Milkshakes! The good old reliable frozen drinkable treat, popular across the world but particularly so in America, where they were invented. So, after getting our hands on a selection of American-style milkshakes, we simply had to sit our resident Irish People down to see what they thought.

If your shake is thin, then blame it on the person who made it.

💯%. Also, the straw for thick shakes is almost like 1/4" pipe. 😂
Exactly right it should be so thick it almost caves your forehead trying to drinking
@@aaronlopez492 yeah they're using smoothie straws or even I think it's Boba straws for milkshakes you got to have a normal sized straw not a smoothie or Boba straw
@@deannacauley166 And depending on the temperature I can just imagine the brain freeze you'd have 🤯.
Graeme singing milkshake by kelis was not a thing I knew I needed in my life...excuse me while I listen to that on repeat🤣😂
He knows his Wu Tang, too! He’s sensational 😍
"La la, la la la...the boys are waiting...." 😁
He's so much fun, he never disappoints!
Best start to a try video in a while
Same.
As an American, I can assure you that I've never seen a kinder bueno milkshake, and also, that now I really, really want one.
You should try a twinkie milkshake.
As an American, I've never heard of or seen such a thing. I don't even know what a Kinder Bueno is by itself. Never heard of it.
I've seen it a few times but it's far from the most common
That being said yeah i can 100% believe we invented it
Yeah, I've never heard of a kinder bueno milkshake either. Nor have I heard of a chocolate brownie milkshake...smh. They really need to talk to some REAL Americans before making these videos...
considering we don't actually have kinder bueno throughout the US (only came here in 2019, i think) i would say that's not...an american style milkshake lmao
I was going to say they were banned her until fairly recently. Common American milk shakes would be vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and malted versions of those. And then of course we'd have peanut butter or chocolate peanut butter and now a days salted caramel.
@@7thsygnwhen were kinder bueno ever banned? Kinder surprise were because they had a toy in them, but not bueno
@@7thsygn Mint chocolate chip too
We've had Kinder Bueno since I was in elementary school. Maybe I just live in a weird location but we've had them since the aughts out here in Boston
@@7thsygnKinder Bueno was never banned in this country Kinder surprise (Kinder Eggs) were at one point. But never kinder Bueno.
They looked a bit too thin. Milkshakes should be thick and creamy. Little hard to suck up through the straw.
My guilty secret is that I enjoy thinner milkshakes more than thick ones
I agree we should see some blue faces from trying to get the shake up the straw.
@kendrasmith136 oh course to each their own, personally I like them thicker. But I can fully appreciate thinner ones, I mean if I must 😂😂 enjoy cheers x
A little vodka and Kahlua would take all those chocolatey ones up to another level.
They look like smoothies. Shakes are much thicker !
A proper milkshake, the straw should stand up in the middle by itself.
Yup-and you should be risking a collapsed lung, trying to suck the milkshake up through the straw!
@@margaretmorey3154 If your asthma isn't triggered by trying to drink your shake, you don't have a good shake!
I concur
Facts!
Absolutely! I was just about to type that! Our Milshakes are just a small notch below soft serve ice cream. They also have a lot of flavor.
My parents owned an A&W in the 1960s. You can make anything into a milkshake.
We grew up down the street from a A&W in Berkley Michigan. From what I heard it is still there Wolverine Michigan.
We'd mix anything with vanilla ice cream...orange crush, coke, even kool-aid
A&W had the best root beer on the planet back then. We had one in our little town and the girls were all on roller skates when they brought your orders out. Those were the days, my friend.
My hometown of Joliet, IL still as an A&W stand! Not a drive-in, though.
I loved the root beer floats from there.
Graeme's singing at the beginning was just what I needed today.
Milkshakes are good, but malt powder really elevates the experience. A chocolate milkshake and a chocolate malted are very different things.
Dad says, "You tell'em, David!!!!"
Goodrich oreo Malt 🤤
Yes, a thousand times yes!!
I’m 66 YO, and I’m not sure if I’ve ever HAD a Malted milkshake…
Yes! At age 75, I remember when most all local drive-in dining joints served Malts. But milkshakes were cheaper & easier to make.....and real malted milk Malts slowly faded away. Braums shops in Oklahoma are one of the few area businesses that still make a killer Malt.....make mine strawberry please!
I think that they should try Dairy Queen blizzards the next time they're in the US.
I always thought DQ was just a Canadian thing?
@@sophiophile It originated in the states
@@sophiophile Oh, no... We have them everywhere in the US!
But they're full of air! Baskin & Robbins. Pick any flavor they make!
@@zippymacadoo6336 I still like blizzards better. 😊(Also, I haven't seen a Baskin Robbins in my area for a really long time.)
Wait until they find out America actually has a chocolate cake milkshake - they throw in a slice of chocolate cake, frosting and all. 😂
What place has that? I’ve never come across one of those, but I’d like to!
And birthday cake.
I so agree, for autumn you can find shakes with a huge pumpkin pie slice at local ice cream shops. So thick and creamy. Please do shakes with cake slices. They will love it!
Cake in a milkshake. Yummy, but... for me that equals two days in the bathroom. Sigh.
@@danduntz2539Portillo’s restaurant chain based in Chicago and expanding.
There was a Soda/Milkshake shop in the town I grew up in where when you ordered a strawberry milkshake, it wasn't strawberry flavored! They blended ACTUAL fresh strawberrries into the shake!
Now that’s the proper way to make any fruit milkshake. 😋
I bought strawberries today lol...now I need milk and ice cream
I knew a place about 7 years ago that made a blueberry milkshake with actual blended blueberries. Delish!
You say that you like it's rare. Sonic does that. Only people who like McDonald's think a *strawberry* flavored anything is standard.
I use frozen strawberries. It really makes a difference!
Graeme and Gráinne are a fabulous pairing. I've never seen Gráinne get so spun on sugar before though! Lol
John just killing it with the guesses.
I love adding graham cracker crumbs (I bet a digestive would work) to strawberry milkshakes also peanut butter milkshake with brownie bites or brownie crumbs
A Little Debbie Nutty Bar (or 2) in a strawberry shake is pretty yumcious too
The graham cracker mix-in is why the strawberry cheesecake flavor is my favorite Ben&Jerrys variety.
Nice line up today !!! Good to see Sharpson back!!
Lol.... Your milkshake is bringing all the girls to the yard. Great singing 😉😘
The frozen custard shakes from Culver's are what i get most often, usually the vanilla custard with marshmallow cream and brownie chunks.
It would be fun to see them drink boozy milkshakes. Or also have them try soda floats!😊😊
Bourbon milkshakes! So good and works well with a lot of flavors of ice cream.
Kahlua in milkshakes! My mom used to pour Kahlua on our vanilla ice cream as kids... we thought we were being treated as adults, but it turns out her plan was to knock us out when we were too hyper to sleep. 😂
Kalua milkshake! Yeah!
@@ambsquared yes, a maple bacon bourbon shake FTW
I like rum chata in my shakes. Or strawberry Bailey's.
I'm cheering, we LOVE Grainne!!! And Nicole and Paddy and John and Thomas and Graeme!!!
Sorry if I misspelled anybody's name!!!
We LOVE ALL our Irish brethren...
If Paddy likes the brownie milkshake, you should get him the Portillo's Chocolate Cake Milkshake! It's from a restaurant chain (Portillo's) here in Chicago.
Those are the bomb.
I'm about 30-40 northwest of Chicago. I grew up in the Arlington Heights Portillo's
FLUFFY ! ! !
That needs to be on the Try bucket list!
If Paddy makes his way to Chicago, I’ll treat him to a chocolate cake shake!
Glad to see John Sharpson again!!!!
There's a ice cream parlor here that makes several different types of cheesecake milkshakes.
Fresh Texas peach milkshake- only available in the summer - gotta try it
One of these days I'll travel to Ireland and cook good traditional food for you guys to react to
I'll go with you.
I’d like to do a barbecue cook off contest in Ireland and have the people there be the judges. Just not sure how to get my smoker there.
@@oldnumber5866 Take some graham crackers with you so they can try some _real_ s'mores.
I honestly wish they would hire someone from the US to make the create recipes for their videos
@@oldnumber5866 I'd like to show them how to make a smoker from metal drums. Then do a cookout with them.
We'll call it the "Let's set the record straight" episode.
Here in Chicago, we have a local chain called "Portillo's". The have a chocolate cake shake.
Chocolate milk shake with an entire slice of chocolate cake blended into the shake.
A local area favorite.
My goodness it's great to see John again! I'm also very happy to see Nicole in videos again! Graeme & Grainne were awesome! Grainne with her hoodie covering her head may have been having a bit of a brain freeze, that's what usually happens to me when I drink a shake too fast. I had one a couple of nights ago and it was a coffee shake, it was awesome. Too bad they didn't make one of them for the Tryers.
I’m American, and I’ve had a fair amount of milkshakes in my life. I had never even heard of a kinder bueno.
Kinder Buenos aren't really American. I think they're Swiss or something.
Wayback Burger has them.
@@LAM-p6g Eyetalian. I had to look it up. I was nervous there for a minute because my Mexican nickname is "Güerito," which means something like "German Boy," and "kinder" means "children" in German and "bueno" means "good" in Spanish, so I thought I might be slipping, but no, Kinder Bueno is an Italian cookie. No wonder I'd never heard of it before.
It's an awful chocolate.
@@LAM-p6g Kinder Beunos are made in the US.
Glad 2 See Nicole Back... *Missed Her*
There’s a string of diners I remember from living in Portland, Oregon, called Shari’s. There’s a big case at the front with a huge selection of different pies. It’s one of their specialties. But several years ago they got the idea to make a pie shake. It’s a milkshake that they add a slice of pie to before they blend it. Maybe lots of place do this; I don’t know. But this is the only place I’ve seen a pie shake. It’s amazing because there are all kinds of flavors you wouldn’t think of and you also get flaky little bits of pie crust all through it.
An apple pie milkshake sounds good.
Y'all got the most basic of milkshakes. Now salted caramel or cafe mocha or a chocolate mint shake, that's what I'm talking about 😋
No caramel or chocolate drizzle inside the glass, either!
Gotta try the mint, and they should try some malts while they're at it.
Coffee with marshmalllows
I've NEVER seen the tryers happier than in this one. Nicole is delightful!!!
Nothing beats a well-made butterscotch milkshake!! 🥛
I seriously love Graeme and the energy he brings to the shoots. He has opened up and become so natural and expressive of his seemingly fun self in the shoots, and he brings out the best in whomever he is paired with. And his ewnergy is clealy contaignous since I don't know if I've ever seen Grainne so loose in a shoot :). Always a joy.
I think the custard cream milkshake is a fantastic idea. I also agree that Oreos are just ok. I do like the Golden ones though.
Great to see John!
Our shakes are thicker. He must have made them thinner for you.
They could have been made them earlier and some of them looks like they started to melt, before they started to film the video.
You just can't not like Graeme! He is absolutely adorable.
😂😂😂❤❤❤loved the intro and iconic cast as always!!! Thank you for the review and entertainment! Icons!!!
From a canadian subscriber ❤
Paddy in the cardigan looks very 50’s malt shop era. Love💚
Peanut butter milkshake happens to be one of my favorites. I also love a malt!
Lol I think the sugar was hitting _particularly_ hard for Grainne...
Basic milkshake is either vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. I'm kind of bummed you didn't have the salted caramel milkshake. Those are awesome! Maybe next time, you can do a milkshake vs malted milkshake. Vanilla malt is very good.
I want John to know that we do have custard shakes out here in the states, and they’re freaking delicious! We also have soft serve frozen custard that you eat like frozen yogurt and it’s also amazing! Is custard a big thing in Ireland? If so, you guys should do “Irish people try custards from around the world” and check out some of the cool twists on custard other cultures have!

Best intro ever! 🎵 my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…. Something…. Something…. Is better than yours! 🎶 😂
I spent at least 2 years (well, summers) slinging ice cream at a takeout place at one point. I used to love making shakes the most b/c of the possibilities. It was basically 5-7 scoops of ice cream (depending on the size & type of ice cream used) along with about 2/3 cup of whole milk, about 3 tablespoons of flavored syrup (we had vanilla, strawberry & chocolate, as well as unflavored simple syrup) then 3 minutes on the blender. There were recipes for specific, frequently-ordered ones, but I used to like making up my own.
"Creamsicle" or "Super Split" - 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 3 scoops of orange sherbet, use orange juice instead of milk, and flavor with vanilla syrup
Caramel Nut - 3 scoops of butter crunch ice cream, 2 scoops of vanilla almond fudge, milk, drizzle in hot caramel (from the sundae station) during blending.
They should try frozen custards next. I love a good concrete.
It was so great seeing John again. This was a fun one!
Now that Paddy knows that chocolate brownie milkshakes exist, his life has changed! Cheers....
I'm a flight attendant and I've had milkshakes all over the world and the absolute best vanilla milkshake I've ever had, and I'm 52, is my state's capital Farmshow Arena! Just incredible!
3:50 BRO!! I just saw that episode yesterday.
His show got cancelled so Lisa and Bart contact Krustys famous friends to do a television special honoring him.
He said that line in the episode.
It's hardly a proper TRY episode without a Simpsons reference! Dermot and obviously Sharpy are especially wise in the lore and ways of Springfield. I feel embiggened by their noble spirit.
There was a fancy diner just down the road from my college dorm that I made my parents take me to when they visited (couldn’t afford it on my own dime, that was for sure). They had the BEST milkshakes that they would make in those tall steel cups, and they would fill up the tall glass and also bring the steel cup with the leftover shake both to your table. You got every drop of that overflowing steel cup. Yummmmm! Strawberry is always my favorite, extra thick and with chunks of real strawberries jamming up the straw.
Man I love milk shacks specially mint or almond
Good to see John Sharperson back in the Fold!
The reason we have such a variety is so that everyone can have their favorite.
The illusion of freedom is variety.
I’ve been to ice cream places where when you finally read through all the different flavors of milkshakes you’ve forgotten the ones on the list. Frank’s Diner in downtown Spokane WA makes a milkshake that looks like the ones you see in the movies.
Paddy if you think the brownie shake was amazing I'm sure your mind will be blown when you find out that there's a *Cake Shake* . I've never been but i know of a place in Chicago called Portillo and it's famous for it cake shake where they literal out a whole slice of chocolate cake into the milkshake.
It's a delicious chocolate cake huge slice with actually a great ice cream. Have one about once a month. Decadent
Big John Sharpson great to see!!!
I wish when they say something is "American-style" it would actually be American-style. American shakes are not thin and I'm willing to bet 99% of America has never had a kinder bueno milk shake. Still it's always fun to watch them try anything.
Great to see John back, it's been a while. Everyone is great though. This is really making me want a milkshake right now.
The North Carolina-based restaurant chain Cook Out has to include a spoon with their shakes. They're so thick the spoon stands straight up. None of this straw leaning against the side of the glass shenanigans.
You can drive an hour and their shake still won't have melted.
@@donnajohnson1531 Absolutely true. And with 35 flavor choices, impossible to beat.
Omg stellar Graeme!!! I liked immediately just because of your singing my friend! Cheers ❤✌️
Thomas is the first person I've ever seen to make John look small.
I'm in the USA and I had never heard of Kinder Bueno. It appears that Kinder Bueno was only introduced to the US in 2019. Milkshakes are good but I like mixing ice cream with either coffee or stout beer.
Custard crème shake sounds really good
They really are. Fast food Culver's(in the Midwest states) makes great custard shakes.
@@nikle2550 Beat me to it. I was just about to say this. The frozen custard at Culver’s is delicious.
As an American, I have never seen a Kinder Bueno or Brownie milkshake... BUT blending candy or candy bars into a milkshake IS very much something we do here so I assume it's happened somewhere as I HAVE had a Baklava Milkshake AND several cupshakes (that's a milkshake with a cupcake blended into it - frosting and all) at a couple of local shops here.
Ironically, one of my Favs is a Chocolate Shake with Bailey's.
Alcohol milkshakes, there's a thing to try! Drop some bourbon or rum in there...
I'm always happy when they do ice cream related products!!!
The hard thing about 'American' milkshakes is that every place has their own way of doing it. Some are mind blowing and some are just meh. There is no ONE American style milkshake. The other problem is you get milkshakes that were made there in Ireland and called "American style" but they really aren't.
While I agree on the no specific "American" milkshakes, I would say that typically a diner has a decent representation on the "classic American", specifically when they offer malted versions. However, one could definitely argue that many ice cream parlors have some of the best, since their focus is main ingredient. My preference, however, is those available at Stewarts Shoppes (regional, I know), because they source ice cream locally, and you can make ANY flavor into a milkshake
We have Ted Drew's here in St. Louis- they have frozen custard shades that are so thick. They flip up side down to prove that they won't spill called concretes!! They mix tons of stuff together and make other ice creamy stuff like sundae and cones
Peanut butter, milk shakes are the best!
PB + chocolate, too!
@@IceMetalPunk hell yeah
Here in Wisconsin we have Culvers. Home of the Butter burger and concrete mixers. Frozen custard with a variety of mixes. Personal fave is chocolate custard with snickers bits.
As an American, I'm wondering how a Kinder Bueno milkshake is considered American? Not only have I never had one, I have never even heard of one until now! What is Kinder Bueno? Also, if John wants a custard cream milkshake, he needs to come to the USA and try our frozen custard! We already have it and it's amazing!!!!
Kinder Buenos is a chocolate candy; it does exist in the States, though it's not very popular. And custard creams are a type of cookie, not just literal "creamy custard" 😂
Right I've never heard of one as a shake either and I frequently go back and forth from home in NY to Ohio and up and down the east coast... Never heard of that one
There's a custard place here in Chicago. They take a slice of apple pie and blend it with the frozen custard, its so delicious 😅
Where's the durian milkshake?
John got all of these!!! He's batting a thousand in this one for sure!
These are all great shakes! Not a bad one in the bunch here.
And alas.... RIP poor Nicole. We hardly knew ye. The world will/would be a darker place now.
And I hope that Paddy can still have a good time at the sock hop though.
r.i.p. Nicole
Snorkling Grainne made me laugh and further cute hoody-ness kept me smiling.
Good pairings and much fun to finish a funky week - thanks everyone!
(Repost - evidently got vapourised earlier for some reason)
But, but, but... We DO love Grainne...
John, Good to see you back!!!
Looks like Edwina is taking good care of you.
American milkshakes. . . I thought milkshake flavors were mostly universal unless you're talking about specific flavors from specific countries such as a Durian flavor matcha flavor excetera excetera
Americans have preferred flavors too. There's a whole thing about our fondness for fruit-flavored candy, particularly citrus and apples. We're basically the only place that eats pecans or even remembers what they are, and a lot of other places don't like mint because they aren't used to it being in things that aren't toothpaste.
Heath or Snickers Blizzard from Dairy Queen, AMAZING!
I have never seen a milkshake that watery. Usually they are so thick you can't get sip it through the straw until it melts.
Good to see that Paddy knows his " Words"!
I’m American and I’ve never heard of a kinder bueno. I’m guessing the base milkshakes are American “style”. Lol
I had never heard of a kinder Bueno till I started watching Canadian, Europe, and Australian youtubers
I’ve seen them in grocery stores but have no indication they are popular.
I’ve heard of them and we have them but they were banned for awhile cause the toy was in the chocolate and it was a chocking hazard. Now they package it different. I’ve seen them at grocery stores and Walmart
@@mellycook That's Kinder Surprise you're thinking of (now called Kinder Joy); Kinder Buenos don't have toys and weren't banned.
@@IceMetalPunk ok ty
That opening clip was everything!😂😂😂😂😂
Paddy looking like hes in the 50s at a diner😊
They looked like they were having a lot of fun, and these were some really good pairings. Strawberry is my absolute favorite but I also love a good banana milkshake. Especially with real vanilla wafer bits. Yum.
You should have given them the little known durian milkshake.😂
They will have to worry about that should they ever try Thai milkshake flavors. Pretty safe from durian in the US. Or so I thought, guess if in Hawaii -the durian growers of America-would probably love to serve them up a fresh durian milkshake, unusual though in the continental US.
I have some durian ice cream bars in the freezer and I'm not even Asian!
Yes please ... more vids with Nicole !.
Look at Nicole sounding all intelligent and 'sophisticated' lol. "Viscosity". Cheers to ya.
And we in America 🇺🇸 love you! Peach milkshake is my favorite with tiny bits of fresh peach. Next is chocolate cookies and cream. And I agree, it has to be thick where you could eat it with a spoon.
Chocolate & Strawberry should have been one.
Gotta confess that one of my favorites is a fresh banana malt. Simply the best.
Way to thin. Need to be thick and creamy
So one of my favorites is the chocolate almond amore. Ice cream and shots of kahula, bailey's and amaretto with a drizzle of chocolate syrup on the walls of the glass
Someone needs to make them McDonald’s Shamrock Shake!😋🍀
Love Nicole and Paddy. ❤
I don't think these are "American" milkshakes because nobody had a diabetic coma during filming.
_I_ just about did, and I was just watching.
Order milkshake straws, we have them in our stores. They are bigger around to pick up the bits. And ALWAYS have milkshakes eith a spoon! We serve them with both here. But it'll change the experience
