Loved the video Tom, particularly the turbo story. Never caught one, itching to, top of my species list. Lure fishing on a ledge in East Yorkshire, the tide flicked up a small wrasse, which I gladly picked up, otherwise the session would have been a blank. 😂
Hi Tom, great vidio, thanks. I tried using your mackerel pop up rig design on millford shingle bank last week & twitching it back in I caught a nice gurnard too. Btw - it appears to work very well for black bream as well, caught loads of those using it too. Thanks for sharing your designs & wisdom :-)
Well done, sir. Really nice to see such variety at Southbourne. My son and I were either up the beach or down from you, I can't tell precisely where you are, and managed a small undulate ray. Really useful to know that the pop-ups are worth a try even when it's rough, so long as the water is clear. My son really loves the gurnards, so he was very excited to see how many you had. Thanks, as always, for the great video.
Fantastic! I love undulates. Stunning fish. Hopefully things will settle down nicely this week and we can get some good pop up fishing done! It's lots of fun.
Tom. You’ve inspired me to try Southbourne Beach. Could you tell me which car park gives easiest access to the beach. Would like to do an overnight one day next week.

Our own fishing UA-cam legend (should that be leg..end ? ) 😂 Great video again Tom , you seemed to be talking 1st half at 100mph !! Heightened anticipation I'm thinkin 🤔. The Turbot tale is extraordinary,, ...when are you doing the 1 of you walking across the run then fishin Messiah 😂. As always great watch all the way through...no "fillers" well done mate 👍
A few years back I was fishing Hove beaches nothing was happening until my rod nearly jumped into the surf, brimming with excitement heart pounding I reeled in the " fish of a lifetime"... Perfectly ready filleted 68cm salmon... Obviously a spearfisher was having a laugh
Watching you smoothly rewrap your rig onto a winder at the end. Thoughts on reusing same rig or if not what if any bits do you reuse?? Competition time? How many very useful tips can be noticed in a said video? This one is a goody 👍
Thank you, mate. That's a really lovely comment, exactly what I needed to read 😊😊 I reuse lots of my rigs, but never the hooks. New hooks every time for me (well, nearly every time 😬)
Im going camping near the sea later and i want to catch some smoothound rays etc , never done sea fishing I want to use my carp rods but im not sure what rigs to use I'm thinking a "course" bolt ledger rig with a circle hook would be good Any tips ? Nice video
A nice simple running ledger, or an urfe rig being my preference, would be ideal, mate. Circle hooks are great, but not always the easiest to bait up with certain baits. So maybe some normal j hooks too.
Certain baits like crab and mackerel heads can simply be hooked on as you say, but thinks like sandeels (which are excellent for rays) are better mounted on the hook or on a dongle (hair rigged basically!)
It does sink faster than mono, you are correct. However, in lighter diameters like this the difference is negligible, so I prefer to use fluoro as it tends to twist and tangle less than light monos. Having said that, I suspect either will produce similar results, so go with what you're confident using. 👍
We were fishing a competition on Fahan Beach, Co.Donegal. My friend, starting shouting it's taking line!!!!.... Bit of a back story on the venue - Fahan is renowned for Thornback Ray, Tub Gunard and Dogfish. It was pretty poor fishing that day for the 11 member fishing. So back to the story, my friend shouting it taking line!!, I'm thinking Tope (they can be caught further out in the swilly). so he was playing it perfect, until it reaches the steep shelf (15 yards out - we have to fish on low water to reach the gulley for the thornback) and all hell breaks loose. I'm still baiting up at this stage, but noticing the struggle and fish going berserk in 2-3 foot of water. I had visions of the fish snapping off his light snoods and small hook. I ran over and started helping and literally as soon as i got to the fish 10 yards out in 2 foot of crystal clear water it breaks the hook. No panic, I waited for perfect position to hand grab the 95cm Smoothhound as he was trying to steam back out to sea. There is rumours that smoothhounds have been caught here once before but i have never seen one of fahan.
Superb Tom. I love that beach when there is hardly anyone around and a damp day on there in autumn can be amazing fishing
Great film, you do make it look so easy.... I will keep trying. I really appreciate all the tips and insights.
The key to fishing is to keep trying! As the famous quote goes... The more I practice, the luckier I get!
Hi from Lincoln,Great to catch up with your vids Tom and trust your keeping well, Brilliant content as usual,
Hi Nigel. Thanks for watching. We're all keeping well down here, thank you. I hope you're managing to wet a line?
Hi turbot man, great video, be glad when I can get on the rods again , keep the vids coming very good viewing.🎣
Cheers Bri. Nice to see you this morning. Best of luck if you do manage to get out tomorrow evening.
You’ve got to be the luckiest guy alive Tom, only you could catch a turbot that way 😂😂. Great video as always 👍🐟🎣
I was certainly riding my luck that day!
Well done Tom a nice little session with a nice mixed bag, just a shame you couldn't get that bass to top it off 😊
Great video as always again mate 🎣👍
Thank you mate 😁
Excellent variety of fish love the Toms story time 😂 great video !!
Thanks dude 😁

That's great, mate. Well done. Yes, bream respond brilliantly to the pop up rig, they love a bit of movement. Glad you had a good session.

Can't please them all, I guess. I try and be as positive, helpful, and kind as I can, but some people still like to throw abuse. 😪

7 sole! That's a cracking session! Well done mate.
Where else would you recommend to fish near Southbourne for flatfish and rays I’m from Portsmouth enjoying the fishing near there at the moment thanks
Great video Tom, on your pop up Rig what hooks are you using on the 3ft snoods?
Good old size 6 wormer. Great hooks.

Have you tried meditation?
