      It should do the trick, make sure you keep the lights low during the process as this will really help the med do its work. good luck, let me know how it goes!

    Although the Algexit blurb doesn’t list black beard algae as something it gets rid of , it certainly does ! I’ve used your exact method to do the same. It’s one of those treatments that’s truly effective.
    It takes a little patience, and you do have to see the course through, but it’s well worth the wait.
    Thanks for taking the time to make this video 🙂

      Hello Emma-Jane Scriven, Yes, it is that easy - it will just take time but it will go. Just remember that if it doesn't go by the 4 weeks, reduce your lighting a little more :)

    My Molly, Danios and Ramshorn are not eating them but of I throw an algae wafer or spirulina tabs they eat them within an hour but the black algae they just ignore it.

    • @BigFishLittleFishAquatics
      @BigFishLittleFishAquatics  3 роки тому

      Yeah, just like with humans, fish also have a preference when it comes to eating types of algae. It is unfortunately one of those types that once it is in your aquarium, more often than not, chemicals are required should you want to remove it.
      Thanks for watching

    Idk if this product is any safer, but I was using seachem excel for this for a while, and it killed three mystery snails, all my shrimp, and eventually a Betta fish. I thought it was a bacterial infection at the time, but didn't realize that it was actually the liquid CO2 causing it until I ran out. I have frogs now and they've lived for much longer than anything I owned when using that stuff. I did have one single nerite snail that made it through the whole thing, they're over 4 years old now.

    • @BigFishLittleFishAquatics
      @BigFishLittleFishAquatics  Рік тому +1

      That is surprising to hear that excel caused you those problems, my understanding is excel is an alternative to air CO2.
      The product I share in this video is completely safe for fish, shrimp & molluscs and is designed to target specific algae's.

    • @josephdonovan2123
      @josephdonovan2123 Рік тому

      @@BigFishLittleFishAquatics I did some digging and found that while excel advertises itself as liquid CO2, it's actually an algaecide. It's main ingredient is a concentrated disinfectant often used in hospitals. Killing off the algaes makes more of the tank's natural CO2 content available to your plants, so it functions similarly enough to CO2 that they can call it "liquid CO2." It's technically safe for fish in low doses, but they don't recommend getting it on your skin and it bleached my shirt, so that should tell you something lol.
      The bottle recommends dosing 5ml per 10gallons, but most of what I found in my research says that 1ml should be considered a safe 10gal dose. I was putting a whole capful in and I really only needed a drop. I'm assuming the repeated mild stress of weekly doses just did the critters in.

    Is this product safe for all types of fish and snails?

    • @BigFishLittleFishAquatics
      @BigFishLittleFishAquatics  3 роки тому +2

      Hello Bev Frigon, the packaging of this product claims that it is safe for all types of fish, crustaceans and plants. no mention of molluscs though, I have used this on an aquarium with a Nirite snail with no adverse effects, the active ingredient of this product is 'Salicylic acid' which to my knowledge doesn't harm snails, but as the manufacturer 'Easy-Life' doesn't state it is safe for molluscs, I can't with 100% certainty claim to you that it is 100% snail safe.

    Why didn't you put filter media into a bucket of tank water and the rest of the filter into boiling water? Kills it instantly.

    • @BigFishLittleFishAquatics
      @BigFishLittleFishAquatics  2 роки тому +2

      Never heard about that approach, I'd worry about the boiling water warping the plastic of the filters. Interesting that that has worked for you in the past.

      @@BigFishLittleFishAquatics It doesn't have to be boiling. Just very hot. Dip for about 10 seconds. BBS will change colour straight away. Once you tried it you will be using this method all the time. Rocks or any decor.
