product in live performance.
    Subscribed.

    thanks for review, you are bang on with the 38Hz, on Edifiers own page for the T5 it gives the frequency response as 38 - 200 Hz !

      You're welcome!
      I'm still using it and we're what, nearly 6 months on now from when I did this video. Very happy with what this Sub does for the price I paid.

      I’m just about to buy one _ it seems great value, I already have Edifier 1280T bookshelf speakers hooked to computer and have been wondering how to add some decent bass, on a budget.

    Thank you for sharing your experience after a year of use. I am looking for a small sub option as I am currently renting a room and already own some Edifier speakers that I managed to find on a really good sale, the S3000 pros. I found that after borrowing a friends 10 inch sub to try out it was just to boomy for a smedium sized bedroom. I'd imagine I would have more luck with a smaller unit like this as I will have more places I can fit it for a better overall experience. It is a pity I can only find them in grey but hey, function over form. Cheers

      @Honosuseri  9 місяців тому +1

      You're welcome! The grey isn't so bad, it's pretty neutral so fits in with most colour schemes and you'll probably have it hidden away out of sight anyway. As I said I have mine turned down very low and still I'm very happy with the bass I'm getting from it for my room.
      All the best with your setup.

    So the crossover is still sending all the frequencies bellow 100hz to your satelite speakers? Seems like a missed oppertunity if thats the case as you relieve a lot from your main speakers allowing them to play louder with less distortion if they don't have to push out lows which most ppl will benifit from in the budget space for sound.

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  8 місяців тому +1

      No my KEF satellite speakers are connected to an AVR. So the crossover set on that stops them getting below 100Hz, the subwoofer is hooked up to the AVR and takes care of the low end frequencies.
      Any powered speakers connected to the subwoofers RCA ports however will get a full range signal. The subs crossover dial doesn't change the RCA output from there.

      I read in reviews that this subwoofer doesn't have a built in crossover, the rca in and rca out is basically just a rca splitter, it doesn't change the frequency (I wished it did though), you could test it by playing a 100Hz tone with crossover at 160Hz and see if the 100Hz tone is played by the speakers. I wasn't able to test this myself yet.

    I recently bought this because my Infinity died :( It is nice overall, it does the job until I find an amp for the Infinity and then the Edifier is going to the bedroom :)
    I must say that +10db for the sub is way too high, and that's probably why you are keeping it at a lower volume. I give mine +3db and I'm close to half way on the actual sub and also my crossover set in the AV receiver is 80Hz. I think that's the "magic" number that blends everything well for me. Of course I'm not saying that your settings are wrong or anything of that sort, just sharing mine. What works for me doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for everybody.
    I haven't experienced any problems with waking up the sub, you don't need to crank up the volume, I think you just need something with a low enough frequency to hit it. The same thing was with the Infinity. It would not wake op on just dialogue and bells.

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  Місяць тому +1

      The +10 dB for a PCM signal is a setting on my Sony DN1080 AVR which by default is "Auto", so it could be on for some users without them realising. Maybe the +10 helps with bringing the sub out of standby, I don't know. It is something a lot of people have mentioned having to crank the volume to wake the sub. Like you I've had no real issue with it but I'm mainly using this for movies not music.
      The Crossover setting will depend on the speakers used with the sub. I gave the rule of thumb method which is +20Hz to the lowest frequency the speaker is rated for. If I put my old KEF Coda 2 book shelf speakers back in then it would be 80Hz, these KEF KHT sat. speakers 100Hz is fine. As I said in the video there is a lot to learn about speakers and setting things up correctly, I can't cover it all in this video.
      Glad to hear you're relatively happy with the sub. I think for the price it's pretty good for near field listening or small rooms. Hope you get your Infinity up and going again soon!

      @@Honosuseri Hey, thanks, man. The funny thing is I just crank mine to +6db because at really low volumes (-50db) and not enough bass it goes in standby. I don't have the mic with my receiver, so I'm setting it up all manually. For small rooms it's a good sub, I couldn't tell it apart from my Infinity, even though it's half the volume.

    I bought the 351db and this t5 sub for 2 subs sounds alright but the t5 sub is better in the way that the bass is heavier the 351db sub doesn't pump as hard due to the built in dsp and no knows on the back of it but still a good combo I'm looking to buy another t5 sub for a total of 3 since they are so cheap.

    Hey, thanks for the review. I’ve just picked up some Q Acoustics M20 and need something (a bit cheaper than the QB12) to help them out.
    Is this going to keep up? 4mx4m room. Am I going to be lacking bass when I stick some dnb on?
    I live in Thailand and there isn’t much else available that’s decent around this price range.

      I'm old skool and prefer Jungle to DnB but I've played both. Alex Reece's DnB classic "Pulp Fiction" and it's throbbing bass line sounded good with this T5.

    Hello, thank you for the video! I bought this subwoofer and wanted to set it up but have a problem with the volume dial. It goes from silence to already too loud for my setup, there's no in between no matter how slowly I turn the volume knob. Is this normal or is this a defect? Thank you.
    And by the way I read in reviews that this subwoofer doesn't have a built in crossover the rca in and rca out is basically just a rca splitter, it doesn't change the frequency (I wished it did though), you could test it by playing a 100Hz tone with crossover at 160Hz and see if the 100Hz tone is played by the speakers. Is this good for watching movies and tv shows for a small 5.1 setup? I just want something that makes me feel the thump in my chest you know

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  2 місяці тому +1

      "Feeling the bass" is infrasonic below 20 Hz. No this Subwoofer doesn't do that BUT the sound is good for the price. I'm very happy with it for movies and TV, adds an authentic rumble and makes my other speakers in the system sound fuller.

    Is this conected to a pre amp as in the instructions it says you cannot do this ?

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  4 місяці тому

      No I'm not using a pre amp. They are meant to boost a weak signal to then go into a power amplifier that drives loud speakers. I have an Audio Video Receiver (AVR), it has an amplifier built in and has 2 subwoofer outputs as I said in the video.

    Nice video. Though I think it's a mistake to simply dismis the connecter as ' not the best in the world' its complete and utter garbage which is unsuprising for any piece of audio kit at this price point...its the ob thing to economise on. However spending £15 on a J&D 1.8 m cable 2 male rc to single male rc will improve things dramatically. I have a wiim amp which has an inbuilt sub port and it works really well. I intentionally have the sub in a corner mounted on anti vibration washing machine pucks virtually no money from Timu.

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  7 місяців тому +1

      The point was to let people know all cables required are supplied and I tested with them. No they're not great and yes there are affordable cables with shielding that would be an improvement. Using washing machine pucks to isolate the subwoofer from the surface is a good well known trick. I did make a point of saying people should do their "homework" and learn more to get the best from their equipment.
      Thank you and for taking the time to comment. Glad to hear you also enjoy using this inexpensive Subwoofer. All the best!

    Hello, do you experience any chuffing trough the port on this sub? (I dont want just yes/no for an answer) im talking, with really bassy songs/movies, at high volume?

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  8 місяців тому

      Hello. I did try to explain that in the video. You will get chuffing because of the port if you raise the subs volume too high. Even though I show I have the sub's volume dial very low, I still get good bass to compensate for my satellite speakers lack of it. I am still getting the "rumbling" effect in movies like "Fury", without any chuffing sound from the sub. Hope that helps to clarify things.
