nice tutorial. I would like to know what is the difference between the three types of slice. layer slice, user slice and layer based slice. thanks Tommy.
photoshop cc 2017 the slice tool is part of the 'crop' toolbar button, hold down the mouse on it to see the other options 'behind' crop (to answer several queries below)
Still not sure what saving as "All User Slices" means. Narrator/instructor said, ""That means all non-automatically created slices". Is he referring to the big slices on the sides?
what i hate is tht the first slice doesn't start with 1, and so it makes it confusing for making grid base posts, or a coordinated sequential post edit
I have been using photoshop since v2, never used the slice tool. Now that I no what it does, I can completely ignore it. I can't think of a single reason to use it. For a single 'slice', I can select and copy. Can't imagine cutting anything in to a zillion pieces. Maybe it made sense way back. I was hoping I could slice 'shapes', and then reconnect in different ways. That is the reason I was looking up what the slice tool does.
Great video! I do have a question though. I made a banner for a friends website. When I put the URL in the edit slice option box and save for web, the link will work but the image is blank when I download the HTML file. Could you tell me if I did something wrong? Thank you for your time and have a great day!
It sounds like the link is linking, but the file is not where the file is trying to "pull" it from. Make sure you upload the image as well as the HTML file so the HTML can call the image and display it. That's my best guess of what might be going wrong. Let me know!
How to deselect the very fist slice which cover the whole image? ctrl+h hide every other tools selection too so no to it. view>clear slice do not work for the very first slice. Any other way to get rid of it? Thanks
This might be a bit late but try going to Edit > Toolbar and you might the slice tool under "Extra Tools". Drag it to the "Toolbar" column under Crop tool group.
I try to save multiple sliced images, First image save in maximum (100%) quality then next some of images saved in medium (50%) quality and last image saved in 25% low quality.... do you have any idea about that?
when you're exporting, within the preview window you have to select all the slices, because the options on the right only pertain to the slices you have selected. i had this problem too, the first one exported as jpg and the rest were gifs....
You must be joking... This was one of the most direct and to the point video tutorials I have ever seen. In fact, I was going to make a comment pointing out exactly that. Most people talk slowly and repeat themselves and have verbal pauses, uhh's, umm's, etc., but this guy gets right to it and speaks swiftly without any repetition or stumbling.
I've been using Photoshop for 20 years and I'm about to use this tool for the 1st time. Thanks for the quick tutorial!
Great to hear!
Thank you. I've looked this up a few times but this was the most concise and easy to understand explanation of this tool. I'[m super grateful!
Good vid. But ya did not show how to separate the slices which is the Point of slices an image. Just saying..
Right.. all the of the videos show how to slice, yea then what.??????
then you select Export > save for web and then resize how much size you want and save ..it will split into the no of images sliced
you cool straight to the point and talk quickly I really like that!
Thanks! I've been looking for months on how to create precisely sized slices, this has helped immensely.
This was perfect: quick, clear and straightforward THANK YOU!!!!

Ah, the lovely days of table layout websites, when slicing up your design was almost everything you've had to do... I don't miss it at all!
+Mike Bruschke I'm right there with you, Mike!
This tut answered my question exactly about the exporting of all slices.

I have Photoshop 2017, and the Slice Tool is not located in the crop selection at all :( I can't find the tool what so ever anywhere in photoshop
I'm having the same problem!!
Try Window > Workspace > Graphic and Web
This might be a bit late but try going to Edit > Toolbar and you might the slice tool under "Extra Tools". Drag it to the "Toolbar" column under Crop tool group.
thanks a lot!!!
I had the same problem. I did Edit > Toolbar > Restore Defaults. I think I must have clicked on a different toolbar set by accident somehow.
Can I make layers from slices?

The save for web gives an error... Is there another way to do this in cc 2019

+melqadze_13 TV Thanks!!
:D
bro talk in 1.75
IT DIDNT SLICE.
slice lays out boundaries, export creates individual files based on those boundaries...
1st. - what is a slice. Why is the slice important in the first place...? Otherwise it’s a clueless pt..for NEWBIES
This is not helpful for saving each slice as an individual image. On to the next video...
Talk to much
Too much extra talk. To the point simple message would be better.
You must be joking... This was one of the most direct and to the point video tutorials I have ever seen. In fact, I was going to make a comment pointing out exactly that. Thanks man! Great job!
