You guys need to see the video for this on UA-cam. David is so over the top! He’s definitely a “showman”. Steve Vai is the lead guitarist on this album. No one can take the place of Eddie, but he’s damn close!

Steve Vai is an AMAZING guitarist, but the way he meshes with Billy Sheehan on bass and Greg Bissonette on drums is what really makes this special. I love every song on this album, but “Going Crazy” and “Shyboy” are my two favorites. His cover of Sinatra’s “That’s Life” is great too. This band stayed together for the Skyscraper album before they went their separate ways. “Two Fools a Minute” is my favorite they did, but “Hina” melts me.

DLR assembled an all star band: Steve Vai-guitar, Billy Sheehan-Bass and Gregg Bissonette-drums. Some of the very best players. I have to give Gregg some appreciation...he's like a chameleon or jack of all trades on the drums...he can play every style: rock, jazz, funk, big band, african, country etc. He's the most versatile of the guys. The other guys are monsters as well

This was David's vision of rock, and he hit it out of the ballpark. It has a much cleaner sound than the the Van Halen recordings. He never intended to leave Van Halen, but, Eddie wanted to record, and David was having fun being a rock star. Besides, Eddie wanted to stretch out and become an "artiste", and Diamond Dave wasn't having it anymore.

nah, you obviuosly dont know much about Van Halen history,..
1984, 5150 OU812 F.UC.K. , Balance are all much cleaner than anything Roth ever did solo .
and Roth went solo in 1985 with "crazy from the heat" , and THEN they kicked him out.
that is why Van Halen Had 4 NUMBER ONE ALBUMS IN A ROW after Roth leftt....LOOLLOLOLOL Roth didnt have any platinum albums afteer 1988,
meanwhile , Van Halen Dominated the charts with FOUR NUMBER ONE ALBUMS
      5150 (6x platinum) OU812 (4X Platinum) F.U.C.K ( 3X platinum) and
Balance (3X platinum) Van Halen filled Stadiums in the 90's , while Dave played small theaters to support his albums which sold about 50k in the 90s
lolol Van Halen won THE GRAMMY for best album in 1992 F.U.C.K. , While Roth struggled to fill seats . LOLOL His 1991 tour turned into a financial failure, with low attendance and one-third of the shows cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Setlists were shortened and songs from the current album dropped as the US tour went on...

His band: Steve Vai-guitar, Billy Sheehan-bass, Gregg Bissonette-Drums. All top-notch musicians. You should see the video with live clips of this song. It will blow your mind. They were a spectacle to see live in concert.

People thought Dave would falter after he left Van Halen but what'd he go do, he puts a band together that included Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan and Greg Bissonette. Amazing! Live they were phenomenal.
Please please please react to the actual video!

Dave always had really fun videos. Many of the same characters appear in them. It makes a little more sense if you watch them in order of his initial solo releases….California Girls; Just a Gigolo/I ain’t got nobody; Yankee Rose; That’s Life

Freaking Awesome Album! If I remember correctly, the song is about the Statue of Liberty. If you want to delve into another Van Halen related new artist, I recommend Eddie Van Halen (and Valerie Bertinelli)'s son Wolfgang Van Halen! Wolfgang played as a bassist in later Van Halen concerts and their last album. His solo albums are under the name Mammoth WVH. (the name is in honor of his Dad.) Sounds like a band, but he plays EVERYTHING on both albums. And there is not a bad song on either album! I recommend starting off with "Don't back down, Another Celebration at the end of the World, or Horribly Right.") In a great video and song that is NOT typical of his sound, he does a very touching tribute to his father called "Distance." You have to do the official video for that one. He mixes in home footage of him with his parents.

Who all remembers this concert...beside me I mean? BTW, in case you didn't look it up that guitar is Stevie Vai!! Saw this Eat 'Em and Smile tour (September 25, 1986), and Van Halen's 5150 tour, (May 13, 1986... Eddie Live), in Pittsburgh at the old Civic Arena!! Dave even had them open the roof! This and Dave's next Skyscraper tour, (July 17, 1988), where he Surfed above the crowd on a giant surf board! Dave was a showman!!

Only sad that I didn't get the "Gimme a bottle of anything. And a glazed doughnut. To go....". Please watch "Crossroads" on you movie channel to see more of the guitarist, Steve Vai. Also, I still have this on a Madonna cassette. I worked at a music store when this came out and a woman came in completely IRATE! She wanted to return a Madonna cassette. It was completely marked and packaged as Madonna, but it was "Eat "Em and Smile" on the tape. And it was an obvious manufacturing error because the tape had the tones, CBS I think, used to put at the beginning of the recording. She was pissed when I laughed but I bought it from her.

All of this band was so talented. Steve Vai is one of the best guitar players in the world. You really should check out his song “teeth of the hydra”. He also made a great album with Whitesnake too. You would crap your pants if you saw that music video. In Teeth of the Hydra, he plays a guitar with multiple heads. Something i guarantee you’ve never seen! His one big hit is called the audience is listening. The bass player that you see in this band is Billy Sheehan. He’s the same guy who plays for the band Mr. big. One of the best bass players in the world. Check out their song green tinted 60s mind. You watched a few of their videos and really enjoyed what you saw. I think you would like this one too.
