The magic of Gary Clark is the way he can make you happy and sad at the same time. One of the great talents in music.
Most under rated band ever. Would love it if they could get back together to do a final album.
An absolute sin that they were never treated as superstars. Great music, great musicians and Gary Clark has such a wonderful voice. Would love to see them in concert.
What a fantastic find this is. Always loved Danny Wilson and will regret for the rest of my life never having seen them live. Simply one of the best Scottish bands ever and so sad that they were never recognised more fully for their very obvious talent.
Danny Wilson - one of the all-time great bands.
yep!
Thank you! This was a great find. Danny Wilson is one of my favorite bands ever...and 'Meet Danny Wilson' is a classic album that has been sinfully overlooked.
I loved this band and their beautiful music when I was in college. I just bought Meet Danny Wilson again and I love it even more now.
I would so love if they made another album. They were one of Scotland’s finest bands.
Rachel, they were one of any country's finest bands but I take your point.
Meet Danny Wilson And Be Bop Mop Top are full of wonderful songs. Two albums that rank with all the best records of the 80s.
I reckon one of my all time favourite songwriters and vocalists, Gary Clark is totally underrated in UK modern music. All the songs stand the test of time.
Keep on Freefloating
two great albums and the classic marys prayer.....one of the most underrated bands ever.Gary Clark is an amazing songwriter. Listen to his 10 short songs about love. Classic.
One of the finest things to be spawned in Dundee, Messrs Clark, Grimes and Clark in the shape of Danny Wilson. One my life long regrets is never having seen them live. Three massive talents in one band or as they admit, three men in one grave. One of the biggest ever losses to the British music industry. So sad but hey, reunions are very popular these days.
This guys Music is Among The best i Event Heard- and I have heard lots!
The opening song is so beautifully crafted and sung, and that’s just for starters, truly wonderful. Everyone on our planet should hear this
As i said on another video .Saw them at the Glasgow Pavillion 1990 . Absolutely amazing . IF they ever get back together again i'll definitely be there
The only song of his I ever knew was Mary’s Prayer. These songs really show how great his talent is. He can really sing and the band is really good.
Love the versin of Davy here, the harmonies make it much fuller than the recorded version. Fantastic band.
pure 24 carat, I was lucky enough to see Gary in the nineties at Manchester poly, to me he was Scotland's answer to Frank Sinatra! Bloody genius ♥
" I won't be here when you get home" is one of my favorite songs. I can't believe it's so underrated!
Meet is one of the greatest pop albums of the last 50 years. The melodies , arrangements and vocals are sublime. Sadly overlooked. Gary Clark is a great singer and songwriter.. I urge you to listen to it.
Affecting voice. He sells his stories so well and you couldn't help but buy the guy a drink if you heard him recounting them in a bar - 'here, drink up 'cause you speak for me, that guy over there and, probably, every man'.
Ps.. beautiful concert, well done to all... magic
Danny wilson the band are fantastic, the lead singer,Gary Clark is absolutely brilliant.if you get the chance listen to his track,we sail on the stormy waters, absolutely fantastic,i would love for Gary Clark and Hue and Cry to get the gether and make some brilliant music.
What a combo that would be, if only
One of my favorite voice of all time. His sweet melody sensibility and phrasing are as close to perfection
The arrangement of this song on the LP is sick! (in a good way) lol Underrated so good!!
Oh how I would of loved to have been there for this one, truly one of the most under rated bands ever, thankful for youtube to re live gems of memories. Much love for Gary Clark, beautiful!
Band of my youth -music that touches the soul.
Sweet Jesus, what a treat! This stuff is just as vital today as back then-If someone told me this was a new band with a "retro" looking video, I'd believe it. Got to see DW in concert once, and it blew me away-this is a welcome souvenir of that evening. I now remember what it was that so got under my skin about this band: The unbridled joy and raw emotion that they exhibit. I thought so when I heard the discs, but the live show cemented it. Bravo Guys, Bravissimo!!
Found this whilst looking for their version of "Kooks"! Only saw them once, at The Town and Country London, like Celtic Soulboy, where all the live b-sides came from. I named my daughter Nancy, after the Gary Clark song. Thanks to the Dannys- I still tear up every time!!
mille grazie...from Sicilia!!! ...always DW's music in my life!
Thank you so much for posting this. I am in Heaven! Gary, Kit and Ged were a blessing to us music lovers.
Wow!!! All these years and still an Amazing band. You guys have it.., Class, Style, Heart, Voice, Everything!! Be still my heart . . ., Gary Clark . . ., You Take My Breath Away!! Please, come to New York to do a concert!! Say it..., New York, New York. . . ..
Just over 33,000 views is absolutely crimina l! This is so so good the beautiful voice of Gary Clark and the musicianship is top notch
Saw them live in Cork city in early 90's I was privileged
Im half way through this and realize it’s live!! Astonishingly unique.
Yeah, the best of 'rock-a-billy,' troubadours, for sure🤗
I have this on VHS tape. Haven't seen it since I moved to California. Thanks for sharing. Brought back some lovely memories of the music of Danny Wilson.
Excellent
Wow, I think I was at one of these gigs. really weird watching now all these years later, but man alive they were a great band, and I think that was the late great Michael Marra's brother sessioning with the band ! Fantastic.
Yes Chris is there .
Wow. Great to find this. Gary's vocal on opener 'I Won't Be Here' is just sublime, Billy Mackenzie meets Donald Fagen. A quality band with great songs.
thanks so much for posting this - they were as good a band as any band ever was - and Gary's voice is world class. Much missed, much loved, those songs still make me smile a lot and weep a little
Oh my, a live version of "Davy"! Such an amazing song.
I LOVE THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG!! LOVE YOU DANNI :*
wow. this is ace! Never saw it first time round but as I listen to DW on a regular basis even now in 2015 I thought I would stop by & see what was on You Tube. Loved the live show (I have the Sweet Danny Wilson/Three in a Bed Romp comp & always wondered where 'Don't really know who I am' originated from. Also loved the chats in between :)
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou... I thought I had seen everything Danny Wilson had to offer but this is a real treat... Gary in fine voice and the band as tight as ever... Ged especially on form... A great, great band and vastly underappreciated... I saw them at the Town and Country club in London after Bebop Moptop and they the best band I've ever seen... There was no-one anything like them at the time or since and the emotion and virtuosity was unique... Wonderful stuff!
Danny Wilson! awesome
Thank you so much for the upload! The sophisticated brilliance of Danny Wilson was criminally overlooked. "Mary's Prayer" may be the most perfect pop song ever recorded, and it is not even their best track. I guess I am glad more people don't know about and appreciate bands like this (along with Prefab Sprout and Deacon Blue). They sometimes seem like a soulful musical secret that is all mine.
This is fabulous!
It's my favourite band of all time. Gary's voice is iconic!
Absolutely beautiful. Please, please gig.
Man. Danny changed my life.
Love the music of Danny Wilson.Loved everything I have heard by them....and I have heard much The world needs more music from Danny Wilson. Shame they aren't still creating their unique type of pop music. They would still have much to offer.
This group takes me back in time, thank's lads.
Simply amazing!!!
Absolutely Cool.
Hi Guys, thanks for your company through my life, understood your lines and music, if you ever get to Japan, please drop by !!
Gary Clark and Paddy McAloon have the same musical souls...
Gary and paddy, omg, ledgends, mick!
An absolute delight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! excellent!!!
Aberdeen is one of the greatest songs ever written
Absolutely agree, underrated even by its writer! I asked Gary Clark the chords, he couldn't remember as ity was so long since he played it. :-)
@@Chrisamusic1 Are you still after them? I worked out a lot of their songs once. I could always revisit that one for a fellow fan... :-)
@@CS-xv4ug Yes please Chris!
@@Chrisamusic1 Haha ok! I'll fire up the piano this weekend if I get a few moments and jot them down 😎
@@Chrisamusic1 Off the top of my head I think you are looking at:
D/G, C/G, etc
F, G, Bb, F
F, G, Bb, Dm7
Bbmaj7, Am7
Bbmaj7, Am7
G, Am7, C, Em7
G, Am7, C
D/G, C/G part (as per intro)
I'll double-check the bridge part when I'm at a piano as I'm a little hazy on memory of those. Stay tuned! Hope those get you on your way? Unless it's the others you're waiting on (bridge)? I'm away with work currently, alas!
Fantastic! Love Danny Wilson.
still listening to this very rich full of chocolate and salt band. sensual soulful sweet sexy. THANKS for the music Danny Wilson
Great stuff.
Many thanks, great to find.
what an absolute gem! Lovely to see and hear this.
Ged Grimes is massive!
Saw them that year😉👍
So glad you posted this! Meet Danny Wilson, always one of my favorite albums. Would have loved to see DW live but no luck here in California.
Absolutely love these guys! Sad little attention is paid to the piano player who is killing the keys on Mary's Prayer and not even shown in their video. Who IS HE? Amazing player.
Keyboards was Derek Thompson , grandson of Lochee legend Napper Thompson. Was with Gary in Clark’s Commandos. Very modest talented player
I made such a big mistake when I was Mary's prayer.
wow.
Brilliant! When was this recorded? '88?
You too can be a Danny!
scottish sounds good - like the R
where was this?
Covering ABBA was THE most uncool thing to do Bach then😅
An absolute sin that they were never treated as superstars. Great music, great musicians and Gary Clark has such a wonderful voice. Would love to see them in concert.
