They released a "children in need " special of Dr who called time crash... its a little 10 minute thing set between the end of this episode and the start of the titanic one.... its brilliant and poignant and recommended to watch (and react to!)
Martha doesn't get enough credit, IMHO. Fer cryin' out loud, she walked the Earth for a year and saved humanity! Even if we never remembered it. 🥰 BTW, I'm really enjoy reliving these episodes through you! I haven't watched them in a while, and seeing your reaction is wonderful!
"The Face of Boe they called me" one of the greatest reveals ever. Although you pieced it together many don't and I love seeing the look on peoples faces when it is revealed.
There is one little continuity error though. In "Utopia", they mention the Face of Bo (Doctor to Martha or the other way round) with Jack right next to them, while they're walking down some corridor. Nothing hectic where one could be distracted, Jack absolutely heard it, and didn't say anything...
Lucy Saxon has a bit of a subtle black eye suggesting that she had been abused by the master behind closed doors so in a way that is a justified reason to why she shot him. She was broken by the master in the year that never was
It's not that. It's as simple as the Doctor said with the TARDIS key, when the perception filter is broken, people will see him for who he really is. She was also under the influence of the Archangel network, and when the Doctor used it, it broke the Masters connection. Lucy was no longer hypnotised by the network, and got her revenge for 18 months of hell.
As you observed, the scene with the Master refusing to regenerate was superb. Both David Tennant and John Simm were wonderful in this episode. I join the chorus of people recommending you consider doing reaction videos to the original UK Life on Mars with John Simm (If you do, don't read any spoilers for it as the ending is a surprise.)
Wouldn't mind seeing reactions to the U.S. version also, which only has a handful of episodes. It's fascinating how so many countries have different resolutions.
It’s a pity you had the face of Boe twist revealed for you but it was still nice to see you smile afterwards. Martha is a companion I now realise I judged too harshly the first time around, for me I missed rose and I felt that Martha being so clearly in love with the doctor too was stepping on her toes- (I was a pre-teen/teenager when these episodes first aired) so I was too busy comparing her to Rose at first to see how brilliant she was in her own right, but by the end of the series I had warmed up to her and was genuinely sad to see her go. On rewatches though it’s so much easier to see how clever and brave she was right off the bat. So much for you to still enjoy coming up! I’m looking forward to it! Thank you for a great reaction.
Chris, thank you for rolling these story arches back to back. I really appreciate that you give us two parters and three parters quickly as opposed to dragging them out over the weeks. You’re the best! A great reaction. Looking forward to you to get into the amazing season 4.
the only thing you didn’t notice was lucy’s black eye when she was handing the master his jacket! it shows how their relationship had turned very sour as the year passed which made her shoot him in the end
That's a fact very often ignored. I think it's implied with her black eye and how the Doctor is living in a tent with a doggy bowl that now the Master has outright won he's got minimal outlets for his sadism, he's wiped out a lot of humanity and is just waiting for his rocket fleet to be built so he just engages in petty nastiness out of boredom.
Both David Tennant and John Barrowman are huge fans of DW since they were kids so when they got the script with the reveal of the Face of Boe they both freaked out. Barrowman used to tell the story at conventions of how he stood by the open window when the episode was first aired waiting “…to hear the nations jaw to drop.”
Martha gets stuck in 1913 for months in human nature then stuck in the 70s for however long in blink and now this happens. No wonder she wants out! haha
So fun fact, the Toclafane exist because of the movie Looney Tunes: Back in Action, if you can believe that. The movie had Daleks in it without securing permission from the proper rights holders, and the owners of the estate were prepared to not allow Daleks to be used in the then upcoming new series of Doctor Who unless they were compensated. Pretty big problem seeing as episode 6 was called 'Dalek' and all. The Toclafane were created as a placeholder in case the situation didn't get resolved.
Tom Ellis went on to play Lucifer in the TV series. He is a great actor as well. Now you need to look up David and John Barrow's reaction to reading the reveal of Face of Bo. They were shocked. :)
I went to a crazy little Dr. Who museum in a little village in Wiltshire last week, and they had Martha's actual iconic red leather jacket, in which she looks mighty fine if you ask me
Glad you enjoyed this final episode. You might want to check out the 8 minute BBC Children in Need Charity Doctor Who episode called “Time Crash.” Written by Steven Moffat, it is a call back to Classic Who and is a love letter to David Tennant for being a Doctor Who fan growing up watching the show in the late 70s and the 80s. Won’t say anymore, but you’ll understand what I mean when you watch it. The episode is set in the gap between the Doctor saying goodbye to Martha and the Titanic smashing into the TARDIS.
This is why Martha is my favourite companion ever. She was way underrated and even hated by some in the fandom. Even though nine is my favourite doctor I didn't see many complaining when there was a change in doctor but the switch to not Rose brought out the worst in some people. I'm sure it wasn't everywhere but Freema did such a great job in this role and now Martha is like the doctor, she saved so many people who will never know about it. Also if deliciously evil is a thing, John Simm did that here. The over the top moments were so fun in a dark way. His death scene with the doctor was brilliant too. Even if you'd never do it as a reaction it's worth watching Life On Mars. He's also recently been in a series called Grace where he plays a detective. Episodes are long so there's only three per season (9 so far).
1:14 The BBC official policy is "only the events in the TV show are canon." One notable exception is the novel "The Story of Martha" by Dan Abmett. It was written in conjuction and released along with the episodes. It describes the events during Martha's year of journey, including why Japan was destroyed. It was not just name dropping there. For Doctor Who, generally the novels and comic books rarely considered "canon". There is no central continuity team. Star Wars did have one before it was bought by Disney (The Star Wars Expanded Universe).
2 months ahead! To be honest season 4-6 are some of my favorite Doctor who eras ever. Season 8-10 where quite I got super obsessed after a second rewatch. Feel like they are not as beloved, but they have a big following. I really hope you’ll enjoy it in the future.
I’m loving season 4! And let me tell you, I’m fairly glad to be moving further ahead because releasing “time crash” after I watched “the doctor’s daughter” was a very good thing.
You're so generous with the way you talk about spoiler comments that are trying to be sneaky. I've been having a blast rewatching this series with you!
The Toclafane were originally concieved of as a replacement for the Daleks if the new series couldn't get the rights (which have been in a weird situation of technically belonging to the writer of the episode they first appeared in for the entire shows history) Doctor Who got to use the Daleks after all, and they got a chance to feature their concept alien here.
Ya even the actor jack didn't know about the reveal of face of bo till the day of the finale when he read the script there's a interview in it might be in the special features on the dvd he absolutely loved it
I absolutely love watching your reactions, I wish I could watch some of my favourite episodes for the first time again, but I still re watch A LOT of times … also, the Captain Jack reveal, I NEVER saw the coming , it was amazing 😍🇬🇧

It would be interesting to watch the American version of this so you can see all the very important stuff they missed out. Even the very first ‘planet Earth is closed’ scene is gone. As a Brit I find it so mad that America will butcher a show just to cram in adverts. On the BBC in the UK we don’t have ads at all

At some point, I highly recommend the Children In Need Special Time Crash. It's set between Last of the Time Lords and Voyage of the Damned. It's amazing, and I can't say anymore without spoiling it.
Truly great reaction as always! I love Doctor Who so much and experiencing your first-timer joy every time you upload has been such a lovely addition to my life. Thank you! And have a good break 😌
@@Kayjee17 Not sure what you are on about. "Lucifer" is an American TV show. So what is that to do with spoilers? With many American reactions to UK TV shows they recognise actors/actresses from somewhere else.
@michael-ll3mi think they more meant spoilers about Martha going from being engaged to Tom Ellis' character to being married to a certain someone else in The End of Time
I gotta say, series 3 is probably one of if not the most cohesive season, all the way through. Everything from the past 13 episodes culminates here-- the science/mechanics of the de-aging machine (The Lazarus Experiment) and the Chameleon Arch fob watch (Human Nature/The Family of Blood), the power of words (The Shakespeare Code), the power of humanity and our beliefs, uniting us all in even the darkest times (Gridlock). Including and especially the themes about genocide and how very *alone* the Doctor is. The whole story is just so well constructed! I feel like series 4 is very similar in the cohesiveness sense, too-- it ties together not just the episodes in its individual series, but a lot of the overarching themes and story points across ALL of the Davies Era series (Eccleston and Tennant).
Oh I feel you on the attachment that just grows and grows with Doctor Who what does companions and regenerations as they come along you go along for the ride. The easiest thing I can say is everyone comes back around in the world of Doctor Who. So you never really say goodbye.
When The Doctor hugs Martha and he's looking down the barrel of the camera. That. That is the face of an ancient loneliness. A song that has played out many times for The Doctor.
Martha deserved much, much better. And good on her for being the dumper and not the dumpee. The Doctor really could have done better, and DT showed that he felt her rejection even though he was not going to go deeper.
The Face of Boe obviously knows that the Master is there because he was there as Jack. He couldn’t explicitly tell the Doctor as it would change events so all he could do was give him the you are not alone clue so he'd realise at the right moment.
I own the show on Amazon and the Blu-ray for the first four seasons. I heard that the American streaming version was cut down for this episode (only this one) so I watched the Blu-ray so I could make sure I had the whole episode.
Martha Jones usually ranks pretty low on my favorite companions list. She's not a bad character, and Freema is great; her arc just doesn't do a lot for me personally, and she didn't get a lot of stand out moments this season. Except this. The woman who walked the worth. Absolutely brilliant. And as lackluster as I find her arc, this was the perfect way to cap it off.
Can’t wait for Voyage of the Damned, but, first, I hope you are planning on reacting to the minisode “Time Crash”. It’s not crucial but I guarantee it’s a lot of fun and worth the watch.
In 'Utopia' Martha said to The Dr, in front of Jack. About how The Face of Boe told him he wasn't alone. Why didn't Jack pick up on the name then. He was stood right there, part of the conversation, not a flicker of recognition. Annoys me every time I see it. lol
Martha was such an underused Companion. Really wish we got more of her out of all the companions. She felt...incomplete...though the longing for uneequited love was a good touch, we just needed more.
OH! OH! The guy that picks up 'Legend' Martha Jones from the beach is played by Tom Ellis! Tom Ellis plays Lucifer Morningstar in the TV Series "Lucifer" (2016-2021 93 episodes)! I recognized him almost instantly! Yes, we'll see 'Dr Milligan' again. Just on a different TV channel in another country. It's all about the Fours... And there's another Four coming...
My one major criticism of "NuWho" is the reliance on "the big red reset button". This was the first major use. For 26 years Doctor Who managed to do stories set on Earth, with major invasions and other things going on, without needing to go for a reset. You get to the point in these new stories where you just KNOW that there's going to be a reset, because the writers couldn't possibly leave things as they are, because the contemporary Earth in Doctor Who is basically meant to be OUR Earth.
I have just noticed the external wide shot of the building (on Earth) where Professor Docharty works is the exact same building (on an alien planet) at the end season 8 episode 8. Ha ha ha, you could have at least done some CGI Dr Who guys to make them look a little bit different!
Good parts and kinda off parts here. Dobby the house elf doctor 😕, floaty god doctor, lame. But man, just as I thought it was getting silly we have that master refusing to regenerate and it was awesome. Then that face of boe reveal…wow! I found this episode all over the place.
This had such a great setup and such a bad resolution. 'Praying' for space Jesus and then reversing the year... Ugghh! Still, now we can move onwards to...
Is it wrong that even tho the master is crazy I have a big crush on the actor who plays him, John Simms and because I have a big crush on the actor I feel more sorry for the character rather than feel anger, yes the master does horrific and bad things which is awful and I understand all the fans who feel anger towards the character and understand that its a traditional plot of good vs evil with Martha being the good and the master being the evil, but the master kinda reminds me of loki, he has the same emotional energy, smartness and the actor is just so damm hot. I can't hate the character because I fan girl over the actor. also I think this is the first modern series were the final that doesn't centre around the doctor, the three part series final focus's more on one Martha and the bad repercussions of traveling with the doctor and two on the master as a character for modern watchers of new who with a back story a great plot-twist at the beginning of the episode and the layers of the masters characters as a hole, because of this the doctor's character gets for me pushed out of the way a bit and I think that even tho David Tennent is a great actor, an amazing human being and always will be one of the best doctors ever, I think John Simms (the master) having more screen time out shines David Tennent in acting ability on this one.
This multi parter was great, but the ending wasn’t my fave. The time lord messiah as I’ve heard some call it I can look past, but the levitating thing was a bit cringey. Martha’s speech about pining after the Doctor also never set well with me as it felt a bit like she was blaming him. I mean, I agree with her reasoning but it just didn’t feel like something she needed to tell the Doctor as it comes of as guilting him. If they wanted viewers to know that was part of her reasoning they could maybe have had shown a brief conversation between her & Jack where she mentions something about her pining after the Doctor being unhealthy.
3 shooting things in this final episode. It’s been 1 years since the master took control Jacks revealed he might be the face of boe The Titanic crashing into the Tardis. lol Try not to look at spoilers next time for the next series. Series 4 is the best series of this era and show.
I know it was unintentional, but some checky comments such as "you've seen Jack Harkness before" ill timed with my having just watched the episode where Boe tells Jack he has a secret immediately made me connect the two incidents. I didn't know for sure for sure, but I didn't really doubt it either once I learned Jack couldn't die. Oh well, nothing has been spoiled in a little while now!
Martha went through a lot. And she is one of the companions that suffered the most without the Doctor even noticing (she was forced to be a maid and be racially profiled, she kept saving the Doctor left and right hell, even in Blink she had to find a job in a shop to support him) All because she loved him so much. She really deserves better.
"She doesn't look that happy . . . " You missed the bruises, then? Although it's spectacular and brilliantly filmed and acted, I don't like the Doctor/Jesus thing. RTD didn't make this work for me. Pity you were spoiled on the Face of Boe reveal. Nice departure scene for Martha. She's off to chase Lucifer. Freema's being getting good reviews in otherwise mixed reactions to the big Romeo and Juliet in London, and I wish I'd been able to get a ticket. Trouble is, I can't stand that director. (Freema plays Juliet's Nurse, not Juliet.) Onwards to Christmas. You should be so lucky! 😉

I am so excited you've made it this far!
As sad as it is to see Martha leave the TARDIS, at least she was able to do it on her own terms, unlike Rose.
the guy who plays Tom is the actor who plays Lucifer Morningstar in Lucifer A great show if havent seen yet
What streaming service are you using because you showed scenes that aren’t in the HBO max version!
@ 1:10 The actor went on to play Lucifer in the TV series of the same name
No matter how many times I rewatch this show... Just wow. What a tragic character the Doctor is.
Annoys me every time I see it. lol
Second verse of 'I can't decide' as the first has swearing.
Martha was such an underused Companion. Really wish we got more of her out of all the companions. She felt...incomplete...though the longing for uneequited love was a good touch, we just needed more.
The sky’s made of diamonds reveal is tragic every time
OH!
So much great stuff coming, can't wait to watch it with ya!!
I love the Jack reveal
Have you reacted to the minisode that takes part between Martha's departure and the Titanic?
Good fun,that one. Time crash.
Sure did! ua-cam.com/video/luLgEGlyRoU/v-deo.html
Watch the mini sode time crash before the Christmas special
I'm going out on a limb, Chris and say that you'll really appreciate Steven Moffat's finales in future episodes.
Martha Jones was always my favorite
I have just noticed the external wide shot of the building (on Earth) where Professor Docharty works is the exact same building (on an alien planet) at the end season 8 episode 8. Ha ha ha, you could have at least done some CGI Dr Who guys to make them look a little bit different!
Watch the minisode before the voyage of the damned, its not very long but it is worth it
hopefully you have but if not there's the mini episode Time Crash after this before the Titanic!!
Honestly, the next time for this episode at the end of The Sound of Drums is legitimately epic. If you get a chance to watch that please do.
Good parts and kinda off parts here. Dobby the house elf doctor 😕, floaty god doctor, lame. But man, just as I thought it was getting silly we have that master refusing to regenerate and it was awesome. Then that face of boe reveal…wow! I found this episode all over the place.
The whole world chanting Doctor felt a little bit too much like "I DO believe in fairies!" for my taste.
Are you thinking of doing reactions to _Good Omens_ and _Staged?_
This had such a great setup and such a bad resolution. 'Praying' for space Jesus and then reversing the year... Ugghh!
Still, now we can move onwards to...
Holy sh't.... Marthas Sister is Renslayer :)
That’s right. She’s great in Loki.
Is it wrong that even tho the master is crazy I have a big crush on the actor who plays him, John Simms and because I have a big crush on the actor I feel more sorry for the character rather than feel anger,
yes the master does horrific and bad things which is awful and I understand all the fans who feel anger towards the character and understand that its a traditional plot of good vs evil with Martha being the good and the master being the evil, but the master kinda reminds me of loki, he has the same emotional energy, smartness and the actor is just so damm hot.
I can't hate the character because I fan girl over the actor.
also I think this is the first modern series were the final that doesn't centre around the doctor,
the three part series final focus's more on
one Martha and the bad repercussions of traveling with the doctor and
two on the master as a character for modern watchers of new who with a back story a great plot-twist at the beginning of the episode and the layers of the masters characters as a hole,
because of this the doctor's character gets for me pushed out of the way a bit and I think that even tho David Tennent is a great actor, an amazing human being and always will be one of the best doctors ever,
I think John Simms (the master) having more screen time out shines David Tennent in acting ability on this one.
People ruined the face of bo reveal? What the fuck is wrong with people. That's a top tier reveal
I really want to I want to hint to things there's just so much stuff and I can feel it's killing me and I love it!
The second half of series 3 was going so well -- until the Master turned the Doctor into Dobby in a bird cage.
I completely forgot that Lucifer was in this 😂
Two companions down.
Yay! So good!❤😊
3 shooting things in this final episode.
It’s been 1 years since the master took control
Jacks revealed he might be the face of boe
The Titanic crashing into the Tardis. lol
Try not to look at spoilers next time for the next series. Series 4 is the best series of this era and show.
3 shocking things in this final episode. For goodness sake. This iPad I swear.
Someone new watching Doctor Who?
I’m in…
"i forgive you." Interesting.
Shame on y'all for spoiling it for Chris about Jack being the face of BOE. I hate people giving spoilers.
Well, in the spirit of spoilers, prepare yourself, as the next series is best of them all. 😊
l hope you decide to start watching classic Who. A lot of reactors are watching it, and I prefer classic over modern. That's just me though.
Lucifer Morningstar and Martha Jones.
I disagree with Martha. If she becomes a legend, that is not wrong.
"She doesn't look that happy . . . "
You missed the bruises, then?
Although it's spectacular and brilliantly filmed and acted, I don't like the Doctor/Jesus thing. RTD didn't make this work for me.
Pity you were spoiled on the Face of Boe reveal.
Nice departure scene for Martha. She's off to chase Lucifer. Freema's being getting good reviews in otherwise mixed reactions to the big Romeo and Juliet in London, and I wish I'd been able to get a ticket. Trouble is, I can't stand that director.
(Freema plays Juliet's Nurse, not Juliet.)
Onwards to Christmas. You should be so lucky! 😉
The doctor revived point is that they are using the master's weapons against him.
It would be great if you can begin eating popcorn during the season finales so we can see you spill it all over the place.
Lucifer?
