Jaw tooth - I was out there that morning too - I'm down in lairmer, PA (Irwin, PA Turnpike Exit) the road I was on that train passed 3Feet away from me.
i love seeing people come out to see the trains. Especially when you see a father with his son. In this ever changing world some things never change LOVE OF TRAINS!
Maybe I am getting sentimental in my older age I miss the days of the true freight train, box cars, tankers, covered hoppers, gondolas, refrigerated cars (the old style), maybe a stock car or three, a long lash up of F units A and B and of course the CABOOSE!! Thanks for the videos my friend!
Yeah I agree. Never got to see long lash ups of A-B units I remember GP 35's and definitely remember wide vision cabooses or cabeese on the IC, BN, UP on the CNW and the bay windows on the CNW and those side door offset coupala cabooses/ cabeese on the IC. Have a great day everyone.
What great catches! For those few of you as old as me; I had dinner with Pearl Bailey and her husband Louie Bellson on the Desert Wind/California Zephyr from Chicago to Las Vegas. They had a private car on the back. She was afraid to fly.
Jaw Tooth Not in their private car. It only had a warming kitchen, so they ate in the regular dining car with me. I was alone at a 4 top, so they joined me.
This is mainly a freight line. So the freight company is going to want to have their deliveries on time to make money, so put the trains close together and have them go faster
Excellent catches and awesome video ! It was great to see the private cars on the end of the Amtrak train then to catch the black horse’s mane ( another specialty unit) right after ! I think here in the east we have some very long trains, the intermodal trains are probably the longest. The railroads make more money putting two trains together with one set of crew. I enjoyed watching this video, thanks for sharing. Be careful and stay safe :-))
The 3 private railcars on the back were Salisbury Beach, Colonial Crafts, and Lambert's Point. I'm good friends with the owners of those cars and it's nice to see them finally back out after awhile of sitting in Philadelphia.
Wow, great catches Brian! 100K! You are almost there brother! I was talking to a female UA-camr friend of mine from The Netherlands congratulating on her achievement of the Silver Play Button award. She said it was quite heavy, so I asked what it is made of. Turns out that it is made of several metals including titanium and silver. We will all be watching for when the day comes. It won't be long now! Stay safe! Cheers, Danny
I saw those passenger cars parked in Philadelphia at 30th street station a week before this video was filmed. Cool to see them a week later in live action! Keep up the good work Jaw Tooth!
2 nice catches, JT! Like the paint scheme on the 2nd NS unit @ 2:57. Things are getting more hectic!! The sheer volume of freight needed by these Class 1 RR to stay profitable is astounding. You mentioned a derail here with overturned hoppers. Looks like we're getting to the point where they don't even have time to clean up the site anymore! Just push the junk to the curb and hurry, hurry!! Gotta keep going or face more fiscal problems, lol
I saw the derailed covered hoppers from a bridge on a four lane highway that goes over the tracks. They were laying on their sides without the trucks. I was going to try to figure out a good way to film them but never did. They have been laying there for weeks.
Wow, long train. The heavy set gentleman with the red bag over his camera seemed annoyed that you got him in your viewfinder. I guess he didn't know who was filming him...The Great Jaw Tooth. He should have been honored. LOL.
Smitty SF-3751 See you were kept busy, looked like you were working up a sweet, sorry that is rain. One giant evaporated cooler, loved the private passenger cars, do not see many of those today. Keep up the great work.
Another you tube catch ! Amtrack moving cars-a very rare sight these days-and on a fast stretch of line there son ! The de railer was a very interesting find -plus you got me the weatherd sleepers I wanted to see 👍Nice video Jawtooth Regards
Hi Mr.Jawtooth, That Amtrak was a nice one, i think the 2nd engine was the NS Flame thrower 2004 i really couldn't see it well enough, the last train that had the 2 DPU'S Was a long train, well they both were long trains which you have to love. Take care buddy, stay safe and healthy.
Nice catch. I live in a Missouri town. My house is just across the street from the UP Sedalia sub. Amtrak goes by here four times a day and occasionally is pulling private cars. Also NS and CSX have trackage rights through here also so see several f their trains. Also on occasion see KCS power and once in awhile Ferromex power. Very rarely see any BNSF units. Once in awhile a wind turban/
I used to live literally right along the North East Corridor in Bristol, Pennsylvania and would see Private Passenger Cars every now and then. They freaked me out for some reason, but don't ask me why.
Container trains are relatively light compares to a regular freight train, and even more so for a unit train like coal or grain. That’s why they can be longer than regular freight trains, unless the railroad has a length restriction on their trains. Loaded containers are between 20 to 25 tons. So two containers on a car would only be 40 to 50 tons. A regular 4 axle freight car can be loaded with up to 110 tons of freight, with a gross weight of 283, 000 lbs. Most unit trains are all loaded to the max gross weight.
They usually don't let a freight get that close to Amtrak on that stretch. The Amtrak is a local, meaning it makes stops at a lot of the towns it passes through.
Would have been real nice if it were possible to catch parallel action between amtrak and the freight. Also, I believe this is the NS mainline in Pennsylvania, so no short trains here :).
I already subscribed to Jaw Tooth! I think that there are others from the UK who have as well. That was a particularly good video and interesting to see passenger trains as well.
2 engines pulling the first stack train. I wonder what the load to empty ratio was? Last monster stack train I was wondering about the power, but there were 2 DPU's pushing. With regard to the piggy back's on the second stack train, I don't see them in my neck of the woods. BNSF Lampasas [TX] sub runs through the farm and I've yet to see any. Same goes for the UP in my travels around central and east Texas. Good stuff! I would like to have my own private car and just roll around on the rails.
Quite a few single-stacked container cars mixed in with the double-stacked ones. And I'm going to watch it again, so I can find out what that non ex-PRR private car was.
Carney’s crossing isn’t among my favorite places in the Altoona region, considering that Cassandra and Lilly are to the west with Cresson, the summit tunnels et al to the East.
I wanted to catch them coming into Altoona on the return trip but we stayed up so late the night before that I couldn't get enough energy to get checked out of the motel, see the train and not be sleepy. I was told those cars would be on the return trip and I wish I would have seen that, especially the stop in Altoona. Live Action!
WOW, I used to have a farm about 10-15 miles west of there... Small world! I used to take the Broadway Limited every spring break from Chicago Union Station to the Johnstown stop. Vandals have destroyed that beautiful station in Johnstown, smh. I miss those PRR, Penn Central, ConRail and Amtrak days!! Are the low volume of private cars on Amtrak due to the cost per mile or some other new regulation(s)? Just curious! Best regards to you and the whole family! Stay well!
Hey JT,great video. No drone shot of the trains? The intermodal seemed to be long for not having a DPU I guess not as heavy as regular freight cars, about 40 tons of cargo in each . Thanks for posting.
Hi Jaw Tooth. I have a few questions. 1. Is Amtrak the only company that runs passenger services in the USA (not including preserved railways), 2. do you know how old those red coaches were at the back if the Amtrak train? The last one looked to be particularly vintage, with the platform at the very end of the train. 3. I presume that passengers are not able to stand on that platform when the train is moving at speed.
Yeah those people have a contract with Amtrak still and since it's not on a huge long distance, it's easier to move them, also, NS must've been waiting for Amtrak to clear the line so they could go, they just are following a signal block behind them, thus why they're moving so slow
I have never seen the Pennsylvanian with two locomotives. Based on the date of filming, it looks like you missed me by a week. I was at the Curve on June 20th.
Nice video, JT. I like the location. Any interest in shooting at the Curve? Ever see the movie “Unstoppable”? All of the locations are in PA and OH. Might be a fun project to seek out some of those locations and shoot some video. You and Millennium Force!
Jaw Tooth, did you get any video of the derailment site itself? Also, regarding private passenger car moves, you featured one on a siding in some private industrial area, did that car ever get moved as planned or did COVID-19 delay things? Awesome videos of private cars on Amtrak, keep 'em coming! :D

Those are Norfolk southern passenger cars. Probably a group of executives

I love private railcars. I've been fortunate enough to ride in a few of them.
What great catches!
For those few of you as old as me;
I had dinner with Pearl Bailey and her husband Louie Bellson on the Desert Wind/California Zephyr from Chicago to Las Vegas.
They had a private car on the back. She was afraid to fly.
Awesome and you got to ride in it!
Jaw Tooth Not in their private car. It only had a warming kitchen, so they ate in the regular dining car with me. I was alone at a 4 top, so they joined me.
@@RailfanNetwork That's neat, getting to dine with Pearly Mae. How long ago was this, and did you get her autograph?
Kevin Miller Thank you! I do have both autographs!
I need those seats at the end of the private car! It is cool how close those first two trains were - keep the monitoring people on their toes!
My word Norfolk Southern dont hang about considering the rake its hauling never ceases to amaze me the freight traffic on American railways
Nice video. A fast passenger train with a heavy freight running fast one block behind is a reminder of the great days.
This is mainly a freight line. So the freight company is going to want to have their deliveries on time to make money, so put the trains close together and have them go faster
The double stack sounded like it he was notched up pretty far
This move looks so awesome! Thanks JT ❤️
Thanks!

Beautiful capture of the train! I’m happy to see that you’re still posting videos! I always enjoy them!
Altoona what nice place ,bringing back great old times when my grandpa was alive. I used go with him to the horseshoe curve.
I will post a video from Horseshoe Curve on Tuesday
Greetings from Toronto my friend
lovely Pennsylvania RR private coach. 92 wells on the first freight, 181 on the second
Great video, Jaw Tooth! Pretty amazing catch of the Amtrak with the private cars. How cool is that!

another beauty from JT .. PRIVATE CARS COOL!!!!!!
Great job Jaw Tooth! I was planning to go catch that same train too! Keep up the great work.
Cool, thanks!

Wow, that would be cool to live by the Corridor! We don't even have many passenger trains in Cincinnati. We get 3 round trip Amtraks a week
The train at 6:13 has a real nice horn.
Huh, wonder if they are working on a new 611 excursion. Because those passenger cars are always used when 611 is able to run on the mainline
Interesting to see things like the derailer. Thanks for that

I think it was in April but that second NS locomotive was special also it came through on a intermodal train and my dad missed it
nice work JT. those trains move pretty swift through there.
Good catch. Thanks, Jaw !
Thank you too!
Love watching👍😊👍
The horn on the Amtrak locomotive sounds close to a steam whistle. Nice catch.
I already subscribed to Jaw Tooth! I think that there are others from the UK who have as well. That was a particularly good video and interesting to see passenger trains as well.

Szép videó!😀 Nyomtam egy like!👍
You always seem to find the rain. Maybe you should come up here to Cleveland, We've been getting pretty dry these days.
I just hope it doesn't rain on the 17th to the 19th since I will be filming trains in Cass, West Virginia
Thats some awesome live action Jaw. That amtrak train was really moving . It looked like you could barely catch it on camera.
They are really fast on that line . I don't know what their hurry is. lol
3 trains for the price of one video, nice!😎
